Abstract

  Coral reefs are organisms that live at the bottom of the water and take the form of sturdy limestone formations capable of withstanding the force of ocean waves. Ecologically, coral reefs serve as habitats where various animal and plant organisms seek food and shelter. This research aims to analyze the coral reef ecosystem conditions in the waters of Panjang Island and provide recommendations for sustainable management of marine biodiversity in the waters of Panjang Island, Central Bangka Regency. The Underwater Photo Transect (UPT) method involves underwater photography using a digital or regular digital camera equipped with a waterproof housing to withstand seawater exposure. The research results indicate that the percentage of live coral cover in the waters of Panjang Island ranges from 70.07% to 14.07%, categorizing it as fair to poor according to the Minister of Environment Decree No. 4 of 2001 on the Standard for Coral Reef Damage. Fourteen coral growth forms were identified in the waters of Panjang Island, belonging to 17 coral genera. Recommendations for managing marine resources on Panjang Island include sustainable tourism development. Environmentally based tourism development can serve as a solution for sustainably utilizing coral reefs and promoting improving coastal and fisheries management based on Marine Conservation Areas.

Abstract

Reef fishes are important components of a healthy coral ecosystem. However, when coral reefs are degraded, reef fishes also lose their habitat resulting in a decline in reef fish production and sustainable livelihood for the communities depending on it. In this study, we determined the status of reef fish communities in an artificial reef at PT Artha Cipta Langgeng in the Penyusuk waters of Bangka Regency, Indonesia. Data on reef fish communities were collected using the underwater visual census (UVC) method, including in situ and ex-situ environmental parameters. A total of 2,987 individuals belonging to 12 reef fish species and five families were recorded across three stations. The abundance of reef fish ranges from 45 to 60 ind/m², categorized as highly abundant. Diversity, evenness, and dominance indices were calculated at  1.18-1.49, 0.56-0.65, and 0.26 -0.36, respectively which are categorized as low to moderate. The environmental parameters in the artificial reef are still within the standard limit for a reef ecosystem. The study emphasizes the importance of artificial reefs as an alternative to a degraded coral reef ecosystem in supporting the thriving existence of reef fishes in the Penyusuk waters.

Abstract

Makrozoobenthos are all types of sedentary organisms or move freely whose habitat’s in the bottom substrate of waters with a body size of more than equal to 0.5 mm. Benthos have a very important role in waters where macrozoobenthos communities must remain balanced so that aquatic ecosystems are balanced. This study aims to determine the type of macrozoobenthos, the abundance of macrozoobenthos and the structure of macrozoobenthos communities on artificial reefs in Penyusuk Marine, Bangka Regency which was sunk by PT. Arta Cipta Langgeng. Data collection will be carried out in May 2023 at an artificial reef in Penyusuk Marine, Bangka Regency. The determination of the research location point was carried out by purposive sampling and macrozoobenthos data collection using road sampling techniques and free hand picking methods. Measurement of environmental parameters was carried out in situ and ex situ as well as data analysis using Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The results of the study found 32 types of macrozoobenthos with a total of 2,745 individuals found at the three observation stations. The abundance obtained ranged from 46,04 ind/m2 – 49,01 ind/m2. The diversity value ranges from 0,60 – 0,87 so that was categorized as low, the uniformity value ranges from 0,19 – 0,27 as low was categorized and the dominance value ranges from 0,72 – 0,82 was high categorized.

Abstract

Biota plays a role in reef coral is megabenthos . Megabenthos is a large benthic biota more of 1cm and has Power adaptation to condition environment . Benthic biota usually found at the bottom waters like ecosystem reef coral and fields seagrass . Waters Island Pongok own diversity biological abundant sea _ so that made source search society in general working as a fisherman with method netting, fishing and doing arrest with another way . Apart from that, some fisherman Still use tool catch those who don't friendly environment like use bomb and shoot For catching fish. Megabenthos data collection use method Benthos Belt Transect and reef data collection coral use method Underwater Photo Transect . Research results in Water Island Pongok 12 species were found of the 6 families found in the waters Island Pongok . Density value megabenthos found _ range between 0.007-1.257 ( ind /m²) which is dominated by species Diadem setosum with average value _ amounted to 0.688 ( ind /m²), whereas density Lowest is in the species Drupella cornus , Linckia multifora and Trochus niloticus with the average value density 0.002 ( ind /m²). Percentage cover reef coral live on the Island Pongok ranges between 28.67%-63.87% in Medium to Good category . Analysis results Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was obtained results density highest that is Correlated diadema _ with temperature with mark the correlation is 1,000 and temperature namely 0.825, next clams correlated with pH and value the correlation is 0.465 and pH 0.982. From these two biota categorized as correlated perfect with physical and chemical parameters waters. Connection density megabenthos with form growth reef coral density megabenthos highest at the location study is species Diadem sp . which is correlated tall with Dead Coral Algae (DCA) with mark  the correlation is 0.998. Density megabenthos Lowest is Correlated Drupella _  tall with Dead Coral Algae (DCA) with mark the correlation is 0.998, and Linckia multifora correlated  tall with Coral Foliose (CF) with mark the correlation is 0.925.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze coral reef cover and analyze coral reef health problems. This research was conducted in October 2023 in the waters of Pongok Island. Coral reef cover data collection using the method of Underwater Photo Transect (UPT) and data collection on the distribution of coral health disorders was taken using the belt transect method (belt transect). The results of the research showed that the percentage of coral reef cover in Pongok Island waters ranged from 28.67% - 63.87% which was categorized as Medium to Good. Coral reef health problems found at the research location in Pongok Island waters are Bleaching (B), Sedimentation damage (SD), Pigmentation response (PR), growth anomalies (GA), and crown of thorns starfish (CoTS). Sedimentation damage is the highest prevalence in the research location with 3.42%, then pigmentation response (PR) with a total of 0.48%, Crown of thorns starfish (CoTS) 0,05%, Bleaching (B) 0,04%, and Growth anomalies (GA) with an amount of 0.01%.

Abstract

    Artificial coral reefs are one of the efforts to rehabilitate resources and serve as a nursery area, providing a permanent new habitat for sessile biota and maintaining the balance of the food chain cycle. This study aims to identify the types of coral attached to artificial reefs and analyze the coral density value on artificial reefs in the waters of Penyusuk Belinyu, Bangka District. Data collection was conducted by counting the number of individuals of coral genera and their sizes visible through the visual census method. The corals found consist of 3 families and 3 genera of coral: the Subergorgiidae family with the Subergorgia genus, the Carijoidae family with the Carijoa genus, and the Faviidae family with the Favia genus, with a total of 136 individuals found in three observation stations. The coral density values ​​for the 3 stations range between; Subergorgia (0.104-0.677 ind/m2), Carijoa (0.677-1.563 ind/m2), and Favia (0.781-1.146 ind/m2). Environmental parameters affecting coral larval settlement include water flow rate, Total Suspended Solids (TSS), temperature, salinity, brightness, and pH.

Abstract

The identification of mangroves thriving around river estuaries is essential for managing natural resource potential in the Selindung Sub-Watershed. This study evaluates the mangrove resource potential and the livelihoods of crab trap fishermen in the Selindung Sub-Watershed, part of the Baturusa Watershed. Conducted from June to November 2024 in Pagarawan Village, Merawang District, Bangka Regency, this research employed a mixed-method approach, integrating qualitative and quantitative analyses, to identify mangrove species and assess the mangrove crab (Scylla spp.) fishery. The results revealed significant natural resource potential in the Selindung Sub-Watershed, encompassing 349 hectares of mangrove forests with dense canopy cover (≥80%), classified as high-quality habitat. Ten mangrove species were identified, including dominant taxa such as Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Rhizophora mucronata, and Sonneratia alba. The mangrove crab fishery represents a vital livelihood for local fishermen, who supply their catch to Fish Farming Groups (Pokdakan) for fattening purposes. The sustainability of this fishery is closely tied to the health of the mangrove ecosystem. To ensure the long-term preservation of mangroves and their associated resources, sustainable management policies are required, supported by adequate budget allocation, law enforcement, capacity building, equitable supply chain advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and community education. These measures are critical for fostering ecosystem resilience while supporting the socio-economic well-being of local communities.

Abstract

The Baronang fish (Siganus guttatus) is an economically valuable species commonly found in seagrass ecosystems, which serve as critical habitats providing food, spawning, and nursery grounds. This study, conducted from June to August 2024, aimed to examine the length-weight relationship, growth patterns, and the influence of environmental parameters on Baronang fish growth. Fish samples were collected using beach seines of various mesh sizes. The length-weight relationship in June followed the model W = 0.12L².19 (R² = 0.72), in July W = 1.07L⁰.34 (R² = 0.99), and in August W = 2.72L⁰.674 (R² = 0.94), indicating varying degrees of correlation across months. Growth analysis using the von Bertalanffy model showed an asymptotic length (L∞) of 154.00 mm and a growth coefficient (K) of 0.51/year. In August, the estimated L∞ was 19.95 cm, K = 1.01/year, and t₀ = 0.176. The fish reached a length of 88.97 mm in the first year and 150.95 mm by the sixth year, with growth slowing down after this period. Environmental parameter analysis revealed that temperature had a significant positive effect on fish weight (B = 14.664, p < 0.001), while salinity (B = -5.920, p = 0.005) and dissolved oxygen (DO) (B = -28.357, p = 0.001) had significant negative effects. These findings highlight the importance of environmental conditions in regulating the growth of Siganus guttatus in seagrass ecosystems.

Abstract

Land clearing for mining operations can potentially cause severe damage to coastal and marine environments. Restoration of post-mining areas can be addressed through closure and recovery efforts, particularly via coral reef rehabilitation. This study aims to determine site suitability for coral reef rehabilitation or marine reclamation in the waters of Tanjung Siangau. Conducted in August 2023, the study used a multi-parameter map overlay method to produce a suitability map for reef rehabilitation. Parameters considered include bathymetry, turbidity, current velocity, wave conditions, substrate type, reef exposure, protection status, proximity to coral donor sources, community involvement, and marine spatial zoning. Findings indicate that areas damaged by coastal and marine activities require reclamation, including coral rehabilitation. Reclamation of post-mining lands must adhere to Indonesian Law No. 3 of 2020 and the Mineral and Energy Resource Ministerial Regulation No. 26 of 2018. Overlay results revealed the highest suitability score in the southern waters of Tanjung Siangau, an area categorized as moderately damaged coral cover (<50%). Local community reports indicate that this area is not mined due to the absence of tin deposits. The recommended site for coral reef rehabilitation lies outside of any licensed mining concession and is situated within an Underwater Tourism Zone in accordance with the Coastal and Small Islands Zoning Plan (RZWP3K).

Abstract

Grouper fish is one _ source of Power ecosystem reef corals that have marked economic highs. The objective Study is to analyze the potency source of grouper fish power in Regency Kolaka. A study was conducted in Regency Kolaka, a coastal area, and eyed fishermen's livelihood as fisherman grouper fishermen. Study This is held for eight months, i.e. April - November 2022. Grouper fish in the waters of Regency Kolaka has experienced excess catch by 70%. Based on these data, effort management needs to be done immediately for the continuity of grouper fish resources in the waters.
