Abstract

Children with cancer face significant psychosocial challenges, including emotional distress, social isolation, and impaired self-awareness. These difficulties can impact their treatment adherence, quality of life, and long-term well-being. This study aimed to investigate the levels of self-awareness and social skills among children with cancer in West Sumatra, Indonesia, and explore supportive interventions for these children and their families. A cross-sectional quantitative study was conducted in March 2024 at Childhood Cancer Care West Sumatra. The sample comprised 63 children selected using Accidental Sampling Technique. Data on self-awareness and social skills were collected through validated instruments. The findings revealed that 50.8% of the children exhibited the highest level of self-awareness, while 60.3% demonstrated the highest level of social skills. These findings highlight the importance of addressing the psychosocial needs of children with cancer. Comprehensive support programs should be implemented to enhance their self-awareness, social skills, and emotional well-being. These programs should involve multidisciplinary teams, including psychologists, social workers, and child life specialists, to provide individualized support for children and their families.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease caused by metabolic disorders of the pancreas and is characterized by an increase in blood sugar>126 mg/dl. In 2023, the number of diabetes mellitus patients redeemed for drug prescriptions at the Pangkalbalam Health Center was 1,697 people. The study aimed to measure compliance with oral antidiabetic drugs in patients with diabetes mellitus at the Pangkalbalam Health Center in Pangkalpinang City in 2024. The method used was descriptive, observational, and quantitative, with a cross-sectional approach. This study used accidental sampling, with a total sample of 96 respondents. The research instrument was a questionnaire, and data were analyzed using the univariate method. The measurement tool was a questionnaire administered to patients with diabetes mellitus at the Pangkalbalam Health Center and analyzed using the univariate method. The compliance level with oral antidiabetic drugs at the Pangkalbalam Health Center, Pangkalpinang City, in 2024 was 59,4%, categorized as moderate compliance. The Community Health Center needs to provide a unique monitoring form for compliance with diabetes mellitus patients.

Abstract

Schizophrenia relapse after recovery remains a significant challenge, with multiple factors contributing to its occurrence. Understanding these factors is essential for their effective prevention and management. This narrative review aimed to identify and synthesize the factors contributing to relapse in patients with schizophrenia after recovery. A comprehensive literature search was conducted across PubMed, Scopus, and PsycINFO databases to identify relevant studies. The inclusion criteria were peer-reviewed articles in English, focusing on relapse factors among patients with schizophrenia. Data from the eligible studies were synthesized into thematic domains. A total of fifteen studies spanning diverse populations and designs were included. The key contributing factors identified were as follows: 1) Biological: Medication non-adherence, substance use, and neurobiological predispositions. 2) Psychological: High-stress levels, inadequate coping mechanisms, and comorbid mental health conditions. Limited social support, stigma, and dysfunctional family dynamics. 3) Environmental: Socioeconomic challenges and barriers to healthcare access. Trends have indicated gaps in understanding the interactions among these factors and the lack of culturally tailored interventions. These findings highlight the multifactorial nature of schizophrenia relapse, emphasizing the need for integrated, multidisciplinary approaches to prevention and intervention. Holistically addressing individual, familial, and systemic factors is crucial for reducing relapse rates. This review underscores the importance of tailored, patient-centered interventions and systemic policy changes to address the complex contributors to schizophrenia relapse, thereby improving patient outcomes.

Abstract

The demand for real-time, precise data in public health has driven the adoption of advanced tools like Epicollect5, a mobile and web-based application. Epicollect5 facilitates efficient data collection, management, and analysis, enabling healthcare professionals to address health challenges effectively. Integrating geospatial capabilities, offline functionality, and customizable survey tools supports diverse applications, including epidemiological studies, disease surveillance, and community health evaluations. Its open-source nature ensures accessibility in resource-limited settings, enhancing scalability and cost-effectiveness. However, challenges like limited technological access, data privacy concerns, and integration complexities persist. Epicollect5’s user-friendly interface, real-time data synchronization, and collaborative features have revolutionized health data management despite these hurdles. This editorial highlights its transformative role in public health, emphasizing its contributions to disease prevention and resource allocation. As digital health evolves, Epicollect5 exemplifies the potential of technology-driven solutions in shaping global health strategies.

Abstract

Work accidents are unexpected and unwanted events that can harm employees and companies. The production department has the highest risk of work accidents because it deals directly with machines and heavy equipment. This study aimed to determine the relationship between knowledge, attitudes, and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and work accidents in the production section of PT Cassia Co-Op, Sungai Penuh City. This type of research was analytic and observational, using a cross-sectional research design. The sampling technique was total sampling, with a total sample of workers. The researchers used questionnaires and observation sheets. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate analyses using the chi-square test. There was a significant relationship between knowledge (p-value = 0,001) and attitudes (p-value = 0,029) with work accidents, and there was no significant relationship between the use of PPE and work accidents (p-value 0.156).  Workplace agencies, such as PT Cassia Co-op, will likely employ K3 training to disrupt the causative chain of workplace accidents, which include harmful conditions, human errors, and unsafe acts.   Thus, accidents and damage can be avoided.
