Al Jabar: Jurnal Pendidikan dan Pembelajaran Matematika is an open access and peer-reviewed journal of Mathematics and Mathematics Education published by the Prodi Tadris Matematika STAI Muhammadiyah Probolinggo. This journal is published twice a year (June and December) in both print and online versions and provides a forum for publishing the original research articles and review articles related to issues in matematics and mathematics education. Articles should be original, research-based, unpublished and not under review for possible publication in other journals. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis kesalahan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita pada materi Sistem Persamaan Linear Dua Variabel (SPLDV) berdasarkan Teori Polya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 15 siswa kelas VIII SMP Al Arifin. Instrumen dalam penelitian adalah tes berbentuk soal cerita sebanyak 5 soal mengenai Sistem Persamaan Linear Dua Variabel (SPLDV). Teknik pengumpulan sampel dipilih 3 orang siswa yang masing-masing mewakili kategori kemampuan tinggi, sedang, dan rendah sebagai subjek penelitian berdasarkan perolehan nilai. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa berkemampuan tinggi dapat memenuhi semua indikator dalam menyelesaikan soal yaitu memahami masalah, memikirkan rencana, melaksanakan rencana, dan memeriksa kembali jawaban. Dan siswa dengan kemampuan sedang hanya dapat mencapai dua indikator yakni memahami masalah dan memikirkan rencana. Sedangkan siswa dengan kemampuan rendah hanya dapat mencapai satu indikator yakni memikirkan rencana dan hanya dapat memisalkan tetapi siswa tidak dapat membuat persamaan. Abstract

Qualitative descriptive is the type of research applied to this study, with the aim of describing the types and what causes students to make mistakes in solving AKM numeracy questions. The test is in the form of AKM numeration questions with 6 students as subjects. The results showed that the students' biggest mistakes were made at the stage of implementing the plan with a percentage of 9.96%, the stage of making plans with a percentage of 7.62%, the stage of understanding the questions with a percentage of 7.23%, and 4.88% at the stage of re-examining the results. which is obtained. The cause of the error at the stage of understanding the questions was that students were not used to writing things that were known and asked about the questions, at the planning stage students were not used to writing down the steps for solving them and tended not to understand the questions so that they had difficulty drawing up plans. The cause of the error at the stage of carrying out the plan is the lack of focus on students in counting and writing digit numbers. The cause of the error at the stage of looking back at the results obtained is that students are not used to checking and making conclusions from answers.Keywords: student error, AKM numeration, Polya’s theory

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the history of mathematics, the role of mathematics as a tool of thought, and the role of mathematics as the language of science so that it can be useful for students and lecturers of Mathematics Education to know the history and role of mathematics as a tool of thought and language in everyday life. This type of research is descriptive research with a literature review approach by combining various references to articles, books and websites. The data used is secondary data. The findings are that mathematics as the language of science is mathematics used to express ideas, thoughts, ideas, feelings, and as a tool for communicating and interacting by humans. Mathematics as a tool of thought is a tool used to symbolize algorithms, manipulate numbers, recognize and find patterns, symbols, tables, and graphs.Keywords: The role of mathematics; Mathematics as a tool of thought; mathematics as the language of science.

Abstract

Penelitian yang dilakukan pada siswa kelas VII MTs Miftahul Ulum ini dengan tujuan meningkatkan kemampuan dalam memecahkan masalah matematika khususnya pada materi bilangan bulat. Subjek penelitian ini terdiri dari 16 siswa kelas VII MTsS Miftahul Ulum kabupaten Probolinggo tahun ajaran 2023/2024 yang menggunakan model pembelajaran Problem Solving. Penelitian menggunakan jenis penelitian tindakan kelas yang dilakukan dalam 2 siklus. Tes yang dilakukan pada tahap pretest, siklus I, dan siklus II untuk mengukur kemampuan pemecahan masalah. Hasil pre-tes menunjukkan nilai rata-rata 26,6. Terjadi peningkatan di siklus 1 dengan nilai rata-rata siswa mencapai 60,0 dan persentase ketuntasan belajar sebesar 33,4%. Pada siklus 2, terjadi peningkatan lagi dengan nilai rata-rata 86,6 dan persentase ketuntasan belajar sebesar 60%. Dari hasil akhir penelitian, diambil sebuah hasil akhir bahwa untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa pada materi bilangan bulat bisa penggunaan model pembelajaran Problem based learning.

Abstract

This research aims to conduct mathematical calculations related to the clustering of statistical course grades among students. The author utilized data from several students enrolled in the Mathematics Education Study Program at STAI Muhammadiyah Probolinggo, who took the statistics course as a case study. The clustering algorithm employed in this study is K-Means. The analysis results provide significant insights into the students' abilities in the statistics course. This research offers potential benefits to the study program in curriculum development and the design of more effective teaching strategies. The findings can be used to identify student groups in need of additional attention and to comprehend academic behavior patterns that may affect learning outcomes. In this study, only grade atributes such as assignments, mid-term, and final exam scores were utilized. Nevertheless, it is worth noting that the K-Means algorithm can be applied to cluster data with multiple grade atributes, including attendance, discipline, participation, and other atributes relevant to student learning.Keywords : mathematical calculations, identification, clustering, attributes

Abstract

Ethnomathematics is the study of how mathematics is related to culture and people's daily lives. In this research, researchers used a descriptive exploratory method with an ethnographic approach. They are looking for information about mathematical concepts contained in the buildings and ornaments of the Al-Akbar Mosque of Surabaya. Several data collection techniques used include literature study, observation, and documentation. The research results show that in the buildings and ornaments of the Al-Akbar Mosque of Surabaya, there are various plane shapes (such as ellipses, squares, circles, and rectangles) and spatial shapes (such as pyramids and tubes). This research can provide a deeper understanding of how mathematical concepts are reflected in the culture and artistic architecture of religious buildings such as mosques.Keywords: Ethnomathematics, Al-Akbar Mosque of Surabaya, Geometry
