Abstract

Background. This study addresses challenges in reading assessment for basic-level Indonesian Language Learning for Foreign Speakers (BIPA). Research Purpose. Creating an instrument that is valid, reliable, practical, and adapted to learners’ language backgrounds. Research Method. Using the ADDIE Research and Development model, the study involved 45 students selected purposively. Data were collected through expert validation, student questionnaires, and reading tests. Validation was done by three experts, with trials conducted in two stages: a limited trial with 15 students and a broader trial with 45 students. Validity was assessed using Content Validity Ratio and Index, reliability with Cronbach’s Alpha, practicality by positive response rates, and effectiveness by comparing pre- and post-test results. Findings. The developed instrument showed high validity, with 93.3% of items rated highly valid by experts and an average score of 4.17 on a 5-point scale. Reliability was strong, indicated by a Cronbach’s Alpha of 0.87. Practicality measured through positive feedback was 83.5% from students and 90.5% from teachers. Effectiveness was demonstrated by an increase in average student reading scores from 65.2 to 78.4 and a 23% rise in learning motivation. The instrument covers literal, inferential, and critical comprehension, matching learners’ characteristics well. Conclusion. This study provides a well-rounded reading assessment tool that can significantly improve reading skills measurement in BIPA learning contexts.

Abstract

Background. Teaching Indonesian as a Foreign Language (BIPA) in Timor Leste presents certain challenges due to differences in sentence structures between Indonesian and Tetun. A thorough understanding of these similarities and differences is essential to improve the effectiveness of BIPA instruction. Research Purpose. This study aims to analyze the comparative sentence structures of Indonesian and Tetun and their implications for teaching BIPA in Timor Leste. Research Method. This qualitative study employs a contrastive analysis method, with data consisting of sentence structures from both languages examined in detail. Findings. The results reveal significant differences in the word order of possessive noun phrases and the use of grammatical particles, which can cause negative interference for BIPA learners whose native language is Tetun. However, similarities in basic sentence patterns, such as the Subject-Predicate-Object (S-P-O) structure, can facilitate the learning process. Conclusion. The study recommends that BIPA instructors develop teaching modules focusing on the sentence structure differences that pose difficulties, particularly those causing negative interference, to enhance the effectiveness of teaching Indonesian to Tetun-speaking learners.   Keywords: Sentence Structure, Indonesian, Tetun, BIPA, Contrastive Analysis

Abstract

Background. The advancement of digital technology has transformed accounting practices from manual systems to digital platforms such as software, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. This shift requires accounting students to master both conceptual knowledge and digital competence in line with current industry needs. Research Purpose. This study aims to describe accounting students’ perceptions of digital financial accounting implementation and examine their competency readiness, particularly within the local context of Gorontalo, a region underrepresented in accounting education research. Research Method. A mixed-methods case study design was employed, involving 13 higher education accounting students as respondents. Quantitative data were collected through a questionnaire based on the constructs of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), the Technology Readiness Index (TRI), and the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), combined with digital competency indicators. Descriptive statistics calculated the mean, median, and standard deviation, while qualitative data from essay responses were analyzed thematically to identify key patterns. Findings. Most students perceive digital accounting as beneficial in improving learning efficiency (mean = 4.07). However, aspects of digital competence, including content creation and data security, remain moderate (mean = 3.0–3.3). Essay responses indicate optimism, hands-on practice, and data protection issues. Conclusion. An initial understanding of accounting students’ perceptions and readiness for digital transformation in Eastern Indonesia serves as a foundation for developing accounting curricula emphasizing digital competence and practical application.
