Abstract

Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated Fishing has brought Indonesia to a very disadvantaged condition from the economic and social aspects. IUU Fishing not only affects Indonesia, but it also to countries that have interests in Indonesia's maritime territory given that its activities are cross-border crimes. Indonesia has conducted various co-operations as an effort to deal with the issue of IUU Fishing. Through this research, the steps taken by Indonesia is to cooperate with Japan using several strategies. This research uses a qualitative method with library research to analyse the cooperative relationship between the two countries, and uses the conceptual framework of maritime security and international cooperation theory to deepen the understanding of the issue. Thenresearch results show several strategies of cooperation between Indonesia and Japan through information exchange in the forum (IJMF), grant aid, and the use of technology to deal with IUU Fishing in Indonesia. However, Indonesia and Japan must face challenges in implementing the cooperation strategies that have been implemented. This is due to geographical challenges due to Indonesia's vast maritime territory, the COVID-19 Pandemic and internal issues related to Indonesia's governance that add to the complexity of the problem.

Abstract

This article describes the United Nations Commission on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNCOPUOS), an international form of cooperation under the auspices of the United Nations that aims to establish rules for military operations in outer space to maintain world peace. The purpose of this article is to explain how international cooperation is seen from the perspective of Neoliberalism Institutionalism, which believes in the role of institutions as mediators in the formation of cooperation between countries in the international system. Using descriptive narrative method, this article demonstrates that UNCOPUOS, established in 1959, has created various forms of international treaty law that regulate the procedures of activities in outer space and are able to prevent anarchy in outer space activities which in reality are often dominated by large countries such as US, China, Russia, Japan and the European Union. In addition, UNCOPUOS is also actively campaigning for the potential of outer space for humanitarian benefit through the Space2030 Agenda, so it is important that peace in the region should be maintained in order to not endorse the egos and interests of particular entities.

The development of diplomatic relations between countries raises a new concept, namely gastrodiplomacy. This change was also adopted by the South Korean government, who used gastrodiplomation as one of the elements of Korean Wave through the Samyang Challenge trend. This study aims to see how the influence of the Samyang Challenge on the diplomacy process carried out by South Korea in Indonesia 2015 to 2017. Using the qualitative method and data reduction analysis, this study shows that this trend is sufficient to have a significant influence on South Korean diplomacy processes in Indonesia, although there are still further challenges, especially regarding product halal issues.

Abstract

Indonesia and Vietnam are both quite often heated because of the amount of illegal fishing by Vietnam in Indonesian waters. The lack of clarity on the territorial waters of the two countries has made their relationship a little heated even though they have previously signed a ratified agreement. This analysis aims to find out the real reason that Indonesia wants from its agreement with Vietnam. Judging from the existing data, it is true that Vietnam still often carries out illegal activities in Indonesian waters. This research uses analytical qualitative methods by looking at the driving and inhibiting factors, impacts and objectives of cooperation between Indonesia and Vietnam as well as what problems in the South China Sea border area are faced by Indonesia and Vietnam. Based on existing data, the results of the research clearly show that Vietnam still commits a lot of illegal actions every year and the bilateral meeting between Indonesia and Vietnam in 2022 is the reason for Indonesia to return to overcome this transnational crime problem.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to examine how Australia's domestic political turmoil produces foreign policy related to regional dynamics through the 2+2 meeting with Indonesia in 2023. The threat of AUKUS nuclear-powered submarines as a form of US and Chinese rivalry in the region attracted international attention. The US together with AUKUS tried to match China's strength in the Asia Pacific region. The following year Australia held a meeting with Indonesia to discuss regional dynamics. This research uses descriptive qualitative methodology based on social phenomena in the form of descriptive explanations. This research uses the Adaptive Model Foreign Policy Theory which argues that external and internal changes will affect Foreign Policy to adapt to these changes. In this study, researchers found that in addition to international pressure, there was political turmoil that caused Australia to change its foreign policy orientation, through defense cooperation with Indonesia.
