Conference on Management, Business, Innovation, Education and Social Sciences (CoMBInES) Conducting a research is one of the implementations of Three Pillars of Higher Education that has a crucial role for the development of science, technology, and arts as well as for the improvement of the welfare of society since the research results are directly implemented to the society/community. To spread more significant effect; not only for the society/community but also for more external parties; therefore, Universitas Internasional Batam hold a Conference on Management, Business, Innovation, Education and Social Sciences (CoMBInES) that is attended by lecturers and students from both domestic and overseas partners to disseminate their research works. Through this conference, the researchers are able to share their knowledge and motivation in the application of sustainable research activities.

Abstract

The growing trend of the gig economy (GE) globally and nationally has contributed to the rise of gig workforce to reducing unemployment. Also, the increased demand for gig services in Malaysia has made GE as a recognised new economic driver. This is observed with the introduction of i-Saraan and e-rezeki. GE has opened up many employments opportunities with the option of maintaining work-life balance (WLB). This flexibility aligns with the desire of many Malaysians and millennials. With that said, what are the main influencing factors that contributed to the gig workers’ WLB remain unexplored. This study aims to determine whether job autonomy (JA), work engagement (WE), and mental health (MH) are positively related to WLB via spillover theory. A total of 212 self-administered surveys were collected from the Malaysian low-skilled gig workers through judgmental and snowball sampling. Variance-Based structural equation modeling (VB-SEM) approach was to validate proposed hypotheses. The findings revealed that JA, WE, and MH had significant positive effects on WLB. Besides filling the research gap, this study provides some insights on the gig economy's sustainability, improves overall gig workers’ well-being in attaining WLB.

Abstract

Pada penelitian ini, penulis merancang suatu penelitian dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui implementasi serta dampak dari pemberlakuan kebijakan dari aturan sistem Zonasi pada penerimaan peserta didik baru pada tingkat SMP di Batam Pada Tahun Ajaran 2019/2020. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian penulis, Pelaksanaan sistem zonasi pada Penerimaan Peserta didik baru (PPDB) tingkat SMP tahun ajaran 2019/2020 di kota Batam tidak terlaksana dengan baik sepenuhnya. Pelaksanaan PPDB tersebut memang memberikan pemerataan Pendidikan dalam segi input (penerimaan peserta didik baru) di sekolah negeri akan tetapi pemerataan Pendidikan dalam segi input di sebagian sekolah swasta dan pemerataan Pendidikan dalam segi proses di sekolah negeri belum merata

Abstract

Variabel independen menggunakan kualitas pengungkapan, dewan independensi, ukuran dewan, ukuran perusahaan, umur perusahaan, leverage, dan likuiditas, variabel dependen menggunakan kinerja perusahaan. Sampel penelitian semua sektor kecuali finance yang terdaftar di BEI dan menerbitkan laporan keberlanjutan GRI G4, 68 data yang memenuhi kriteria menggunakan metode analisis regresi data panel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kualitas pengungkapan lingkungan, ukuran dewan, dan likuiditas tidak signifikan terhadap kinerja perusahaan. Leverage signifikan negatif terhadap kinerja perusahaan. Dewan independensi, ukuran perusahaan, dan umur perusahaan berpengaruh signifikan positif terhadap kinerja perusahaan

Abstract

In the current era of technology, living standards are increasing, information media can be accessed easily and various technologies are created to facilitate human activities. Almost everyone has decent clothes that they don't use anymore because they don't fit the body or clothes that they don't want to use anymore. People tend to throw away even though the clothes are still worth wearing or keep them even though they are not used. This study discusses the design and development of mobile-based applications. The method used is the Scrum Framework by determining the product backlog, sprint planning, sprint for two weeks, sprint review and sprint retrospective in this study. The result of this research is a mobile-based donation application where donors can donate goods to communities

Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh karakteristik audit, karakteristik perusahaan dan komite audit terhadap pergantian auditor. Sampel perusahaan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 453 perusahaan yang terdaftar pada Bursa Efek Indonesia pada tahun 2015 hingga 2019. Variabel penggolongan karakteristik audit merupakan reputasi auditor dan opini audit. Variabel penggolongan karakteristik perusahaan merupakan kesulitan keuangan, pergantian manajemen, dan leverage. Data diperoleh kemudian diolah menggunakan program SPSS. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa reputasi auditor dan profitabilitas memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap pergantian auditor sedangkan kesulitan keuangan, pergantian manajemen, opini audit, komite audit, dan leverage tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap pergantian auditor.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between ownership structure and board structure as well as the moderation of political connections in Indonesian stock exchange companies using the dummy method. The object of this research uses the necessary data collection methods. This study uses data on companies listed on the Indonesian stock exchange as the research sample. Companies taken from 2016 to 2020. The research sample used was 1748 data from 437 companies that matched the predetermined research criteria and qualifications. The use of SPSS and Smart PLS software to test the sample data of this study.

Abstract

A locker is a small cupboard that functions as a temporary storage area for items such as bags, wallets, and others. Lockers are widely used, especially in public places such as swimming pools, tourist attractions, and even factories where we are not allowed to carry goods for safety and security reasons. Unfortunately, there is one drawback of lockers, namely the locking feature still uses keys in general which are prone to loss. To reduce the risk of loss, this research was conducted to implement an IoT (Internet of Things) system on a locker using the “Blynk” application and Arduino media devices to control the locker without having to fear losing keys (Doshi et al., 2017)

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the relationship between board characteristics, audit committee meetings, and audit quality with ownership concentration as the moderating variable. This study used 133 firms in manufacturing sectors as the sample for the period 2016 to 2020. The results of the study show that the board’s age diversity has a negative significant effect on audit quality, board’s education, and number of audit committee meetings have a significant effect on audit quality. The findings also show that moderating variable could strengthen the relationship between board’s age diversity and audit quality and weaken the relationship between the number of audit committee meetings and audit quality.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of the variables on the millennial generation in Batam City. This study covers three independent variables namely peer influence, parental socialization, and financial attitude towards the dependent variable namely saving behavior, with financial literacy as mediating variable. By using purposive sampling and a five-point Likert scale questionnaire, this study collected sample from 400 millennials in Batam City. The SmartPLS application version 3.2.9 is used to investigate the relationship between variables. The empirical results state that peer influence, parental socialization, financial attitude have a significant positive effect on financial literacy, subsequently financial literacy mediates a significant positive effect between peer influence, parental socialization, financial attitude towards saving behavior, and lastly financial literacy has a significant positive effect on saving behavior of the millennial generation in Batam City. All of these findings are very important because they will help the authorized institutions to develop policies for millennials on how to respond and manage money to save wisely.

Abstract

The study was conducted to examine and analyze the effect of the independent variable, namely corporate governance and company characteristics on the dependent variable, namely accounting conservatism. The independent variables of corporate governance consist of the size of the board of directors, independent board of directors, type of auditor and the independent variables of company characteristics consist of firm size, leverage, profitability, and sales growth. Measurement of accounting conservatism in this research is measured based on accrual-based following Al-Saidi (2020). The object of this research are companies that have annual reports that are registered and published on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The data used in this research was 5 years for the period from 2016 to 2020. There are 729 companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, only 436 companies passed the selection to be used in this study. The data that has been collected will be processed using SPSS software and Eviews which will be analyzed using a panel regression model. The results obtained by the researcher indicate that the independent board of directors, leverage, profitability and sales growth have a significant positive effect on accounting conservatism. The variable size of the board of directors, type of auditor and firm size did not show a significant effect on accounting conservatism.
