Abstract

Blood clams are a seafood widely consumed by coastal communities, including in Muara Angke, Jakarta. However, blood clams are susceptible to microplastic contamination due to marine pollution. Consumption of seafood contaminated with microplastics can cause health impacts, such as organ and hormonal disorders. This study aims to determine the relationship between community knowledge and attitudes with blood clam processing behavior in Rusun UPRS Blok G Muara Angke. This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 117 respondents from RT 10, RT 11, and RT 12, selected proportionally. The instrument was a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. The results showed that 76.1% of respondents had high knowledge, 56.4% had a positive attitude, and 64.1% showed good consumption behavior. The chi-square test showed no significant relationship between knowledge and consumption behavior (p = 0.074), but there was a significant relationship between attitude and consumption behavior (p = 0.014). These results indicate that attitude has a greater influence on safe processing behavior than knowledge. Further education is needed for the community regarding the dangers of microplastics and safe seafood processing methods.

Abstract

Introduction: Atrial fibrillation as an initial presenting symptom of thyroid storm especially in underdiagnosed hyperthyroidism’s patient is still under-reported in the literature. Thyroid storm is an uncontrolled hyperthyroid condition caused by an extreme increase in thyroid hormone in the circulation which is a rare life-threatening clinical condition. Atrial fibrillation can occur in 2 out of 10 thyroid storm patients with a mortality rate up to 25% if left untreated. Case Illustration: A 73-year-old woman, came to the ER at Awal Bros A Yani Hospital with palpitation as a chief complaint. The patient had never experienced in this complaint before, never been diagnosed with thyroid nodules or grave’s disease or ongoing any treatment. Patient was done treated aggressive and intensively as initial management in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and continued with management of thyroid storm by controlling the tachyarrhythmia and underlying etiology disease. The examination tools were physical and laboratory examination tools. The data analysis technique used descriptive analysis with the result total score of Wayne Index Criterial is 30 (hypoerthyroidism) and using the Burch-Wartofsky criteria, with total Burch-Wartofsky Point Scale (BPWS) score is 60 suggestive of Thyroid Storm. Physical examination found a lump in the left side anterior neck area approximately 3x3 cm. On ECG examination, a picture of atrial fibrillation was obtained. From laboratory examination, it was found that there was a decrease in TSHS < 0.05 uIU/ml and an increased FT4 5.65 pmol/L and X-ray showed cardiomegaly with signs of pulmonary congestion. Conclusion: Early detection of thyroid storm can prevent mortality and morbidity because it is often missed due to atypical symptoms. Providing treatment for underlying conditions can reduce patient morbidity and mortality.

Abstract

Dental and oral health problems in children, such as dental caries, can cause toothache that disrupts sleep and concentration, impair chewing ability which reduces nutritional intake, and potentially affect cognitive and psychomotor development. According to the Indonesian Health Survey (SKI, 2023), the prevalence of dental caries among children aged 3–4 years is 81.1%, among those aged 5–9 years is 92.6%, and among those aged 10–14 years is 73.4%. Preliminary survey results indicated that most kindergarten children experience dental and oral health problems. This study aims to examine the relationship between parents’ knowledge and the maintenance of dental and oral health in kindergarten children in the working area of UPTD Ulak Rengas Public Health Center, North Lampung, in 2025. This is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 59 parents, selected using proportional random sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire. The frequency distribution test results showed that 19 respondents (32.2%) had poor dental health maintenance, while 40 respondents (67.8%) had good dental health maintenance. The chi-square statistical test revealed a significant relationship between knowledge (p-value = 0.007; OR = 5.815) and dental health maintenance. It is recommended that the public health center strengthen regular and scheduled dental and oral health education and counseling programs for the community through posyandu (integrated health service posts), schools, and other community activities.

Abstract

Background: Adolescents are a group undergoing rapid growth and development, which requires a balanced nutritional intake. A lack of knowledge and a negative attitude toward balanced nutrition can be a risk factor for nutritional problems, including both undernutrition and overnutrition. According to WHO in 2021, around 196 million adolescents worldwide experienced undernutrition, and more than 340 million children and adolescents were obese. Objective: This research aims to determine the correlation between knowledge and attitude about balanced nutrition with the nutritional status of 10th-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Palangka Raya. Methods: This research used a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total sample of 228 students was selected using proportional random sampling. The research instruments included a questionnaire to assess knowledge and attitudes, and anthropometric measurements using Body Mass Index (BMI) to assess nutritional status. Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank test. Results: There was a significant correlation between knowledge about balanced nutrition and nutritional status (p value < 0.042). However, there was no significant correlation between attitude and nutritional status (p value > 0.951). Conclusion: There is a significant correlation between knowledge of balanced nutrition and nutritional status among tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Palangka Raya. Students with better knowledge tend to have better nutritional status, as adequate understanding encourages healthier food choices. However, there is no significant correlation between attitude and nutritional status. Although most respondents had a positive attitude, it was not always reflected in actual behavior. External factors such as family environment, availability of healthy food, and daily habits also influence overall nutritional status.

Abstract

This study aims to explore patient satisfaction with refraction examination services at Optic ARO Gapopin in 2025. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with patients who had undergone refraction examinations. Thematic analysis was employed to identify recurring patterns and perceptions regarding the service. The findings reveal five main themes influencing patient satisfaction: (1) facility comfort, where patients appreciated the modern equipment but noted limited waiting area space; (2) competence and accuracy of examination, as patients trusted the examiners’ skills and found the explanations clear and easy to understand; (3) staff attitude and empathy, with patients highlighting friendliness, patience, and attentiveness; (4) waiting time, which was perceived as relatively long during peak hours; and (5) cost and overall value, where services were considered affordable and proportional to the quality received. In conclusion, patients generally reported being satisfied to highly satisfied with the refraction examination services. The strengths of the service lie in examiner competence and staff empathy, while areas for improvement include waiting time management and waiting area comfort. These findings suggest that enhancing responsiveness and facility convenience could further increase client satisfaction at Optic ARO Gapopin.
