Abstract

This article examined the impact of international organizations on educational development in the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja, using FCT Basic Education as a case study. The study used a correlational type descriptive research design. The sample for this study consisted of 63 principals and 260 teachers. As of December 2023, the population included 99 school principals and 8,321 teachers in the district councils surveyed. The multi-stage procedure was used for the investigation. Using random sampling technique, three of the six area councils (Abaji, Gwagwalada and Bwari area councils in FCT) in the area were selected. In this study, the International Questionnaire (IQ) was used to collect information from both school principals and teachers. Three lecturers from the Department of Educational Management, University of Abuja and two specialists in educational research, measurement and evaluation determined the face validity and content of the instruments. The study used the test-retest method for reliability. The IQ yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.65 and 0.75 for IQ, respectively. Inferential and descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data for the study. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions, while the hypotheses were tested using simple regression analysis for the main hypothesis and Pearson product moment correlation statistics (PPMC) for the operational hypotheses. The hypotheses were confirmed at 05 levels of significance. The paper revealed that international organizations in the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja have contributed to the development of education (basic education) in FCT and it was also found that there is a significant relationship between international organizations and the development of education (basic education) in FCT, Abuja, Nigeria. Based on the findings of this study, the paper recommends that the Nigerian government should establish more diplomatic relations with more developed countries to attract more aid for the education system. Governments should establish a commission responsible for coordinating international organizations based in Nigeria to better manage their donations for the development of education.

Abstract

They assessed the impact of trekking on teachers’ job performance and students’ academic work in basic schools in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nigeria. The study employed survey research design. The population of this study comprises all the teachers and basic SIS students in all six area councils of FCT. The sample size of the study was made up of two hundred and seventy-eight (278) and three hundred students (300). The sample basic schools were selected using a random sampling technique. The research instrument used for data collection in this study is a researcher-designed questionnaire. Experts in educational management and English departments examined the instrument's face and content validity as well as its language appropriateness. A pilot study was conducted in basic schools not included in the study. In order to find out the reliability coefficient of the research instrument to be used. The frequency, percentages, mean, and standard deviation were used at a descriptive level. The study concluded that the disruption of curriculum implementation in the schools, the deterioration of teachers’ health, mental health, frustration, and low motivation and exhaustion, and texhaustion, developingtion, psychological problems, as well as the reduction in teachers’ job productivity and reduction in research hours of teachers, are the impacts of trekking on teachers’ job performance in basic education in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and late coming to class, reduction in hours of studies, and lower students’ performance, physical exhaustion, and mental health. Affect students’ health, diminish students ability to meet academic expectations, and compete effectively with peers, and frustration and low motivation to learn are the impact of trekking on students’ academic performance in basic education in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Based on the finding, the government, the study recommends that g should provide school buses to all basic schools in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nigeria, to aid teachers’ and students’ movement to schools. Private institutions and community members can also donate school buses to schools. The government should build more basic schools across the territory to allow students access to schools closer to their homes. This will help to reduce students’ trekking to schools in the territory.

Abstract

The study examined how capacity building affected the work performance of PBECD (Post-Basic Education and Career Development) principals and teachers in the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja, Nigeria. For this investigation, a descriptive survey research design was utilized. Principals and teachers at public Post-Basic Education and Career Development (PBECD) schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Abuja, Nigeria, made up the study's population. 120 teachers and 36 principals make up the study's sample size. Purposive and random sampling strategies were employed in the research. For this study, a structured questionnaire was the tool used to collect data. At the University of Abuja, specialists from the Department of Educational Management verified the instruments. To ascertain the reliability coefficient, the test-retest approach was employed. In FCT, the study found a positive correlation between capacity building, the work performance of principals, and the work performance of teachers in PBECD. Building capacity supports PBECD teachers' job performance and facilitates efficient school administration. The study suggests that in order to support an efficient capacity building program for school principals and teachers in the PBECD program, the government should enhance funding for PBECD in the Federal Capital Territory.

Abstract

This study explored the impact of online gaming addiction on adolescents' mental health in the Kathmandu Valley. With the advent of accessible gaming platforms, there was increasing concern about their potential negative effects. Using a cross-sectional, descriptive, and causal-comparative research design, data were collected from 207 students across four colleges through structured questionnaires. The study aimed to assess adolescents' perceptions of online gaming, investigate the relationship between gaming addiction and mental health, and examine its impacts on depression, anxiety, and loneliness. The findings revealed a significant correlation between online gaming addiction and adverse mental health outcomes among adolescents. Increased gaming addiction was associated with higher levels of depression, anxiety, and loneliness. The study highlighted the detrimental effects of excessive gaming on social relationships, academic performance, and overall well-being. This research addressed a critical gap by focusing on the Kathmandu Valley, providing new insights into the localized effects of gaming addiction and underscoring the need for targeted interventions and preventive measures to support adolescent mental health.

Abstract

The development of a Student Worksheet (LKPD) assisted by PhET Simulation was motivated by the lack of practical equipment in school laboratories. This research aims to develop a Student Worksheet (LKPD) assisted by PhET Simulation on the subject of Sound Waves for Grade XI of Senior High School/Madrasah Aliyah (SMA/MA). The type of research used in this study is Research and Development (R&D) with a 4D development model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate). During the development stage, the draft LKPD was described in terms of its feasibility and practicality. The feasibility data of the developed LKPD was obtained from the validation results by four experts consisting of two subject matter experts and two media experts using a questionnaire instrument. The practicality data of the LKPD was obtained from the responses of students and teachers to the use of the LKPD using a questionnaire instrument. The research involved 15 students in a limited trial. The results of this study indicate that the average score for the material aspect was categorized as "Very Feasible," and the media aspect was categorized as "Feasible." The data on students' responses to the LKPD was categorized as "Very Practical." The teachers' responses to the LKPD were categorized as "Very Practical." The conclusion of this study is that the LKPD assisted by PhET Simulation is Feasible and Very Practical for learning.
