Abstract

Background: Chemotherapy is the main treatment for breast cancer patients but often causes side effects such as nausea and vomiting, which can reduce patients’ quality of life. Peppermint aromatherapy is a complementary therapy that has antiemetic and relaxation effects. Purpose: To determine the effect of peppermint aromatherapy on nausea and vomiting scores in breast cancer patients after chemotherapy. Method: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test approach. The sample consisted of 20 breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, selected using purposive sampling. Nausea and vomiting scores were measured before and after the intervention using an observation sheet and analyzed using a paired t-test. Results: The results showed a decrease in the mean nausea and vomiting scores after peppermint aromatherapy. Statistical analysis indicated a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores (p < 0.05). Conclusion: It can be concluded that peppermint aromatherapy is effective in reducing nausea and vomiting in breast cancer patients after chemotherapy and can be used as a safe and simple non-pharmacological nursing intervention.

Abstract

Background: Inadequate breast milk production and ejection during the early postpartum period may interfere with successful exclusive breastfeeding. Non-pharmacological interventions, including the Marmet technique, may help stimulate lactation and facilitate breast milk ejection. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effect of breast massage using the Marmet technique on breast milk production among postpartum mothers. Method: This quantitative study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The study involved 30 postpartum mothers selected using purposive sampling. The Marmet technique was administered twice daily for seven consecutive days. Breast milk production was assessed before and after the intervention using a 10-item observation instrument based on indicators of breast milk adequacy. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. Results: The mean breast milk production score increased from 3.03 ± 0.999 before the intervention to 8.87 ± 1.008 after the intervention. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test showed a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (Z = −4.815; p < 0.001). Conclusion: Breast milk production scores improved significantly following the seven-day Marmet technique intervention. The Marmet technique may be considered a non-pharmacological intervention to support lactation among postpartum mothers.

Abstract

Background: The Lactational Amenorrhea Method (LAM) is a natural contraceptive method that can be used by breastfeeding mothers when specific eligibility criteria are fulfilled. Adequate knowledge during pregnancy is important to support informed postpartum contraceptive decision-making. Digital educational media, such as e-booklets, may facilitate access to reproductive health information. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effect of an e-booklet about the Lactational Amenorrhea Method on the knowledge of third-trimester pregnant women. Method: This study employed a quantitative quasi-experimental design using a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The study involved 30 third-trimester pregnant women selected using total sampling. Knowledge was measured before and after the educational intervention using an LAM knowledge questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the paired-samples t-test after the normality assumption was fulfilled. Results: The mean knowledge score increased from 3.70 ± 1.368 before the intervention to 8.50 ± 1.503 after the intervention, with a mean increase of 4.80 points. The paired-samples t-test showed a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest knowledge scores (p < 0.001). Conclusion: The e-booklet intervention significantly improved knowledge about the Lactational Amenorrhea Method among third-trimester pregnant women.   Keywords: E-booklet; Knowledge; Lactational Amenorrhea Method; Pregnant Women.
