Abstract

This article explores the portrayal of psychological conflict in George Eliot’s “Middlemarch”, focusing on the inner struggles of key characters, particularly Dorothea Brooke and Tertius Lydgate. Eliot's detailed psychological realism presents the complexity of human emotion, moral dilemmas, and internal battles with social expectations. The narrative examines how personal ambitions clash with societal roles, creating a web of inner turmoil that affects each character’s decision-making and development. Through close textual analysis, the article demonstrates how Eliot's use of free indirect discourse and deep psychological insight shapes the narrative and enhances the reader’s understanding of the characters’ moral struggles. By exploring these internal conflicts, the article aims to shed light on how Eliot’s work reflects broader questions about human agency, responsibility, and self-understanding in a rapidly changing society.

Abstract

This article examines the shift from Bloom’s Taxonomy, a well-established model of cognitive skills, to Webb’s Depth of Knowledge (DOK), which focuses on the complexity of cognitive tasks. It provides an overview of both frameworks and discusses their roles in lesson planning and instructional design. While Bloom’s Taxonomy serves as a foundational tool for structuring learning objectives across levels of understanding, application, and creation, Webb’s DOK offers a more nuanced approach by emphasizing the depth of student engagement and cognitive rigor. Combined, these frameworks form a robust strategy for designing lessons that promote critical thinking and adaptability. By integrating Bloom’s Taxonomy with Webb’s DOK, educators can better align instructional goals with student outcomes, creating a progressive and comprehensive learning experience. This article also presents strategies for incorporating both frameworks into lesson planning, offering practical insights and examples for educators seeking to enhance student autonomy and engagement.

Abstract

Readers worldwide have been captured by the Gothic style in literature, which is characterized by themes of the supernatural, darkness, and mystery, and has resonated across various cultural contexts. Its components mirror universal human concerns through a distinctively dark lens, revealing deep-rooted cultural fears, moral dilemmas, and social anxieties. The underlying meanings of Gothic works are crucially revealed through linguistic analysis, which investigates language within its cultural context. Linguocultural perspectives offer more comprehensive interpretations of Gothic themes by examining language choices, cultural references, and symbolism, thereby revealing the ways in which they differ across cultures and time periods. In this review, we investigate the significance and cultural profundity of the Gothic style by examining the role of linguocultural analysis.

Abstract

Language is a dynamic, evolving process that reflects the ever-changing realities faced by its speakers. One of the key factors driving this linguistic evolution is the creation of neologisms—new words or expressions that emerge to fill gaps in language or express new concepts, often as a response to technological advancements, cultural shifts, and globalization. Neologisms not only enrich the vocabulary but also offer a rich point of analysis in linguistics, shedding light on societal and cultural contexts. They are formed through various processes such as borrowing, compounding, blending, and acronym creation, all of which reflect the interaction between linguistic mechanisms and the cultural environment. This paper explores the formation and implications of neologisms from both linguistic and cultural perspectives, with a particular focus on ecolinguistics and sociolinguistics. Historical examples, such as the Industrial Revolution and the Digital Era, illustrate the deep connection between language and social change. By examining neologisms, this study seeks to illuminate the role of language in adapting to societal transformations and how it serves as both a mirror and a driver of cultural evolution.
