Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum is a new curriculum introduced by the Ministry of Education and Culture to improve the quality of education in Indonesia. This curriculum provides freedom for educational units and teachers to develop students' potential according to their interests and talents, and the material taught is also essential material. The Merdeka Curriculum will begin to be implemented in the 2023/2024 academic year for new students at the SMA/SMK level. To support the implementation of the Independent Curriculum, the Ministry of Education and Culture has compiled and published teacher guidebooks and student books for all subjects. These books can be downloaded for free via the internet. The review of books by Independent Curriculum teachers and students aims to examine the content, structure and quality of these books from various aspects, such as conformity with competency standards, relevance to students' needs, readability, understandability and the relationship between concepts. This study also provides suggestions and recommendations for improving these books to make them more effective and efficient in the learning process. It is hoped that this study can provide input for the Ministry of Education and Culture, education units, teachers and students in implementing the Independent Curriculum.

Abstract

Prayer occupies a central and indispensable role in Islam, particularly within the doctrinal framework of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama‘ah. It is considered an essential aspect of religious life that cannot be neglected. This is emphasized in the Qur’an, which affirms that the prophets consistently engaged in supplication to Allah, among them, Prophet Ibrahim is a prominent example. The Qur’an records numerous prayers, many of which are attributed to Prophet Ibrahim. His supplications encompass a broad range of intentions, including prayers for the well-being of the land, for himself, his descendants, his parents, and for the community of believers. Notably, the Qur’an records that a significant portion of his prayers were directed toward the welfare and guidance of his progeny. This indicates that supplication in Islam is not solely a personal act, but also a means of seeking divine mercy and blessings for others who share the faith.

Abstract

This study explores the challenges faced by students of STAI UISU Pematangsiantar in accessing Islamic digital literature for academic writing. Using a qualitative approach through interviews, observations, and document analysis, the research identifies four main categories of obstacles: accessibility, digital literacy, availability of literature, and motivation and perception. Accessibility barriers include poor internet connectivity, limited devices, and high data costs. Students’ digital literacy remains low, particularly in searching for credible sources, utilizing academic databases, and applying reference management tools. Regarding availability, relevant Islamic digital literature is still limited, while the campus repository is not yet accessible online. Although students show relatively high motivation, pragmatic perceptions and the lack of institutional support often lead them to rely on open sources with questionable credibility. The findings highlight that the students’ challenges are multidimensional, encompassing technical, financial, linguistic, and structural aspects. This study is expected to provide a foundation for strengthening Islamic digital literacy policies and facilities at STAI UISU Pematangsiantar.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning at the junior high school level still faces various challenges, especially related to low learning outcomes and the lack of active student involvement in the learning process. This is largely due to the conventional approach that is still widely used by teachers. To overcome these problems, an innovative learning model is needed that is able to increase student participation and understanding. This study compares the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning model and Blended Learning in Islamic Religious Education learning. The experimental method was used with a posttest-only control group design on grade IX students of SMP Negeri 3 Panyabungan. Data were obtained through essay tests and analyzed using t-tests. The results showed that the PBL model produced higher learning scores than Blended Learning. These findings indicate that PBL is more effective in improving student learning outcomes in the context of PAI subjects.

Abstract

This paper discusses concept maps as a learning medium in Islamic education. Concept maps function to systematically organize knowledge, helping learners understand the interrelation of core elements of Islamic education such as aqidah, worship, morality, knowledge, and da’wah. Through visualization, this method enhances motivation, comprehension, and critical thinking skills. Moreover, concept maps support the integration of religious and general knowledge, making Islamic education more relevant to contemporary needs. Despite implementation challenges, concept maps are considered effective in improving the quality of learning and shaping Muslims who are faithful, knowledgeable, and morally upright.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the process of Islamic Education (PAI) curriculum development in the digital era at Madrasah Tsanawiyah, as well as the challenges encountered and the solutions that can be implemented. The main focus is on identifying existing challenges and exploring applicable solutions. The research method employed is a literature review combined with descriptive analysis of curriculum documents and experiences of implementation in the digital era. The findings reveal that the development of the PAI curriculum faces several obstacles, including limitations in human and financial resources, limited use of technology in learning, and low stakeholder involvement in the processes of curriculum design and evaluation. In addition, issues related to students’ learning motivation and the lack of variation in instructional strategies also hinder the optimal implementation of the curriculum. The proposed solutions include continuous professional development for teachers, the integration of information and communication technology in PAI learning, enhanced collaboration among schools, parents, and the community, and the adjustment of curriculum content to ensure its relevance to contemporary needs and challenges. A responsive and adaptive PAI curriculum is expected to improve the quality of learning and to shape a generation that is religious, critical, and well-characterized in the digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the concept, implementation, and development of the Islamic Education Curriculum (PAI) in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah. The PAI curriculum plays a crucial role in shaping students with strong faith, noble character, and the ability to practice Islamic values in daily life. This research employs a library research method, collecting data from digital books, ebooks, and relevant scholarly sources. The findings indicate that the PAI curriculum covers essential values such as tauhid, worship, morals, and social interactions, which are integrated into the learning process. Its implementation includes planning, classroom activities, religious habituation, and comprehensive evaluation encompassing cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. Curriculum development requires relevance, contextualization, and technological integration to meet contemporary educational demands.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze Fatima Mernissi's thoughts on gender equality and their implications for Islamic education. This study is motivated by the persistence of gender inequality in Muslim societies, which are often legitimized through patriarchal-biased religious interpretations. The study uses a qualitative method with a library study approach, with data sources consisting of Fatima Mernissi's works and relevant scientific literature. The data were analyzed using descriptive-analytical analysis techniques with a historical and sociological approach. The results show that Fatima Mernissi affirms Islam as a religion that upholds the principles of justice and gender equality and rejects the subordination of women that stems from social and political constructions. Mernissi uses a critical approach to religious texts, particularly misogynistic hadiths, by placing them in a historical and sociological context. From the perspective of Islamic education, Mernissi's thoughts position education as the primary means of empowering women and establishing just gender relations. The conclusion of the study confirms that gender equality in Islamic education is in line with the basic values ​​of Islamic teachings and needs to be realized through a contextual rereading of religious texts with a justice perspective.

Abstract

Education is a complex system involving several key components, including goals, content, methodology, and evaluation. Evaluation, although the last component in the education system, plays a crucial role in assessing the achievement of educational goals and providing feedback for improvement. This article discusses the definition of evaluation, stating that it is a process to determine the value or meaning contained in something. The focus then shifts to the function of evaluation in Islamic education, explained as a feedback tool (muraja'ah) to measure students' progress in understanding the content of Islamic teachings. Evaluation has functions of improvement (ishlah), purification (tazkiyah), renewal (tajdid), and providing feedback to students' parents (ad-dakhil). The text then continues to discuss the tools and principles of Islamic education evaluation, explaining that class evaluation involves planning steps, information collection, recording, and reporting of results. The Continuous Evaluation System is introduced as an approach conducted continuously to assess students' progress in mastering basic competencies. Overall, this article highlights the crucial role of evaluation in the context of education, especially Islamic education. Evaluation is not just an assessment tool but also an instrument for improvement, motivation, and the development of the entire education system.

Abstract

Conventional teacher-centered learning approaches result in superficial conceptual understanding and suboptimal development of students' practical skills. This study employed a qualitative approach with library research method on primary sources including theoretical works of Piaget, Vygotsky, and Woolfolk, as well as secondary sources from scientific journals related to constructivist learning. This study presents a new synthesis on the adaptation of constructivist learning within the context of Islamic values through: (1) epistemological dimension that integrates knowledge construction with tawhid and moral values, (2) methodological dimension that connects constructivist methods with munazarah, halaqah, and tadabbur traditions, (3) axiological dimension that directs learning toward character and spiritual formation, and (4) pedagogical dimension that positions teachers as murabbi and uswatun hasanah. The implementation of constructivist learning requires transformation of teachers' roles from information centers to facilitators and learning guides with formative evaluation that holistically assesses learning processes and outcomes.
