Abstract

This article aims to narrate historically the social transformation and economic behavior of the Arab-Hadrami colony in Sumenep. Therefore, a socio-economic historical approach is employed in this research. The researcher engages in archival accuracy, synthesizing data, and presenting it within a historiographical framework. The study findings reveal that the formation of the Arab colony in Sumenep is attributed to the paternalistic relationship established between Arab-Hadrami traders and Sultan Abdurrahman. Socially and religiously based relationship facilitated the migration of Arab traders to Sumenep while also creating economic prosperity for them. However, following the Sultan's demise, the social ties between the Sumenep nobility and Arab traders began to diminish. Secondly, the colonial government's reorganization of Sumenep successfully opened up the island of Madura to the international market through the salt commodity.  On the other hand, the reorganization of Sumenep stimulated the mobility of Arab-Hadrami trade, opening up new economic spaces such as maritime trade and salt transportation for them, and establishing capitalist relationships between Arab-Hadrami traders and the Sumenep nobility through the credit system.

Abstract

The development of the Mamluk dynasty is not widely highlighted in the study of Islamic history, even though this dynasty played a role in Islamic historical civilization. This makes it urgent to carry out further research aimed at uncovering the development of the Mamluk Dynasty. This research method is descriptive qualitative research using literature study techniques. The findings show that in the development of the Mamluk Dynasty there were two main periods, namely the Mamluk Bahri and Mamluk Burji periods. Factors that supported the rise of the Mamluk dynasty were the ability to withstand attacks by Hulugu troops and the Crusaders, utilizing geographical factors to engage in international trade, and establishing good relations with European countries to increase wealth and reputation. Factors that caused the collapse of the Mamluk dynasty were internal conflicts such as competition for power, instability in government policies, economic problems such as corruption, economic crises and inflation. The weakening of the Mamluk Dynasty's power resulted in the loss of its territory so that it was controlled by the Ottoman Empire. In this case, the existence of the Mamluk dynasty is known to have had a significant impact on Islamic historical civilization, namely being the only dynasty that maintained Islamic culture when the Arabs declined and supported the progress of Islamic science. It is hoped that these findings can increase insight and understanding that the Mamluk Dynasty also played an important role in the history of Islamic civilization.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of museums in the publication of history, particularly in improving the quality of history education in Indonesia. History education museums function as both sources of information and learning media. As sources, they provide comprehensive historical knowledge, while as learning media, they facilitate the learning process through engaging methods, including the use of digital technology. Technologies such as social media, audiovisuals, and websites are utilized to expand the reach of historical publications. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, gathering data through literature reviews from various sources, including books, journal articles, and online data. The data were analyzed inductively to derive holistic conclusions. The findings reveal that digital technologies, such as social media and audiovisual platforms, significantly enhance public accessibility and engagement in history learning. Museums adopting participatory approaches, such as interactive exhibitions and co-creation programs, create deeper and more personalized learning experiences for visitors. Thus, museums play a strategic role in publishing history and increasing public understanding of cultural heritage, with technology serving as the main tool to broaden the reach and appeal of history education.
