Abstract

This study aims to compare the effectiveness of vlogging and role-play in developing different aspects of Thai learners’ English speaking skills. The research participants consisted of 76 university students enrolled in an English conversation course. Divided into 35 pairs, the students were engaged in two task types: five lesson units with role-play and five vlogging tasks. The results showed that both tasks significantly differed in their capacity to maximize each aspect of the speaking abilities assessed. Vlogging assignments appeared to boost clarity of the students’ language use the most compared to their interaction and content. Role-play, on the other hand, elicited their best performance in terms of content and interaction in social activities due to greater opportunities provided for producing and organizing turns with appropriate, meaningful expressions. Further studies should explore different ways to organize and implement each task to maximize its benefits for the development of EFL learners’ speaking skills.

In 2020, the world faced a new challenge. The coronavirus, which in a few days turned into a pandemic, completely changed human consciousness and lifestyle. The pandemic also affected the tourism sector, which led to some changes. In the conditions of the pandemic, the borders in China were closed, as a result of which Chinese citizens were restricted from traveling abroad. The closure of the borders prompted the development of domestic tourism in China. Most popular became Tourism trips to the mountainous regions. This article clearly discusses the problem of low education, which hinders the development of domestic tourism in China and the growth of economic income of the population living in tourist areas.

Abstract

Higher education institutions play a vital role in cultivating skilled professionals through activities like research and publications. Lecturers and students are expected to engage in these endeavors, with lecturer performance often gauged by regular publications. However, the demanding nature of research and publication activities can strain some universities and cause them to need more support. This survey aims to gain the answer why students and lecturers need a research-assisted unit and the necessity for a Publication and Research Assistance Unit in higher education, anticipating that such a unit would enhance the quality and quantity of research and publications by providing essential support to lecturers and students. This study uses a qualitative research method to process data using NVivo with four steps: Gathering information, coding, running queries, and reporting. The results show why the assisted research unit is essential.
