Abstract

Abstract Sugarcane is the main sugar-producing plant in the world and also plays an important role as a raw material for bioethanol production. Productivity improvement of the plant is exposed to environmental stress ie: water shortage which is currently a serious problem associated with the global climate change phenomenon. Understanding of plant responses to environmental stress is one of the keys to be able to resolve the issue. In this regard, the fundamental studies related to the sugarcane plant responses to water stress is very important. This study consists of a combination of two factors, namely the type of clones consisting of PS.864, PSJT.941, and VMC.76-16, 851 as tolerant group clones, PS.862, PS.882 and PS.851as non tolerant clones group and lack of water stress treatment for 5 days. The data were analyzed further using DNMRT at 5% significance level. Observations showed that tolerant clones as well as non-tolerant clones PS.862 showed better resistance response than non tolerant groups. The indication was shown by the value of the Relative Water Content (RWC), Specific leaf area (SLA) and Water Deficit Value (WDV). Total protein profiling of sugarcane grown under water deficit and its counterpart differentially distinguished by suppression of protein expression of about 35 kDa in all clones. While in the water deficit condition expression of a protein with a size of 25 kDa is remarkable expressed.

Abstract

Organic chili cultivation has become a necessity nowadays as awareness increases about the dangers of chemical residues used in conventional cultivation practices. Chili is one of three main of vegetables commodities in Lampung. However, pepper yellow leaf curl disease is still a major obstacle faced by farmers to increase chili productivity. Therefore, the aim of this research is to study the characteristics of symptoms and the incidence rate of pepper yellow leaf cull disease of Capsicum annuum L. and Capsicum frutescens in organic cultivation practice. The results shown that the characteristics or early symptoms of pepper yellow leaf curl disease on chilies are yellowing of young leaves, mosaic and malformation which are found in C. annuum L and C. frutescens. The intensity of disease attacks on chili plants by giving POC from the Mimosa pudica roots (PM) gave positive efect with an average low attack intensity in the 8th week, namely 32% compared to giving POC from bamboo roots (AB) with an average attack intensity 45.5%. This indicates that POC from the roots of Mimosa pudica (PM) is capable of being a bioprotectant for chili plants. The application of POC type 3 also provided a positive response with a low intensity of pepper yellow leaf curl disease on C. frutescens.

Abstract

Whiteflies are the main insect pests of Solanaceae plants, especially tomatoes. The need for tomatoes has not been met due to fluctuating production. Increasing tomato production to meet national needs can be done by controlling these two main insect pests. Control can be done using vegetable pesticides. These ingredients include tobacco leaves, citronella leaves, and Javanese chilies. This research was carried out in June - August 2024 at the Lampung State Polytechnic practicum area. The study used a randomized block design with 6 treatments and 4 replications. The six treatments consisted of six plant-based pesticide compositions based on tobacco leaves. The composition of the botanical pesticide made is A. 100% tobacco leaves, B. 50% tobacco leaves + 50% citronella leaves, C. 75% tobacco leaves + 25% citronella leaves, D. 50% tobacco leaves + 50% Javanese chili, E. 75% tobacco leaves + 25% Javanese chili, and F. 35% tobacco leaves + 35% citronella leaves, and 30% Javanese chili. The results obtained in this study were that all tobacco-based botanical pesticide treatments could reduce the whitefly population by 100%. No composition is most effective in suppressing whitefly populations on tomato plants.

Abstract

Plant growth promoting rhizobacter (PGPR) contains Rhizobacter which can fix free nitrogen found in nature, the nitrogen is converted into ammonia which is then distributed to plants. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of administering pgpr from two different bioactivator sources on the intensity of aphid attacks on chili plants. The experimental design used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) which consisted of two factors, namely the PGPR concentration of bamboo roots and mimosa roots, namely 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. Each treatment was repeated 3 times with each experimental unit consisting of 4 curly chili plants of the Thunder 99 variety. Applications were carried out once a week during the vegetative period. Observations began at 1 WAP and once a week with the observation variables being the type of aphids and the intensity of aphid attacks on each plant during the vegetative period. The results obtained by administering PGPR bamboo roots and putrimalu roots were less effective because they were unable to suppress the intensity of aphid attacks on chili plants. Intensity of aphid attacks not different than control. The level of intensity of aphid attacks is directly proportional to the aphid population. PGPR that can relatively reduce the intensity of aphid attacks is bamboo root treatment with a concentration of 75%. A better PGPR bioactivator comes from bamboo roots rather than mimosa roots.
