Abstract

Climate change is one of the challenges in corn farming because it causes uncertainty in planting seasons, production fluctuations, and changes in selling prices that influence farmers' decisions in determining the sales system of their harvest. This study aims to analyze the impact of climate change on farmers' decision-making in corn sales systems, changes in corn production and selling prices, and factors that influence farmers' decisions in determining sales systems in the 2nd and 3rd planting seasons. The study was conducted at the Rambutan Jaya Farmers Group, Bangsalsari District, Jember Regency, using descriptive and analytical methods with a multinomial logistic regression approach. The research sample was determined by purposive sampling of 44 corn farmers. The results showed that the sales system of corn kernels was the main choice of farmers, amounting to 77.27% in the 2nd planting season and increasing to 84.09% in the 3rd planting season because it is more practical, accelerates income receipts, and reduces post-harvest risks. Average corn production increased from 4.7 tons to 6.0 tons, while the selling price increased from Rp2,945/kg to Rp3,386/kg. The results of the multinomial logistic regression analysis indicate that climate variables significantly influenced farmers' decisions in the third planting season, while selling price did not. This study demonstrates that farmers' decisions regarding sales systems are influenced not only by climate conditions and selling prices, but also by considerations of efficiency, ease of marketing, and efforts to minimize risk.

Abstract

Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) is one of the leading plantation commodities that makes a significant contribution to the local economy, including in South Nias Regency. This paper was prepared to conduct a descriptive analysis of the oil palm cultivation techniques applied by local farmers at the Kilometer 7 Plantation in Bawofanayama Village, Fanayama Subdistrict, and to assess their compliance with the principles of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) as stipulated in Ministry of Agriculture Regulation No. 131/Permentan/OT. 140/12/2013. The study was conducted using a qualitative descriptive approach, employing participatory observation, in-depth interviews with farmers, and field documentation during the Integrated Field Study program. The results of the study show that farmers apply a number of technical practices characteristic of smallholder plantations, including planting using a soil mound system without planting holes, an equilateral triangle planting pattern spaced 9 × 9 meters apart, fertilization using the drip irrigation technique, the use of pruned palm fronds as mulch, the use of swiftlet droppings and coconut shell charcoal as soil conditioners, and natural pest control using a saltwater solution. Although most cultivation stages were in line with technical recommendations, challenges were also identified, such as suboptimal drainage systems, inconsistent frond pruning, and labor constraints because plantation management still relies primarily on family labor. This study is expected to serve as a reference for the development of more productive and sustainable smallholder oil palm cultivation, particularly in the South Nias region, where scientific research on this topic has been limited to date.

Abstract

Maba bananas (Musa spp.), locally known as tele mobon, are a unique banana variety from East Halmahera Regency. They are becoming increasingly difficult to find and are at risk of local extinction due to limited cultivation efforts and scientific documentation. This study aims to identify the geographic distribution, population size, and cultivation status of Maba bananas in the region. Methods: The study was conducted over three months (July-September) in five sub-districts and 11 villages in East Halmahera Regency. A descriptive, qualitative, and quantitative approach was used, with respondents determined through snowball sampling. Data were collected through direct field observation and interviews with key informants. Results: The study showed that Maba bananas are distributed in lowland ecosystems at elevations between 7 and 97 meters above sea level. A total population of 148 individuals was identified, growing in 36 clumps. The highest population was found in Pekaulang Village (25 individuals), while the lowest population was in Titipa Village (4 individuals). Based on growth phase, the population was predominantly vegetative (145 individuals), with only three individuals in the generative phase. Most of these bananas are grown through community cultivation, but some clumps grow wild without regular maintenance.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the challenges of human resource management in government agencies, particularly related to discipline and career development optimization, which directly impact organizational performance. The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of work discipline and career development on employee performance at the Ternate City Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUPR) Department, both partially and simultaneously. The method used was a quantitative approach with a multiple linear regression analysis model using SPSS software. The study population consisted of 115 employees, and data collection was conducted through questionnaires. The results showed that partially, work discipline had a positive and significant effect on employee performance (t-test 3.698; sig. 0.000). Similarly, career development had a positive and significant effect on performance (t-test 9.560; sig. 0.000). Simultaneously, these two variables play a significant role in increasing organizational effectiveness. The study's conclusion confirms that the better the level of discipline and career development programs implemented, the higher the resulting performance. It is recommended that agencies continue to improve disciplinary oversight and transparency in promotions to maintain positive employee performance trends.

Abstract

Morotai Island Regency, located in North Maluku Province, has significant forest resource potential. Forests in this region serve not only as raw material providers but also as ecosystem buffers vital to the livelihoods of local communities. Village Forest Management Institutions (LPHD) are expected to play a key role in sustainable forest resource management to support the development of Special Economic Zones (SEZs). The purpose of this study is to analyze the challenges faced by Village Forest Management Institutions (LPHDs) in Morotai Island Regency and to identify strategies for sustainable development of Village Forest Management Institutions (LPHDs) in Morotai Island Regency. This research method uses a mixed qualitative and quantitative approach. The results indicate that LPHDs in Morotai Island Regency have significant potential to support the Morotai SEZ, both in terms of natural resource management and economic empowerment.
