Abstract

TWA Pulau Pombo, designated as an ecotourism area, attracts numerous visitors due to its diverse natural and cultural attractions. However, the role of the local Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) has not been fully optimized. This community service program (PKM) aims to enhance the understanding of Pokdarwis members regarding the 3A components (Attraction, Amenity, Accessibility), Sapta Pesona, and tourism awareness. The program was implemented through a socialization approach using lectures and group discussions, accompanied by evaluation through pre-test and post-test methods. A total of 15 participants from the Pokdarwis of Tulehu Village took part in the activities and showed high enthusiasm during the sessions. The evaluation was conducted to measure participants’ level of understanding before and after the program. The results indicated a significant improvement in participants’ comprehension, as reflected in the increased post-test scores. Overall, the socialization program served as an essential platform to strengthen community understanding of tourism concepts, thereby fostering motivation and responsible participation in the sustainable development of TWA Pulau Pombo.

Abstract

Rice is a major staple food in Indonesia that often faces serious challenges from rice field rats (Rattus argentiventer), which can cause yield losses of up to 20–25%, and in severe cases, lead to crop failure. This community service program aimed to enhance farmers’ capacity in controlling rice field rats through a participatory education approach in Sido Mulyo Village, Tamban Catur Subdistrict, Kapuas Regency, Central Kalimantan. The program was conducted on August 19–20, 2024, using training, mentoring, and counseling methods involving farmers actively from planning to evaluation stages. The materials covered identification of rat species, symptoms of infestation at various rice growth stages, and environmentally friendly control techniques such as mass hunting, Trap Barrier System (TBS) installation, utilization of natural predators, and habitat sanitation. The results showed improved farmers’ knowledge and skills in mapping rat burrows, recognizing infestation symptoms, and implementing integrated and simultaneous control measures. The participatory approach also fostered awareness of the importance of collective action among farmers to ensure sustainable rice production. This program is expected to serve as a model for sustainable rat control in other rice-producing areas.

Abstract

Feed availability is a key factor in increasing beef cattle productivity. This activity aims to strengthen beef cattle feed availability strategies through a collaborative approach involving all relevant stakeholders in Muna Regency. This FGD activity was held in August 2025 in one of the beef cattle development centers in Kabangka District, Muna Regency. FGD participants consisted of various important elements, including the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Research and Innovation Agency (BRIDA) Team, the Halu Oleo University (UHO) Research Team, the Muna Regency Livestock and Animal Health Service (PKH) Team, the Kabangka Subdistrict Agricultural Extension Center (BPP), and local farmers. The data obtained from the FGD was analyzed using descriptive methods. The main strategies recommended are the application of feed processing technology, crop-livestock integration, increasing the capacity of livestock farmers, and protecting grazing land. Therefore, together with stakeholders in Muna Regency, it can become a driving force in developing the beef cattle industry in Muna Regency. The results obtained show that Muna Regency has great potential for beef cattle development, supported by its population and availability of land, natural resources, and feed from agricultural waste. However, this potential is constrained by low feed quality, traditional management systems, and limited knowledge and infrastructure among farmers. The main strategies recommended are the application of feed processing technology, crop-livestock integration, increasing the capacity of livestock farmers, and protecting grazing land. Therefore, together with stakeholders in Muna Regency, this can be a driving force in overseeing the development of beef cattle.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has resulted in an increased emphasis on students' academic literacy skills, particularly in the management of scientific references. However, preliminary observations suggest that 80% of students at Patompo University in Makassar are unfamiliar with reference management applications such as Mendeley and continue to use manual methods, which can potentially result in citation errors and plagiarism. A community service programme was implemented in the form of reference management training using Mendeley. The objective of this programme was to improve students' understanding, technical skills, and awareness of academic ethics. The implementation methods employed in this programme comprised lectures, question and answer sessions, simulations, and hands-on practice, with an emphasis on installation, metadata management, automatic citation, and bibliography compilation. Post-training reflections demonstrated that 90% of participating students experienced a significant increase in digital literacy, confidence in using the application, and commitment to its continued use. This finding indicates that practical training is an effective method for cultivating a culture of ethical and responsible scientific writing.

Abstract

The high and fluctuating cost of poultry feed has become a major constraint for smallholder farmers in Morome Village, Konda Subdistrict, South Konawe Regency. This condition undermines the sustainability of poultry farming and reduces farmers’ profit margins. One potential solution is the utilization of maggot (Hermetia illucens / Black Soldier Fly) meal as an alternative protein source that is environmentally friendly, economically viable, and can be locally produced from organic waste. This community service program aimed to enhance farmers’ knowledge and skills regarding maggot farming, processing into meal, and formulating alternative poultry feed. The implementation methods included participatory observation, interactive lectures through presentations, leaflets, and videos, followed by demonstrations and hands-on training on maggot farming and meal processing. The results showed that participants’ understanding of maggot as poultry feed increased, along with their technical skills in maggot cultivation and processing. Farmers also became more motivated to utilize organic waste as maggot rearing media. Strong enthusiasm was evident through active participation in practice sessions and group discussions. Therefore, this program successfully promoted the adoption of maggot-based alternative feed innovation, supporting both cost efficiency in poultry production and sustainable waste management.

Abstract

Banyu Urip Village, located in Tanjung Lago District, Banyuasin Regency, is one of the agricultural areas affected by tidal fluctuations. The unique hydrological conditions, influenced by the tides of the Musi and Banyuasin River Basins, cause high variations in groundwater levels and soil saturation. The dominant soil types in this area are soft clay and peat, which are classified as problematic soils due to their low bearing capacity and high compressibility. These characteristics often lead to damage to agricultural infrastructure such as irrigation channels, embankments, and retaining structures. This community service activity aimed to increase public understanding of appropriate retaining wall selection and construction methods for tidal rice field areas. The socialization involved educational sessions on soil characteristics, the function of retaining walls, and the use of locally available materials such as stone and gabions. The results showed an improvement in community knowledge and awareness regarding the importance of soil stability and the use of appropriate construction techniques to maintain agricultural productivity and infrastructure sustainability.
