Abstract

This paper explores the issue of mubdil on Hajj Badal. A mubdil is a person who replaces the entire series of Hajj from Mubdal Minhu (a person being replaced). The narration of the hadith explains that a mubdil is a child or sibling of a person the person being replaced. In reality, many practices of hajj badal are carried out by people who do not have a descendant relationship with mubdal minhu, even the mubdil does not know the person he has replaced absolutely, and vice versa. there were also cases of misapplication of responsibility and fraud of hajj badal by replacing more than one mubdal minhu. The practice of hajj badal is based on the hadiths of Rasulullah which inform about replacing others in the Hajj because of physical conditions or because of death. The hadiths will be examined using the fiqh al-hadith method by studying the hadiths based on their relationship with the verses of the Qur'an and other hadith and through the textual and contextual approach of the hadith. Based on this method, it can be explored how the characteristics that must be possessed by a mubdil. The realization of these characteristics can minimize the occurrence of misuse of responsibility and trust in Hajj Badal.

Although many studies on Ashabiyah and Mulk have been carried out, there have been very few attempts to apply them into the empirical phenomena in various society. This paper intends to apply Ashabiyah and Mulk’s theory of Ibn Khaldun in the history of the role of saints’ da’wa and their alliances with the rulers in the period of Demak’s Empire. The research was compiled using literature studies, with the main source of Muqaddimah and various related research articles. Abstract

Religious pluralism is a constructive attitude, not only theological normative awareness but also social awareness, where we live in a pluralistic society in terms of religion, culture, ethnicity, and various other social diversity. In addition, religious pluralism must also be understood as a true affinity for diversity. Religious pluralism is a concept that has a broad meaning, is related to the acceptance of various religions, and is used in different ways. Pluralism aims to deconstruct absolutism, asserting relativism and underlying tolerance for differences, heterogeneity, and pluralism not only as facts that must be recognized but pluralism is seen and treated as a form of positivism, not negativism. Besides religious pluralism is also used as a unifying tool and glue for a country, both from the lower, middle and upper classes. In addition, a pluralist who promotes pluralism through pluralism must acknowledge and defend these differences, pluralism, and heterogeneity to be used as useful things. But in fact until now in the midst of society, there are still different perceptions in interpreting plurality and the term pluralism, understanding multicultural meaning based on sharia, not just mere personal perception.

Abstract

This study analyzes the discourse on the caliphate system, the Islamic state, and the Sharia-based regional regulation among Indonesian Muslim youth. After the reform era, the large flow of Islamic studies and political discourse in Indonesia was marked by a big wave of return of Islamic conservatism. The discourse of jihad, caliphs, Sharia-based regional regulation, and the struggle to bring about an Islamic state became lively. This study focuses on millennial young Islamic activists' responses whose join public schools in Pekalongan City, Central Java, Indonesia. With a qualitative approach, this study's data were obtained through interviews, observation, and documentation. The data were analyzed through an interactive analysis tool introduced by Miles and Huberman. The results of this study reveal that Muslim youths have multiple personalities. They want to be entirely religious and apply Islam in all aspects. Still, they are also aware that a state based on Pancasila (Five principles) is the right choice in a pluralistic Indonesian context. This study also found that the majority of Indonesian youths had minimal literacy in the constituent debate on religious and state relations during the formation of the Indonesian state. This fact impacts the lack of awareness, understanding, and contextualization of the caliphate system's discourse, the Islamic state, and the Sharia regulation among Indonesian Muslim youth. On the other hand, the strengthening of textual understanding and the lack of awareness of nationalism literacy are the threat to the sustainability of the Indonesian nation’s future.

Abstract

Ashabiyah and Mulk are positioned as driving forces within the broader framework of Ibn Khaldun’s theory on the rise and fall of dynasties. While many studies have explored Ashabiyah and Mulk, limited efforts have been made to apply these concepts to empirical phenomena in various societies. This paper aims to bridge this gap by applying Ibn Khaldun’s theory to the historical role of saints’ da’wa and their alliances with rulers during the era of the Demak Empire. This research employs a qualitative approach using literature studies, with primary sources including Ibn Khaldun’s Muqaddimah and secondary sources from related scholarly articles. The analysis reveals that Ibn Khaldun’s theory effectively explains the decline of the Demak Empire, attributed to the weakening of Ashabiyah among its ruling elite. This research contributes to the academic discourse by offering a practical application of Ibn Khaldun’s theoretical framework to historical and sociological analysis, highlighting its utility in understanding the dynamics of social cohesion and governance. Abstract

This paper explores the issue of mubdil in Badal Hajj. A mubdil is a person that performing the entire series of Hajj on behalf of a mubdal minhu (the person being replaced). According to hadith narrations, a mubdil is ideally a child or sibling of the mubdal minhu. However, in practice, Badal Hajj is often carried out by individuals with no familial ties to the mubdal minhu, and in some cases, the mubdil has no knowledge of the person they are replacing. Instances of responsibility misapplication and even fraudulent practices, such as performing Badal Hajj for multiple mubdal minhu, have also been reported. The practice of Badal Hajj is rooted in hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad, permitting to perform Hajj on behalf of others due to physical incapacity or death. This study employs the fiqh al-hadith method to examine these hadiths, analyzing them in relation to Quranic verses, other hadiths, and through both textual and contextual approaches. The findings reveal specific characteristics that a mubdil must possess to fulfill their responsibilities ethically and effectively. These characteristics, when realized, can minimize the misuse of responsibility and ensure the trustworthiness of Badal Hajj practices. This research contributes to the field of Islamic jurisprudence by providing a detailed framework for the ethical practice of Badal Hajj. It highlights the importance of maintaining trust and integrity in religious practices and offers methodological insights into analyzing hadiths in conjunction with contemporary challenges.
