Abstract

Pregnancy planning is an important factor in ensuring maternal and fetal health during pregnancy and reducing the risk of complications that can lead to maternal and infant mortality. This study aims to describe the level of public awareness in the Parang Banoa Environment, Parang Banoa Village, Pallangga District, Gowa Regency, regarding safe pregnancy and childbirth planning. The research method used is quantitative with a descriptive approach, data collection techniques in the form of questionnaires processed using the SPSS application. Respondents in this study consisted of 23 families who had pregnant women. The results showed that most respondents, namely 86.9%, planned their pregnancies well, which indicates a high level of awareness of the importance of pregnancy planning. In addition, 86.9% of pregnant women also planned to save for childbirth costs, indicating their financial readiness. However, awareness of planning prospective blood donors is still low, with only 43.5% of respondents planning prospective blood donors during childbirth. The results of the study showed that 100% of respondents had planned transportation for childbirth, with the majority choosing an ambulance or mobile health center car as a means of transportation. In terms of birth attendants, most respondents (73.91%) chose doctors as their birth attendants. Based on these findings, it is recommended that public education be increased regarding planning for prospective blood donors, financial literacy to save on birth costs, and choosing safe transportation. In addition, it is important to continue to strengthen understanding of the importance of choosing competent medical personnel as birth attendants to ensure the safety of the mother and baby during the birth process.

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic disease whose prevalence increases with age and significantly affects the quality of life among the elderly. Tulungagung Regency is one of the regions in East Java with a high number of hypertension cases among the elderly, with a prevalence of 35.62%. This study aimed to determine the factors that influence the quality of life of elderly people with hypertension in the Kauman Health Center working area. This research was an analytical observational study using a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of all elderly individuals with hypertension within the Kauman Health Center’s coverage area. The sample included 140 respondents selected using a simple random sampling technique. The instruments used were questionnaires on individual characteristics, the MMAS-8 for medication adherence, the HPLP-II for healthy lifestyle behaviors, and the WHOQOL-BREF for assessing quality of life. Data were collected through interviews and documentation, then analyzed using univariate and bivariate (chi-square test) methods. The results showed that 64.3% of elderly people with hypertension had a poor quality of life. Factors that had a significant relationship with the quality of life among hypertensive elderly were nutritional intake, physical activity, duration of illness, stress management, and the presence of comorbidities. These findings indicate the need for integrated interventions focusing on promoting healthy lifestyles, improving stress management, and monitoring comorbid conditions to enhance the quality of life in elderly individuals with hypertension. It is expected that this study can serve as a reference in the development of more effective primary health care programs for the elderly population

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a condition of elevated blood glucose levels due to impaired insulin secretion, insulin resistance, or both. This disease can lead to various serious complications that impact quality of life if not properly managed. Current diabetes management generally involves dietary modification, physical activity, and antidiabetic drug therapy. However, recent research has revealed the potential of bioactive compounds from natural sources such as curcumin in minimizing the risk of diabetes-related complications. This literature review examines and analyzes research evidence on the effects of curcumin supplementation on health parameters in patients with diabetes mellitus. The review was conducted on English-language publications in the last 10 years (2014-2024) using electronic databases. The reviewed experimental and cohort studies demonstrate the influence and beneficial effects of curcumin on glycemic control, lipid profile, weight reduction, and kidney function protection in diabetic patients. Curcumin has the potential to contribute to reducing oxidative stress and inflammation as the main triggering factors for complications of diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Background: The importance of hospitals in addressing maternal and infant health issues, particularly in reducing the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR). Objective: To describe the incidence of mortality in infants aged 0-11 months at RSUD Kabupaten Kediri during the first to third quarters of 2024.  Method: A descriptive study with a retrospective approach to 50 medical records of infant patients. Results: From 1,908 inpatient visits, there were 50 infant deaths. The characteristics of the deceased infants included a birth weight of 1,500-2,500 grams (46%), an age of 0-6 days (52%), a majority being male (56%), and originating from Pare District (27%). The leading diagnosis for mortality was Low Birth Weight (LBW) (36%), with the majority of mothers aged 20-35 years (74%). The IMR at RSUD Kabupaten Kediri during this period was 27 per 1,000 live births. Conclusion and Recommendations: In the first to third quarters of 2024, RSUD Kabupaten Kediri recorded 1,858 live births and 50 infant deaths aged 0-11 months, with an infant mortality rate of 27 per 1,000 live births, predominantly among infants with low birth weight, with the highest mortality occurring at 0-6 days of age, and most cases originating from Pare District. There is a need for monitoring high-risk infants, particularly those with LBW and male infants, as well as education for high-risk pregnant women during pregnancy, and routine calculation of infant mortality rates every quarter as a basis for decision-making.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the influence of knowledge and awareness on motorcycle riders' safety behavior (safety riding), particularly among online motorcycle taxi drivers. In the context of increasing traffic accidents, understanding the factors influencing riders' compliance with safety regulations is crucial. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method and was conducted from January to April 2025. A total of 15 relevant articles published between 2020 and 2025 were systematically reviewed from credible databases such as Google Scholar, CORE, and ScienceDirect. The analysis reveals that compliance with road safety regulations is influenced by both internal and external factors. Internal factors include the rider’s knowledge level, safety attitudes, age, and riding experience. External factors consist of law enforcement supervision, access to safety training, availability of protective gear, and social support from family and peers. Among these, knowledge and attitude are identified as the most influential aspects affecting safety compliance. Therefore, a comprehensive approach is needed, including continuous education, regular training, and collective awareness-raising to foster a safe riding culture. This study contributes to a better understanding of behavioral aspects related to road safety and serves as a foundation for the development of behavior-based transportation safety strategies
