Abstract

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a Staphylococcus aureus bacterium that is resistant to methicillin-type antibiotics. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of the active fraction of sweet corn hair extract on the growth of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteria. Extraction was carried out by the remuneration method in 70% ethanol. In fractionation, liquid vacuum column chromatography with n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and methanol solvents was used. The fraction with the largest clear zone of methanol (100%) is with a clear zone diameter of 0.752 cm. Testing the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract at concentrations of 10%, 15%, and 20% obtained by clear zone with an average of 1,013; 1,073; 1,159 cm and in the active fraction with an average of 0,703; 0.903; 1,004 cm. Ciprofloxacin 0.005% was used as a positive control and DMSO as a negative control. The results showed that ethanol extract and an active fraction of sweet corn hair (Zea mays f saccharata Kornicke & Werner) had antibacterial activity against Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). One-way ANAVA test results showed that there were significant differences in providing antibacterial activity (p> 0.05) between ethanol extract and active fractions at concentrations of 10%, 15%, and 20%. Flavonoid compounds, alkaloids, saponins, tannins, and triterpenoids in the active fraction of corn hair have antibacterial activity against MRSA bacteria.

Abstract

Free radicals are unstable and highly reactive molecules that can cause cells damage. This cell damage can be inhibited by antioxidant compounds. One of the red algae, Kappaphycus alvarezii, is thought to contain phenolics and flavonoids compounds that can b used US antioxidants compounds. this study aims to determine the ethanol extract of red algae (Kappaphycus alvarezii) green variety has antioxidants activity using the DPPH method. this study also aims to determine the IC 50 value of the ethanolic extract of red algae (Kappaphycus alvarezii) green variety. The antioxidant activity test of red algae ethanol extract was carried out using the DPPH method. The results showed that the ethanolic extract of red algae (Kappaphycus alvarezii) green variety had antioxidant activity and the IC 50 value of the ethanolic extract of red algae was 242.28 ppm with a very weakcategory.

Abstract

Inappropriate use of antibiotics can make bacteria’s reistance that cause skin diseases, the example is acne. Acne tretment usually uses synthethic drugs that causes side effects, so the alternative are used by plants that come from nature. On of the plats that has the potential as an antibacterial is the arum manis mango (Mangifera indica L.) because contains compounds that can inhibit the growth of Mathicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus. The research of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of extract  gel’s arum manis mango peel to c. Extract of arum manis mango peel was obtained remaserated using 70% ethanol solvent. The extract obtined were phytochemicel screening and affirmation tests using the TLC (Thin Layer Chromatography) method to ensure the compounds contained. Arum manis mango peel is preparation of gel with a concentration of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%. The results showed that extract of arum manis mango peel preparation gel with concentrations of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%. The results showed that extract of arum manis peel preparation gel with concentration 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% showed significant difference in potential of antibacterial.

Abstract

Kidney disease is a global health problem based on the increase of incidence, prevalence, and morbidity rate. According to RISKESDAS 2018, the prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) was increased significantly. Lannea coromandelica stem bark contains flavonoid was exhibited antioxidant that could be potential as nephroprotector. This study aimed to find out the nephroprotector effect of ethanolic extract of Lannea coromandelica stem bark by measurement serum creatinine levels at rats (Rattus novergicus). This study was used experimental laboratory method. In this study used 25 rats were divided into 5 groups. Group 1 was administered Na CMC 1 % as negative control group. Group 2 was administered aspirin 600 mg/kg body weight as induced control group. Group 3, 4, and 5 were administered Lannea coromandelica stem bark ethanolic extract with the doses 400 mg/kg body weight, 800 mg/kg body weight, and 1200 mg/kg body weight, respectively. The extract of lannea coromandelica stem bark groups were given for 4 days orally. Blood of rats were collected from the orbital sinus eye to be measured creatinine serum level at 5th day. The data was analyzed statistically with one way ANOVA and Paired samples test. The result of this study exhibited that there was a differences of creatinine levels between pre and post treatment with p-value=0.033< 0.05. In conclusion, this study presented that ethanolic extract of Lannea coromandelica stem bark was decreased serum creatinine levels at doses 800 and 1200 mg/kg body weight against the aspirin induced on rats.

Abstract

Binahong plants (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) contain alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and terpenoids, the chemical compounds of binahong leaves have many antibacterial properties. This study aims to determine the antibacterial inhibition of n-hexane (Anredera cofdifolia Ten.) Steenis) against Bacillus Subtillis. This type of research is experimental descriptive, binahong leaf n-hexane fraction was previously obtained by extraction using maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent obtained by using a 10% DMSO dissolved and tested for antibacterial inhibition with the method of solid well diffusion against Bacillus Subtillis in the series of concentrations of 20%,40%,60% dan 80% positive controls used were chloramphenicol 10% and negative control DMSO 20%. The results of the study showed that n-hexane fraction of binahong leaves (Anreders cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) was able to inhibit the growth of the bacterium Bacillus subtillis. The greater the concentration used, the greater the results obtained.
