Abstract

Financial technology (fintech) is reshaping banking by offering efficiency and accessibility, yet customer loyalty depends on balancing perceived benefits and risks. This study examines how fintech adoption influences loyalty through the mediating role of trust, with perceived benefit and perceived risk as antecedents. A quantitative survey of 150 Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) customers in Tangerang was analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). Results show that fintech adoption significantly increases perceived benefits, which positively affect trust, while perceived risk exerts a negative but insignificant influence. Trust does not directly predict loyalty but partially mediates the benefit–loyalty relationship. These findings highlight the benefit–risk trade-off in fintech adoption and underscore the importance of enhancing trust to sustain customer loyalty. The study contributes to fintech adoption theory and provides practical guidance for banks to improve customer experience while mitigating risks.

Abstract

This study uses a quantitative approach with a survey method. There were 180 respondents consisting of ACE Hardware customers before and after the rebranding to Az.ko. To select the sample, the researcher used non-probability sampling with purposive sampling, which is selecting respondents who meet the criteria of being at least 21 years old and have made purchases from both brands. Data was collected through an online questionnaire and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) with the assistance of SMART PLS 3 software. The analysis results indicate that rebranding and brand image do not have a significant impact on customer satisfaction. Marketing strategies were found to have a positive and significant impact on customer satisfaction. These findings suggest that effective marketing efforts following rebranding are more influential in enhancing customer satisfaction than changes to the brand or brand image itself.

Abstract

This study examines how elements of the marketing mix influence consumer decisions in photography services, with particular attention to the mediating role of branding and the moderating role of price. A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted with 230 users of Fannani Photo services, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a structured Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed with structural equation modeling to assess direct, mediating, and moderating effects. The findings reveal that product quality, branding, and price significantly shape service decisions, while visual promotion and service quality do not exert direct effects but influence branding, which in turn mediates the relationship between product quality and consumer choice. Moreover, price strengthens the effects of product quality and visual promotion, though not service quality, on decision-making. The study contributes theoretically by integrating branding and price into the marketing mix framework, providing clarity to inconsistent findings in prior research, and offers practical insights for creative MSMEs to enhance product quality, build consistent branding strategies, and leverage price as a competitive advantage in the digital marketplace.
ASEAN’s Role in the Formulation of the South China Sea Code of Conduct (CoC) and Its Implications for Regional stability Paul, John

Abstract

The South China Sea represents one of the most contested maritime spaces globally, characterised by its economic, strategic, and geopolitical significance. The region’s vast natural resources and function as a vital international trade route have made it a focal point of disputes involving several ASEAN member states and the People’s Republic of China (PRC). To mitigate tensions and promote peace, ASEAN has sought to develop a binding Code of Conduct (CoC), building on the 2002 Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DoC). This study employs a qualitative juridical-normative approach, utilizing literature review and descriptive-analytical methods to examine ASEAN’s role in the formulation of the CoC and its broader implications for regional security governance. Findings reveal that ASEAN plays a multifaceted role as a diplomatic mediator, normative forum, and integrative platform; however, divergent national interests hinder its effectiveness, China’s negotiation dominance, and external pressures from global powers, such as the United States. While the CoC offers significant potential to enhance trust, prevent conflict escalation, and reinforce the legal framework established by UNCLOS 1982, its effectiveness depends on ASEAN’s internal cohesion and the willingness of external actors to commit to binding agreements. This article concludes that a robust and legally binding CoC is crucial for strengthening ASEAN’s centrality and maintaining stability in the South China Sea.

Abstract

Southeast Asia has become a focal point for foreign direct investment (FDI) due to its robust economic growth, political stability, and the integration promoted by the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). However, investment across borders entails significant legal risks, particularly disputes between investors and host states arising from regulatory changes, expropriation, or discriminatory measures. To mitigate these risks, ASEAN member states rely on Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) mechanisms embedded in international treaties such as Bilateral Investment Treaties (BITs), the ASEAN Comprehensive Investment Agreement (ACIA), and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). This article employs a normative-legal methodology with a comparative approach to examine ISDS provisions across ASEAN jurisdictions. The findings reveal divergent national practices: Indonesia has limited its BIT commitments to safeguard its sovereignty, Singapore provides expansive protections for investors, while Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand adopt moderate stances that balance investor rights with domestic regulations. ISDS has proven effective in providing investors with neutral arbitration avenues, but it also raises challenges, including high arbitration costs, regulatory chill, and limited transparency. The study concludes that ASEAN requires harmonisation of investment frameworks, enhanced transparency, and the strengthening of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms to balance investor protection with state sovereignty

Abstract

The Rohingya refugee crisis has emerged as one of Southeast Asia’s most pressing humanitarian and legal challenges. Rooted in systemic persecution and statelessness in Myanmar, the plight of the Rohingya has led to large-scale forced displacement across the region. This article examines the legal obligations of ASEAN member states concerning refugee protection under international law, particularly the principle of non-refoulement, and evaluates ASEAN’s role as a regional organization in coordinating collective responsibility. Using a normative legal methodology, the study adopts statute, case, and conceptual approaches to analyze the gaps between international legal standards and ASEAN’s regional practices. Findings reveal that while most ASEAN states have not ratified the 1951 Refugee Convention and the 1967 Protocol, they remain bound by customary international law. ASEAN’s current response—largely humanitarian and short-term—falls short of establishing durable legal protection mechanisms. The article argues for the urgency of developing a regional refugee protection framework, modeled on the Comprehensive Plan of Action (CPA) for Vietnamese refugees in 1989, as a viable strategy to balance humanitarian imperatives with state sovereignty.

Abstract

Southeast Asia is one of the world’s most culturally diverse regions, encompassing multiple ethnic, linguistic, and religious groups. This diversity underscores the importance of embedding multicultural values in education to foster social cohesion and tolerance from an early age. This study employs a qualitative literature review to analyze how multicultural education is integrated into primary school curricula in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines. Findings indicate that while each nation has developed unique approaches, commonalities exist in the inclusion of multicultural principles within citizenship, language, and social studies subjects. Indonesia emphasizes Pancasila values, Malaysia promotes ethnic harmony through civic and moral education, Thailand stresses social stability and nationalism, and the Philippines prioritizes indigenous rights through the Indigenous Peoples Education (IPEd) program. Challenges include political differences, cultural majoritarianism, and limited acceptance of diversity issues. However, best practices—such as the Pancasila Student Profile in Indonesia and the IPEd program in the Philippines—serve as exemplary models for fostering inclusive and tolerant learning environments. The study concludes that developing regionally integrated multicultural education frameworks could enhance intercultural competence and strengthen ASEAN identity among young learners.

Abstract

The integration of Southeast Asia through ASEAN extends beyond politics and economics into education. A central instrument in this process is the ASEAN Curriculum Framework (ACF), introduced in 2012 to harmonize curricula across member states. This article examines the impact of the ACF on regional educational integration, focusing on policy dimensions, curriculum practices, and academic mobility. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed through a literature review of ASEAN official documents, UNESCO reports, and academic publications from 2012 to 2024. Findings indicate that the ACF contributes to curriculum harmonization, enhances 21st-century competencies, and strengthens ASEAN identity. Furthermore, the framework supports academic mobility via the ASEAN University Network (AUN) and the ASEAN Credit Transfer System (ACTS). Nevertheless, significant challenges persist, including disparities in educational quality, financial constraints, and inconsistencies in evaluation systems. The study concludes that the ACF holds considerable potential for advancing regional educational integration, but its success depends on strong political commitment, financial support, and readiness of national education infrastructures.

Abstract

Terrorism remains one of the most pressing threats to security and stability in Southeast Asia, given its transnational character that undermines both national sovereignty and regional peace. This study examines the framework of international legal cooperation in combating terrorism within the ASEAN region, focusing on the ASEAN Convention on Counter-Terrorism (ACCT) of 2007, relevant United Nations conventions, and bilateral as well as multilateral initiatives. Employing a juridical-normative method with a descriptive-analytical approach, the study draws on primary, secondary, and tertiary legal materials to assess the effectiveness and limitations of existing mechanisms. Findings indicate that while ASEAN member states have demonstrated commitment through ratifications and cooperative arrangements, significant challenges persist. These include divergences in national legal systems, sovereignty concerns hindering extradition, limited law enforcement capacity, and the increasing threat of digital radicalization. Despite these obstacles, ASEAN’s collaborative framework serves as a foundation for ongoing dialogue and practical action, highlighting the need for greater harmonization of legislation, enhanced intelligence sharing, and stronger regional as well as global partnerships. The study concludes that adaptive and integrated strategies are essential to strengthen counter-terrorism measures and safeguard long-term regional security.

Abstract

This study explores the integration of local cultural values into character education through an integrative literature review approach. Grounded in recent frameworks for educational and cultural studies, this research synthesizes findings from academic sources published between 2015 and 2024 to examine how indigenous wisdom strengthens moral and civic development in students. The analysis identifies three dominant models—Transmission, Participatory, and Transformative—each contributing distinctively to embedding cultural values in learning practices. The Transformative Model emerges as the most effective, fostering reflective, empathetic, and socially aware learners. Findings also highlight the crucial roles of educators, communities, and policymakers in ensuring that local wisdom becomes an intrinsic part of the educational process. Despite its potential, implementation challenges persist, including limited teacher competencies, insufficient cultural resources, and the erosion of traditional values amid globalization. The study recommends targeted teacher training, curriculum reform, and stronger collaboration with cultural stakeholders. By positioning local culture as the foundation of character education, Indonesia can cultivate globally competitive yet culturally grounded citizens who embody moral integrity and national identity. This integration aligns with the Merdeka Belajar initiative and contributes to the preservation of Indonesia’s diverse cultural heritage in the modern educational landscape.
