Abstract

Edema is a common physiological complaint experienced by pregnant women, particularly during the third trimester, which may affect maternal comfort and daily activities. Prenatal exercise is considered a safe, non-pharmacological intervention that can improve maternal circulation and reduce fluid retention. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the frequency of prenatal exercise and the incidence of edema in third trimester pregnant women in the working area of Benoa Public Health Center. A cross-sectional analytical design was employed, involving 30 pregnant women selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and physical examination to assess the presence of edema, while the frequency of prenatal exercise was categorized into regular (≥3 sessions per week) and irregular (<3 sessions per week). Descriptive statistics summarized participant characteristics, and the Chi-square test was used to evaluate the association between prenatal exercise frequency and edema, with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results indicated that 26.7% of women who exercised regularly experienced edema, compared to 66.7% of those who exercised irregularly. Statistical analysis confirmed a significant relationship between exercise frequency and edema occurrence (χ² = 5.33, p = 0.021). These findings suggest that consistent participation in prenatal exercise is associated with a lower incidence of edema among third trimester pregnant women. Integrating structured exercise programs into routine antenatal care is recommended to enhance maternal well-being, prevent pregnancy-related discomforts, and support overall health during late pregnancy.

Abstract

In addition to being programmatically successful in lowering TFR and slowing population growth rates, the Long-Term Contraceptive technique (MKJP) is an affordable technique of preventing conception. This study's objective was to examine variables associated with long-term contraceptive (MKJP) selection at the Gandasuli Community Health Center. The study design is cross-sectional and the research methodology is quantitative. The investigation was carried out in the workspace of the Gandasuli Community Health Center. 300 women of reproductive age made up the study's population, and a straightforward random selection procedure was used to choose 45 participants. A questionnaire was used to gather the data, which were then subjected to univariate and bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square statistical test. Age and MKJP choice did not correlate, according to the data (p- value = 0.09 > 0.05). The choice of MKJP was correlated with education (p-value = 0.003 < 0.05). The choice of MKJP was correlated with occupation (p-value = 0.003 < 0.05). The choice of MKJP and the husband's support are related, with a p value of 0.004 < 0.05. Parity and MKJP selection are related, with a p value of 0.003 < 0.05. Knowledge and MKJP selection are related, with a p-value of 0.003 < 0.05.

Abstract

The coverage of exclusive breastfeeding at the Sikan Community Health Center from 2018-2019 decreased from 50.8% to 28%. Lack of knowledge and the intensive promotion of formula milk are among the causes of the low exclusive breastfeeding rate. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between socioeconomic factors and the level of maternal knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding in the Tokorondo Community Health Center Work Area. This study used an analytical method with a cross-sectional approach. The population was 46 mothers with toddlers aged 6-12 months in the Sikan Community Health Center work area. The sample in this study was 36 people, the sampling technique was consecutive sampling. The results showed that exclusive breastfeeding was more common in mothers with low education (60%), unemployed mothers (23.5%), high income (50%), and well-informed (100%). Conclusion: There is a relationship between the level of knowledge and exclusive breastfeeding (p<0.001), while education (p=0.217), occupation (p=1.000), and income (p=0.436) have no relationship with exclusive breastfeeding. It is hoped that health workers can be a source of information about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for babies up to 6 months of age and after six months of age. After six months, it is continued with the provision of complementary foods while continuing to provide breast milk until the age of 2 years and there is support from the family, especially the husband, as an effort to increase the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Regular physical activity is known to play an important role in maintaining overall health, including improving immune system function and mental health. Lack of physical activity remains a public health issue, making it important to understand the impact of physical activity on the immune system and mental health. This study aimed to review the effect of regular physical activity on the immune system and mental health using a literature review method. The literature sources were obtained from publications within the last five years using databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect. The articles were then screened and selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, resulting in nine relevant articles for analysis. The selection results indicate that regular physical activity can increase the mobilization and activity of immune cells such as lymphocytes, neutrophils, and natural killer cells, and also modify the adaptive immune system through changes in T cells and B cells. In addition, physical activity also improves mental health through neurobiological mechanisms such as increased endorphin, dopamine, and serotonin levels, which can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, as well as improve sleep quality and psychological well-being. Therefore, regular physical activity has a positive effect on the immune system and mental health and can be used as a promotive and preventive strategy to maintain overall health.

Abstract

Students in the transition period are vulnerable to experiencing mental health problems and tend to self-diagnose due to easy access to information and low mental health literacy. This research aims to determine the relationship between mental health literacy and the tendency to make a diagnosis in students at the Faculty of Public Health, Nusa Cendana University, Kupang. This type of research is quantitative research with a correlational approach. Respondents in this study numbered 301 people using probability sampling techniques. Data collection techniques used the mental health literacy scale and self-diagnosis scale. Data analysis uses the product moment correlation test. The research results show that there is a significant negative relationship between mental health literacy and self-diagnosis (r = -0.846 < 0.05), which means that the higher the mental health literacy, the lower the tendency for self-diagnosis in students, and vice versa. In addition, mental health literacy contributed 71.6% to the tendency of self-diagnosis. It is hoped that students not only have a high level of mental health literacy but also quality, so that they realize that self-diagnosis is an inappropriate action and students are expected to take advantage of available professional mental health services.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the most common health problems among the elderly and has the potential to cause serious complications such as heart disease and stroke. Dietary patterns and lifestyle factors are known to play an important role in increasing blood pressure, particularly fat intake and sleep quality. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between fat intake and sleep quality with the incidence of hypertension among elderly individuals in the coastal area of Tuban District. This study used an analytical observational design with a case-control approach. The total number of respondents in this study was 136 elderly individuals, consisting of 68 cases (elderly with hypertension) and 68 controls (elderly without hypertension). Data on fat intake were obtained using a 24-hour food recall method, while sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Pearson Chi-Square test with a significance level of α ≤ 0.05. The results showed that there were significant relationships between fat intake (p = 0.000) and sleep quality (p = 0.000) with the incidence of hypertension among the elderly in the coastal area of Tuban District. Elderly individuals with high fat intake and poor sleep quality were more frequently found in the hypertension group compared to the non-hypertension group. In conclusion, fat intake and sleep quality are associated with the occurrence of hypertension among the elderly. Hypertension control efforts can be carried out through limiting fat intake and maintaining good sleep quality.
