Avant-garde: The Scientific Journal of Performing Arts Education is published periodically three times a year, namely in February, June and October, is a forum for channeling thoughts and disseminating knowledge in the realm of Performing Arts (drama, dance and music) and learning in the form of research articles, review articles/literature studies, case report articles, and conceptual or policy articles. Editors accept manuscripts that have never been published in other media from researchers, lecturers, students, and performing arts practitioners with the writing requirements as listed on the Author Guidelines page. Manuscript submissions will be evaluated and edited for uniformity in format, terms and other procedures.

Abstract

This study aims to explain and describe the Performing Arts Management System at Sanggar Sarai Sarumpun in the Performing Arts Industry in Padang City. This type of research is qualitative research using a descriptive method. The research instrument is the author himself and is assisted by supporting instruments such as writing instruments and cameras. This type of data uses primary data and secondary data. Data collection techniques were carried out through library research, observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis is done by collecting data, describing the data and concluding the data. From the results obtained, the management of the Sarai Sarumpun Studio has a plan by making programs that will be carried out and will be implemented, with the preparation of equipment and exercises. Organizing has been done by making a line-shaped management structure. Organizing also determines the duties and authorities of the board. Mobilization is done by carrying out the provision of motivation, and guidance and moving on to the set goals. Internal supervision is carried out directly or indirectly, then external supervision is carried out by evaluating activities. Sanggar Sarai Sarumpun also has a production house consisting of dances, music, night bainai, babako. Marketing management from Sarai Sarumpun also keeps up with the times. Sanggar Sarai Sarumpun has been registered with the Tourism Office and is collaborating with the agency. The management of the organization chosen by Sanggar Sarai Sarumpun shows democratic management.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the development of Batempo dance in Koto Padang Village, Tanah Kampung District, Sungai Penuh City, Jambi Province. The type of research used is qualititave research with descriptive analysis method. The object of research is the Batempo dance which is located in Koto Padang, Tanah Kampung District, Sungai Penuh City, Jambi Province. The main instrument in this research is the researcher herself, while the supporting instruments used are stationery, camera, and flaskdisk. Data collection techniques carried out by literature study, observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique was carried out by collecting data, reducing data, and drawing conclusions. From this study, it was found that after efforts were made to develop the Batempo dance in terms og the quantity of dance performers, the goal of the development was achieved, namely the formation of a new group of dancers for the Batempo dance, in the sense that the first group of the Batempo dance has been replaced, so that with the formation of a new group of dancers the results from developing the quantity of dance performers is a form of effort to preserve the Batempo dance in Koto Padang Village, Tanah Kampung District, Sungai Penuh City, Jambi Province.

Abstract

Piriang Pijak dance in Ateh Galeh is a traditional dance of the Nagari Unggan community, Sumpur Kudus District, Sijunjung Regency, which has developed and has been recognised by the local community. This Piriang dance can be danced by men and women in odd or even numbers and can be danced by 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, or 10 dancers. Wearing a long cloth property on which plates and glasses are placed in a straight line while holding tada in both palms at the end of the index finger paired with a ring made of dama or candlenut fruit by presenting movements inspired by the activities of farmers working on rice fields starting from the beginning of mamugo until the harvest period comes. The purpose of this study was to determine and describe the aesthetics of piriang pijak dance in ateh galeh in Nagari Unggan, Sumpur Kudus District, Sijunjung Regency. This is qualitative research with descriptive methods; data collection is done through a literature study, observation, interviews, and documentation. The object of this research is the piriang pijak dance in Ateh Galeh. The steps of analysing data are data collection, data reduction, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study reveal the form and aesthetics contained in the Piriang Pijak dance in Ateh Galeh. The aesthetic value of Piriang Pijak dance in Ateh Galeh is reflected in the elements that make up Piriang Pijak dance in Ateh Galeh, namely the existence of movements, dancers, properties, floor patterns, makeup and clothing, and performance venues.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the impact of using the geschool application on cultural arts learning (dance) at Adabiah 2 Padang High School. The type of research used is qualitative research. The instrument of this research is the researcher himself, who is assisted by supporting instruments in the form of cameras, photographs, and interviews. The type of data uses primary and secondary data. Data collection techniques were carried out by means of literature study, observation, interviews, and documentation. The steps of analysing data are: identifying data, clarifying data, describing data, analysing data, and concluding data. The results showed that the use of the Geschool application in learning cultural arts (dance) in class XI MIPA 1 SMA Adabiah 2 Padang has a positive and negative impact on teachers and students. The positive impact for teachers is that it is easier for teachers to access material in school; there is a responsibility for daily exercises and tests for students. The negative impact on teachers is signal interference, which causes the school to error when sending material to students, health problems, and the teaching and learning process to be ineffective and inefficient. While the positive impact on students is discipline and responsibility for the tasks given by the teacher, students can repeat the material that has been taught at home. The negative impact on students is that they have difficulty understanding the material, parents' expenses are increasing to buy internet packages for learning at school and at home, threatening health, students are negligent with smartphones in learning, and there is a lack of student interaction with their friends.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and reveal the development of Sewa dance actors in Sanggar Talago Biru Nagari Pitalah, Batipuh District, Tanah Datar Regency. This type of research is qualitative research with a descriptive analysis method. The instrument in this research is the researcher himself and is assisted by supporting instruments such as stationery, a camera, and a flash drive. The data in this study used primary and secondary data. Data collection techniques were carried out by means of library studies, observation, interviews, and documentation. The steps of analysing data are collecting data, describing data, and concluding data. The results showed that sewa dance is a traditional dance that developed in the Talago Biru Studio, Jorong Jambak Nagari Pitalah, where this dance has not been danced for a long time. Talago Biru Studio was developed by interviewing Tuo Dance, the owner of Talago Biru Studio, and asking permission from the Wali Nagari. Rental dance actors are usually played by two actors, namely the dance tuo and his Sapaguruan friends. The development carried out at the Talago Biru studio consisted of eight meetings, where at the first meeting the dance actors consisted of four men. At the second meeting, the number of Sewa dance actors increased to 2 people, so that the total number of Sewa dance actors totaled 6 people. In the third and eighth meetings, the Sewa dance actors conducted training by continuing and repeating the movements that had been taught by the dance teacher. However, until now, there have not been female actors playing sewa dance because the traditional customs in Nagari Pitalah do not have women playing silat. Therefore, the traditional customs of Nagari Pitalah silat actors are only played by men.

Abstract

This study aims to describe "extracurricular band activities at SMA Negeri 1 Seluma, Bengkulu Province." This type of research is qualitative and conducted using descriptive methods. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, literature studies, and documentation. Data analysis techniques by means of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing The results of research on "Band Extracurricular Activities at SMA Negeri 1 Seluma Bengkulu Province" The design of extracurricular band activities is to design training activities for two times a week and the formation of a management structure so that activities run smoothly and are directed. The musical instrument equipment used is an electric guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, microphones for vocals, and amps. The activities carried out by students are individual practice, group practice, group formation, and playing songs. Teachers always monitor the development of students who take part in extracurricular band activities, and students are always under the supervision of coaches and trainers during extracurricular band activities. The band's extracurricular achievements are being able to play songs and master techniques, being able to perform at school events, and participating in student-level band festival events.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the differences in student learning outcomes taught using the snowball throwing method and student dance learning outcomes taught using conventional methods to improve student learning outcomes in cultural arts learning at SMA N 12 Padang. This type of research is quantitative, using experimental methods. The population in this study were 251 students of class XI SMA Negeri 12 Padang with a research sample of 2 classes, namely the experimental class (XI IPA 3) and the control class (XI IPA 4) with a total of 71 people, which were obtained based on average scores that were not much different and relatively the same standard deviation (assumed to be homogeneous) and normally distributed. The instrument used in this study was an objective test. The results showed that based on the t-test results, it was concluded that the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted at the 95% significance level and dk = (36+ 35) - 2 because tcount> ttable (2.07 > 1.67). In other words, the application of the snowball throwing method has an effect on the learning outcomes of Class XI SMA Negeri 12 Padang students. This can also be seen from the average difference in the scores of the experimental class (snowball throwing) being higher than the control class (conventional), which is 79.26> 74.47.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the Functions of Persembahan Dance in the Malay Community Wedding Party in Kampung Besar Seberang Village, Rengat District, Indragiri Hulu Regency, Riau Province. The type of research used is qualitative research with analytical descriptive methods. Data collection techniques used are literature study, observation, interviews and documentation. The types of data used are primary data and secondary data. The data analysis technique used is by selecting data, analyzing data, and interpreting and describing the data so as to produce conclusions from what is being studied. The results of the study found that the Persembahan Dance in the Malay community wedding party had 2 dance functions, namely the function of the ceremony and the function of performance or aesthetic presentation. The function of the ceremony, the Persembahan Dance is performed in traditional Malay wedding parties, where this dance is to welcome respected guests, namely a pair of bride and groom sitting side by side in the aisle. The dance ends with the presentation of a betel leaf. Persembahan Dance in traditional Malay weddings today has become a new tradition. Without the Persembahan Dance, the wedding party is not lively. The Persembahan Dance is danced by 5 female dancers with a beautiful, glamorous and majestic impression who prioritizes aesthetics. The Persembahan Dance is deliberately prepared with a varied choreography intended to be shown to the general public to function as a dance performance or an aesthetic presentation.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to improve dance learning outcomes by using demonstration methods at SMK Negeri 7 Padang. A type of applied research is classroom action research. Tahao in this study, namely the stages of planning, implementation, observation and reflection. Observation boards, final tests and skill (practice) tests are used as aids in research. Data collection techniques through observation, tests and documentation. The results showed that the demonstration method with teachers as a direct example can improve student learning activities and dance learning outcomes. In Cycle 1 there is an increase in student learning, but not all students are able to carry out learning activities correctly. For Cycle II the teacher makes improvements that occur in Cycle I, the teacher guides students in practice with groups, visits students and does exercises. The average student learning outcome in Cycle I is 50% with poor criteria. After improvements were made in Cycle II, the average student achievement increased to 83 percent with good criteria. The use of demonstration methods in dance learning in class X Dance 2 also affects the average learning outcomes of students. The average learning outcomes of students before using the demonstration method were 50, the increase after using the demonstration method in Cycle I averaged 61.1. Because it did not reach the KKM of 70, then the race again in Cycle II and reached 85.6. So that through the demonstration method in the cultural arts class, the average score of class X Dance 2 students can be achieved above KKM.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan mendeskripsikan Pembelajaran Teori Musik Menggunakan Software Sibelius di kelas X Musik SMKN 7 Padang. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Instrumen dalam penelitian ini adalah peneliti sendiri dan dibantu dengan instrumen pendukung berupa alat tulis dan handphone. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan studi pustaka, observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Langkah-langkah menganalisis data adalah mengumpulkan data, mengidentifikasi data, mengklasifikasikan data, mendeskripsikan data dan menyimpulkan data. Hasil penelitian ini adalah 1) pembelajaran teori musik dengan materi interval dikelas X Musik menggunakan software sibelius berjalan dengan baik dan lancer, 2) penggunaan software sibelius sebagai media pendukung utama menjadi efektif digunakan dalam pembelajaran teori musik dikelas X Musik SMK N 7 Padang, 3) keefektifan penggunaan software sibelius untuk menyalin notasi musik dan memperdengarkan bunyi secara langsung dirasakan oleh semua siswa., 4) suasana pembelajaran dikelas X Musik menjadi lebih menyenangkan, efektif dan hasilnya lebih baik dengan media pendukung software sibelius.
