Abstract

Banana pseudostem waste in Bangkiling Village, Banua Lawas District, Tabalong Regency, remains underutilized and is generally left to decompose after harvest. This community service program aimed to improve community knowledge and skills in processing banana pseudostem waste into liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) as an environmentally friendly alternative fertilizer. The activity was conducted on November 8, 2025, involving 15 farmers through counseling sessions, interactive discussions, and hands-on training in LOF production. Evaluation was carried out descriptively through observations of participant attendance, engagement in discussions, and their ability to perform the stages of LOF preparation. The results showed that 100% of participants attended and completed all training activities and were able to practice each stage of LOF production, from material preparation to the fermentation process. Participants were also able to explain the procedures for producing and applying LOF after the training. The program increased participants’ understanding of agricultural waste utilization and encouraged a shift in perception toward banana pseudostem waste, transforming it from a valueless by-product into a useful agricultural resource. Abstract

One solution that can be implemented to address feed management issues is through the provision of and training in the application of feed processing technology using a chopper machine. This program aims to equip Balinese cattle farmers with the knowledge and skills to process local feed ingredients efficiently and sustainably through the application of appropriate technology. Technical guidance on feed processing using a chopper machine was conducted by a team of lecturers from the Faculty of Animal Science at Halu Oleo University in October 2025 at the Longgida Bersatu Farmers’ Group, Watulondo Village, Puuwatu Subdistrict, Kendari City. Participants in the PKMI-UHO program included key stakeholders, such as 5 experts from the Faculty of Animal Science at Halu Oleo University (UHO) in Kendari, 15 farmers from the Longgida Bersatu Partner Group, 5 representatives from the Agricultural Extension Center (BPP), and several representatives from the Watulondo Village government. The implementation method utilized a participatory and practical approach, including an educational session on the importance of high-quality feed and hands-on field training covering equipment familiarization, machine chopper operation, feed material chopping, simple formulation, and feed storage techniques. The results of the activity show that the use of a chopper machine can save time, labor, and production costs. Farmers gained new knowledge and technical skills in feed processing, as well as an awareness of the importance of applying appropriate technology to improve business efficiency. Furthermore, this initiative strengthened cooperation and the self-reliance of livestock groups in managing their operations professionally. Consequently, the development of Bali cattle based on forage feed, facilitated by chopper machines, has taken place in Kendari City.

Abstract

Natsepa Beach is a leading tourist destination in Maluku, renowned for its natural beauty and rujak culinary delights. Research data shows that the average waste per visitor to Natsepa Beach is 0.12 kg per person per day, with organik waste amounting to 0.11 kg per person per day. With data on the number of daily visits in 2014 reaching 500-800 people on weekdays and more than 2,000 people during the holiday season, the potential for organic waste reaches 55-88 kg/day on weekdays and 220 kg/day during the holiday season. This waste has not been utilized so it has the potential to cause unpleasant odors and reduce the aesthetics of the tourist area. Therefore, community service was carried out with the aim of transferring knowledge and skills to the young men and women of the AMGPM Cabang Luther Negeri Suli to process rujak fruit waste into liquid organic fertilizer (LOF). The methods used were socialization of knowledge about LOF, practical training in making POC, mentoring, and evaluation in the form of pre-tests and post-tests for 16 participants who took part in the activity to determine their understanding of the knowledge provided. Abstract

The Rural Community Development program (Bina Desa) at Universitas Lambung Mangkurat is an implementation of the Integrated Learning Activity Mobility (MKBT) framework, an expansion of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) policy. This program aims to facilitate cross-disciplinary and international learning experiences, bridging the gap between theoretical academic discourse and empirical field practice to enhance students' global competitiveness. This study details a community service initiative conducted in Astambul District, focusing on rodent pest management through the application of "Letupan Empos Tikus" (LETI) technology, in collaboration with the Sinar Padi Farmers Group of Sungai Tuan Ilir. The primary objective was to provide students with experiential learning opportunities in applying specialized agricultural knowledge to address local community exigencies. The methodology employed a phased participatory approach, beginning with site surveys and problem identification regarding rodent infestations, followed by educational outreach, farmer empowerment, intensive mentoring, and systematic monitoring and evaluation. Results indicate high levels of engagement from the farming community. The dissemination of LETI technology was successfully executed with the strategic support of the Agricultural Extension Center (BPP) of Astambul, local Field Extension Officers (PPL), and Pest Observation Officers (POPT). The program yielded significant mutual benefits: enhancing students' practical competencies while providing the farming group with effective pest control solutions. Based on these outcomes, the institutionalization of this program on an annual basis is highly recommended to ensure sustainable agricultural development and academic integration.
