Abstract

Problems in orchid development are still quite limited due to the lack of availability of uniform seeds and the slow growth process of orchids, resulting in limited availability of orchid plant seeds. Subculture is the transfer of plants by in vitro culture from old media to new media with a specific purpose. One type of organic PGR used is bean sprout extract which contains auxin and cytokinin for the growth of plant seedlings. The objectives of this study are, (1) To obtain the best concentration of MS media at the growth stage of Dendrobium "Gradita" orchids, (2) To obtain the best concentration of bean sprout extract at the growth stage of Dendrobium "Gradita 31" orchids, (3) To determine the interaction between MS media and bean sprout extract at the growth stage of Dendrobium "Gradita 31" orchids, and (4) To obtain the best combination between MS media and bean sprout extract at the growth stage of Dendrobium "Gradita 31" orchids. The experiment will be conducted using a factorial Randomized Block Design (RAK). The first factor is the concentration of MS media, namely MS media ½ MS and full MS. The second factor is the concentration of bean sprout extract, namely 0 g.l-1, 100 g.l-1, 200 g.l-1, and 300 g.l-1. The research data were processed using analysis of variance, to see the differences between treatments, then continued with the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test at a level of 5%. The conclusions from the results of this study are (1) The best concentration of MS media use is at the level of concentration of bean sprout extract addition used in increasing seedling height, number of leaves, number of roots, root length, and seedling weight in the use of MS media. (2) The best concentration of bean sprout extract use is at the level of MS media use used in increasing seedling height, number of leaves, number of roots, root length, and seedling weight in the concentration of bean sprout extract 0 g.l-1 and 100 g.l-1. (3) There is an interaction between the combination of MS media and bean sprout extract on the increase in seedling height and seedling weight, and (4) There is the best combination of bean sprout extract, namely in ½ MS media with the addition of 0 g.1-1 bean sprout extract which results in an increase in seedling height, number of leaves, leaf length, and plant weight.

Abstract

Orchid propagation through in vitro techniques takes 9-12 months. Culture media plays a very important role in supporting the growth and development of explants. In addition to macro and micro nutrients, sugar, and vitamins, the use of plant growth regulators (PGRs) is needed to accelerate the growth of explants. The objectives of this study were: (a) to obtain the best BAP concentration for the growth of orchid seedlings, (b) to obtain the best NAA concentration for the growth of orchid seedlings, (c) to determine whether there is an interaction between the administration of BAP and NAA concentrations on the growth of orchid seedlings, and (d) to obtain the best combination of BAP and NAA concentrations for the growth of Dendrobium orchids. This study used a 2-factor Randomized Block Design. The first factor was BAP with levels of 1 mg.l-1 (B1), 2 mg.l-1 (B2), and 3 mg.l-1 (B3). While the second factor was NAA with levels of 1 mg.l-1 (N1), 2 mg.l-1 (N2), and 3 mg.l-1 (N3). Observation parameters include increase in seedling height, increase in number of leaves, increase in number of roots, shoot height, and number of shoots. Observation data were analyzed for variance and continued with BNJ test at 5% level. The results of this study indicate that: (a) the best BAP concentration on increasing seedling height, increasing number of leaves, and increasing number of roots is BAP 1 mg.l-1, while on the variable shoot height and number of shoots is BAP concentration 2 mg.l-1, (b) The best NAA concentration is 2 mg.l-1 on increasing seedling height, increasing number of leaves, and increasing number of roots, (c) there is an interaction between BAP and NAA concentrations on increasing seedling height, increasing number of leaves, and increasing number of roots, (d) the best combination of BAP and NAA concentrations is BAP 1 mg.l-1 with NAA 2 mg.l-1 on increasing seedling height, increasing number of leaves, and increasing number of roots.

Abstract

Excessive dependence on inorganic fertilizers in spinach cultivation may reduce soil quality; therefore, more environmentally friendly fertilization alternatives, such as biofertilizers, are needed. However, information on the effectiveness of Azotobacter and Rhizobium across different spinach varieties remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of biofertilizer type and variety on the growth and biomass of spinach. The experiment was conducted from February to July 2025 using a 2 × 4 factorial randomized complete block design with three replications. The first factor was biofertilizer type, consisting of Azotobacter (H1) and Rhizobium (H2), while the second factor was spinach variety, namely green spinach (V1), uproot spinach (V2), red spinach (V3), and batik spinach (V4). Observed variables included leaf number, plant height, leaf area, root length, plant fresh weight, root fresh weight, plant dry weight, and root dry weight. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test at the 5% level. Variety had a highly significant effect on almost all parameters, except root length. The interaction between biofertilizer and variety had a highly significant effect on leaf number, plant height, leaf area, plant dry weight, and root dry weight, and a significant effect on plant fresh weight and root fresh weight. The best shoot performance was obtained from H1V1, with 14.44 leaves, plant height of 26.94 cm, leaf area of 637.22 cm², and plant dry weight of 1.66 g, whereas the highest root fresh weight was recorded in H2V3 at 5.09 g.

Abstract

Brazilian spinach (Alternanthera sissoo) is a leafy vegetable with considerable potential for cultivation in urban farming systems. The effectiveness of Photosynthetic Bacteria (PSB) fertilizer is presumed to be influenced by the type of egg used as the fermentation substrate and the frequency of its application. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of egg type and PSB fertilizer application frequency on the growth and yield of Brazilian spinach. The experiment was conducted from February to March 2026 in the greenhouse of the Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Science, Universitas Ma’arif Nahdlatul Ulama Kebumen, using a two-factor Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four replications. The first factor was the type of egg used as the fermentation substrate, while the second factor was the frequency of PSB fertilizer application. Data were analyzed using two-way analysis of variance (Two-Way ANOVA), followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at the 5% significance level. The results showed that, individually, egg type and PSB fertilizer application frequency had no significant effects on plant height, number of leaves, root length, fresh weight, or dry weight. However, the interaction between the two factors significantly affected stem diameter increment. The combination of PSB produced using chicken eggs and applied every six days resulted in the greatest stem diameter increment, reaching 0.1250 mm. These findings indicate that the interaction between egg type and PSB application frequency has the potential to influence stem growth in Brazilian spinach.

Abstract

The limited domestic supply of lettuce has been unable to meet the increasing market demand. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of a 3% hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) concentration on the growth and yield of various lettuce varieties NFT hydroponic system. The experiment was conducted from December 2025 to January 2026 in Madukara, Banjarnegara, using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of three lettuce varieties with nine replications. Data were analyzed using JASP software, followed by Tukey's Honestly Significant Difference(HSD) test at the 5% significance level. The results showed that the application of a 3% H₂O₂ concentration had a significant effect (P < 0.05) on all measured parameters. The Romaine variety (V1) consistently showed superior performance in plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, root length, and produced the highest fresh weight(174.5 g) and dry weight (15.67 g). Meanwhile, the Butterhead variety (V3) recorded the greatest leaf width (91.61 mm). These findings indicate that the oxygen supplied by the 3% H₂O₂ concentration effectively enhanced root metabolism; however, overall productivity was largely determined by the genetic potential of each variety, with Romaine exhibiting the highest adaptability. Therefore, the application of a 3% H₂O₂ concentration in an NFThydroponic system can be recommended as an effective strategy to optimize commercial lettuce production, particularly for the Romaine variety.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal gully slope and evaluate the effect of different gully slope levels in a Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) hydroponic system on the growth and yield of white pakcoy (Brassica rapa L.). The study was conducted from February to March 2026 in Bantarwaru Village, Madukara District, Banjarnegara Regency. This study employed a single-factor Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with six replications. The treatments consisted of four gully slope levels: 1% (K1), 3% (K2), 5% (K3), and 7% (K4). The results showed that gully slope had a significant effect on plant height, stem diameter, root length, root weight, fresh weight, and dry weight, but had no significant effect on the number of leaves. The K3 treatment (5% slope) produced the best results for almost all growth and yield parameters, including plant height (26.067 cm), stem diameter (6.50 mm), root length (19.83 cm), root weight (14.57 g), fresh weight (173.00 g), and dry weight (40.26 g).

Abstract

The production of pakcoy (Brassica rapa L.) has declined due to improper fertilization practices and limitations in growing media. Soybean boiling water waste has the potential to pollute the environment; however, it can be utilized as a liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) because it contains essential nutrients. This study aimed to determine the growth and yield response of pakcoy plants and to identify the best combination of LOF concentration and growing media composition. The research was conducted from October to January 2026 in Banjarnegara using a factorial Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with two factors. The first factor was LOF concentration (P0, P1, P2, P3), and the second factor was the composition of growing media (M0, M1, M2, M3). Data were analyzed using ANOVA followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at 5%. The results showed a significant interaction (P < 0.05) on several parameters. The combination of P2M3 produced the highest shoot dry weight (26.45 g) and root length (22.17 cm), while the highest root fresh weight was observed in P2M1 (8.67 g). It can be concluded that soybean waste-based LOF at a moderate concentration combined with a higher proportion of cocopeat media enhances the growth and yield of pakcoy. This implies that soybean waste has strong potential as an environmentally friendly fertilizer for sustainable cultivation.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of tofu dregs compost on the growth and yield of pagoda mustard (Brassica narinosa L.). The experiment was conducted from February to May 2025 in Beji, Banjarmangu, Banjarnegara, Indonesia, using a non-factorial Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with five treatments and nine replications. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by the Honest Significant Difference (HSD) test at the 5% significance level. The results showed that tofu dregs compost significantly affected all measured growth and yield parameters of pagoda mustard. The application of 200 g of compost per plant produced the highest values for plant height (16.92 cm), number of leaves (19.06 leaves), leaf area (101.56 cm²), fresh weight (31.74 g), and dry weight (11.20 g), and these values were significantly higher than those obtained with the other treatments. The improved plant performance suggests that an adequate supply of organic matter and nutrients from tofu dregs compost promoted vegetative growth and biomass accumulation. Therefore, the application of 200 g of tofu dregs compost per plant can be recommended as an effective practice for enhancing the growth and yield of pagoda mustard.

Abstract

The agricultural sector is currently facing climate change as one of the foremost global challenges. Horticultural crops represent one of the agricultural subsectors most sensitive to such changes, particularly in terms of rainfall distribution, air temperature, water availability, relative humidity, and solar radiation intensity. The agroclimatological zone concept can be applied to determine the level of crop suitability relative to its growing environment, with the aim of stabilizing or even increasing crop productivity. One of the major horticultural crop centers in Lampung Province is South Lampung Regency. This study aims to (1) analysis the agroclimatological zones of South Lampung Regency over the past 16 years, (2) analysis the rainfall conditions and climate types in the South Lampung Regency area, and (3) analysis the suitability of agroclimatic zones in South Lampung for major horticultural commodities. The results of this study indicate that (1) shifts in agroclimatological zones have occurred in South Lampung Regency over the past 16 years, (2) South Lampung Regency shows a tendency toward increasingly arid conditions, as indicated by a climate type shift from C3 to D3, and (3) the South Lampung area remains suitable for the cultivation of primary horticultural commodities such as chili, eggplant, water spinach, and ginger, provided that planting and harvesting schedules are carefully aligned with the occurrence of wet and dry months.
