Abstract

Kidney failure is a condition when the kidneys cannot function properly to filter or remove waste from the body. This study aimed to determine the solvents in syrup fever drugs, namely ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol, which are suspected of causing acute kidney failure in children. The method is to collect journals from various databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, NCBI, and others. The results of ethylene glycol (EG) and diethylene glycol (DEG) in fever syrup can affect damage the kidneys if their administration exceeds the threshold. The formation of oxalic acid metabolites from ethylene glycol can precipitate into calcium oxalate monohydrate crystals in the tubules’ lumen, which triggers kidney stones and acute kidney injury. In Diethylene Glycol, the formation of metabolites of 2-hydroxyethoxyacetic acid (HEAA) has. Toxic effects resulting from the buildup of HEAAs cause acidosis and kidney organ failure.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by increased blood glucose levels. Increased blood glucose levels are caused by impaired insulin secretion, insulin sensitivity, or both. The therapeutic target of the treatment of diabetes mellitus is controlled blood glucose levels, so that the treatment is carried out continuously and for a long time. The side effects of synthetic drugs in diabetes mellitus cause impaired kidney function, and also hypoglycemia. One alternative therapy that has fewer side effects and is safe is treatment with natural herbs. Clitoria Ternatea L. contains polar compounds such as anthocyanin flavonoids, which have antidiabetic activity. Fractionation is necessary to be able to separate compounds based on the level of polarity. This study aims to determine whether there is a hypoglycemic effect on the n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and aqueous fractions of the ethanol extract of butterfly pea flower in test animals induced by streptozotocin-nicotinamide. Wistar strain male rats were used. 30 rats were divided into 6 treatment groups consisting of normal, positive, and negative groups; the n-hexane fraction test preparation group; ethyl acetate fraction; and the water fraction group. The GOD-PAP method was used to measure blood glucose samples. The obtained blood glucose data were analyzed using the one-way ANOVA test. This study showed that the entire treatment group of the n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, and water fraction at a dose of 400mg/KgBW had antidiabetic activity in Streptozotocin-Nicotinamide-induced test animals with an average glucose level in the n-hexane fraction of 113.89 mg/dL, the fraction ethyl acetate of 109.72 mg/dL, and the water fraction of 135.41 mg/dL. Based on the analysis of the post-hoc LSD test on day 14, the n-hexane fraction group and the ethyl acetate group at a dose of 400 mg/KgBW did not have a significant difference with the positive control. Abstract

Stability test is one of the things that needs to be done on pharmaceutical preparations, stability tests need to be done before the product is produced by a manufacturer, whether production on an industrial scale or not on an industrial scale. The development of liquid preparations is currently very rapid, one of which is suspension. Suspension is a liquid preparation containing insoluble solid particles dispersed in the liquid phase. The stability of suspension preparations was evaluated by carrying out organoleptic tests, volume sedimentation, re-dispersion, viscosity density, particle size distribution, and pH measurements. The development of stability tests on suspension preparations from year to year does not show many different changes. In early 1992, only three non-specific test parameters were carried out: drug concentration, pH, and microbial growth. Meanwhile, for the difference in the 2017 journal, an acceleration stability test was carried out, which observed sedimentation volume, flow time, particle size, viscosity, and redispersibility. Parameter assays have become more specific and have been modified over the years to ensure the stability of pharmaceutical suspensions is thoroughly evaluated

Abstract

Triethanolamine is one of the many emulsifiers added to lotion preparations. Lotions that use triethanolamine tend to have good stability. However, the use of triethanolamine as an additive has a risk of causing irritation to the skin surface when used topically. Research on the use of betel leaf extract in topical products is known to have benefits as an antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. The purpose of this study was to determine the physical properties and irritant effects of betel leaf lotion using triethanolamine at a concentration of 2.5; 3 and 3.5%. The results showed that the lotion produced was homogeneous and had a thick liquid texture, spreadability was in the range of 5.37-5.83 cm, pH 7.17-7.4, adhesion 5.37-7.33 seconds and viscosity 2.312, 30 - 3,334.8 cP. The results of the stability test carried out using the cycling test method showed that the lotion preparation was stable during storage. The irritation test conducted proved that the triethanolamine used in the betel leaf extract lotion formulation did not show any irritation with a primary irritation index value of 0.0.

Abstract

Side effects or negative effects of antihypertensive drugs are often associated with the frequency of excessive urination and decreased sex drive such as erectile dysfunction. Erectile dysfunction is the inability of men to achieve and maintain an erection of the penis adequate to satisfy sexual intercourse. This study aimed to explain the relationship between the side effects of antihypertensive use and erectile dysfunction. The method used in writing this scientific paper is in the form of a literature study carried out by collecting relevant journals in the period of January to March 2023. The databases used are Google Scholar and PubMed. Based on 20 research journals from 1991 to 2023, it is known that antihypertensives that often cause side effects on erectile dysfunction are diuretics and beta-blockers, except nebivolol and clonidine by altering the sympathetic flow, affecting corporal smooth muscle contractions, and affecting androgen hormone levels. Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between the use of antihypertensive drugs and erectile dysfunction.

Abstract

Gummy candy is candy that is usually made from fruit juice or water and a gelling agent, has a clear, transparent appearance and has a chewy texture. The purpose of this study was to determine the formulation and compare the levels of gelatin as a gelling agent in the formation of a gummy candy chewy texture. The research method used was to conduct a literature study on several credible journals with criteria for journals in the last 10 years regarding the formulation of gummy candy with gelatin as the gelling agent. The results obtained are the use of gelatin as a gelling agent that can be combined with pectin and glycerin. The best concentration of the combination of gelatin and pectin is in the range of 15-20%, while the best concentration of the combination of gelatin and glycerin is in the range of 25-30%. So it can be concluded that the use of gelatin as a gelling agent and pectin as a chewiness enhancer requires a lower concentration compared to gelatin and glycerin to produce gummy candy which has the preferred level of elasticity.

Abstract

Eucalyptus globulus, a plant that produces essential oils by distilling its leaves, has been studied in the context of preventing comorbid diseases of Covid-19. Through literature searches on Google Scholar and Pubmed with the keywords "Eucalyptus Globulus Plants", "Covid-19 Comorbid Diseases", and "Covid-19", several related articles were reviewed. Gas chromatography analysis (GC-MS) was used to characterize the essential oil content extracted from E. globulus. Several studies have shown that Eucalyptus globulus has anti-diabetic properties, as evidenced by its better inhibition of carbohydrate metabolism enzymes than acarbose. Other studies have also shown significant improvement in managing diabetes complications and blood glucose control compared to the synthetic drug glibenclamide. Eucalyptus globulus also has the effect of inhibiting the growth of mycobacteria, including the Mycobacterium tuberculosis strain that causes tuberculosis. Based on this review, it can be concluded that Eucalyptus globulus can be used as an herbal plant to prevent Covid-19 comorbid diseases such as diabetes, tuberculosis, asthma, hepatitis, and diarrhea. The use of Eucalyptus globulus in the treatment of these co-morbidities could provide potential benefits for the prevention and control of Covid-19 disease.
