Abstract

. Malnutrition rates among children remain quite high, according to 2024 national statistics, which indicate that good eating habits in accordance with balanced nutritional needs are not yet ideal. Children's eating habits, dietary diversity, and parental understanding all impact their nutritional status. To promote optimal growth and development in children, it is crucial to monitor and establish appropriate eating habits from an early age. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between eating habits and nutritional status of preschool-aged children. This study used a cross-sectional analytical design and quantitative methodology. Purposeful sampling was used to select a sample of 33 children from the 50 children in the study population. The study was conducted between September 22 and October 1, 2025. A Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) was used to examine dietary patterns, while nutritional status was measured through weighing using a digital scale. Based on the findings, 22 children (66.7%) had a healthy diet, while 11 children (33.3%) had a poor diet. The Chi-Square statistical test showed a p value of 0.008 (p < 0.05), indicating a relationship between eating habits and nutritional status in preschool children at Taman Annisa Miruek Kindergarten, Aceh Besar Regency. According to balanced nutrition guidelines, parents should regularly assess their children's growth and focus more on the diversity and balance of their food intake. To improve children's nutritional status as much as possible, schools are required to collaborate with health workers to educate parents and children about nutrition.

Abstract

Gout arthritis, or often called gout, is a type of arthritis caused by the accumulation of uric acid crystals in the joints and surrounding tissues. Arthritis itself is a term used to describe inflammation of the joints. The process of gout begins with an increase in uric acid levels in the blood, called hyperuricemia. Gout arthritis sufferers in the world affect approximately 10% to 25% of the world's population, the WHO prevalence of gout arthritis in the world is 34.2%. The type of research used in this study is quantitative research using a quasi-experimental research method, namely the pre-posttest control one group design method. This study is a study conducted on 1 group using an intervention without a comparison. This study has been conducted with a total of 20 elderly people who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria. It is known that the Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.00 is greater than 0.05. then there is a significant difference between the results before and after the warm cinnamon water compress. So it can be concluded that there is an effect of warm cinnamon compresses (Cinnamomun Burmannii) on gout arthritis in the elderly at the Sei Pancur Community Health Center.

Abstract

Hydrocephalus is defined as active distension of the brain’s ventricular system, resulting from inadequate flow of cerebrospinal fluid from its site of production to its site of absorption into the systemic circulation. Hydrocephalus can affect anyone at any age; pediatric hydrocephalus affects 1 in 1,000 live births and is the most common cause of brain surgery in young patients. Hydrocephalus is a pathological condition characterized by abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) due to increased production, impaired flow, or reduced absorption. Ventricular enlargement occurs in response to increased CSF volume and can lead to structural damage to the brain parenchyma. This condition can be congenital or acquired. One key point in prenatal diagnosis is the differentiation between fetal hydrocephalus and non-hypertensive ventriculomegaly. The former qualifies for intrauterine treatment with good outcomes. However, the latter can result in either favorable or catastrophic outcomes due to a damaging etiology, as seen in viral infections such as Zika virus. For an accurate diagnosis, fetal MRI is performed to detect brain anomalies, in addition to fetal ultrasound (to detect common complications), karyotype testing, and TORCH testing (toxoplasma, rubella, cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex). Obstetric management of fetal hydrocephalus depends on the gestational age at diagnosis and the presence of other anomalies. Treatment options include termination of pregnancy before the fetus is viable, placement of a ventriculoamniotic shunt, cephalocentesis before delivery, and/or cesarean section.

Abstract

Typhoid fever is a febrile illness that commonly occurs in urban areas with poor sanitation. It is usually caused by the consumption of untreated water and contaminated food. Because the S. typhi bacterium can survive in water for days, contamination of surface water—such as wastewater, freshwater, and groundwater—serves as the primary cause of typhoid fever. The patient presented to the Emergency Department of Cut Meutia General Hospital with complaints of high fever for approximately 4 days prior to admission, which had worsened over the past 2 days. The fever fluctuated and was accompanied by chills. It worsened at night and was not influenced by weather or temperature. These symptoms were accompanied by vomiting every time the patient tried to eat, nausea, abdominal pain, headache, and weakness. The patient reported vomiting the contents of their meal every time they ate, leading to a loss of appetite. These symptoms began when the patient first developed a fever. The patient also experienced abdominal pain. Spontaneous bleeding was denied. On physical examination, the patient appeared weak but was alert and oriented. On neck examination, palpable enlargement of the thyroid glands was found on the right and left sides of the neck, measuring 2x2 cm, mobile, and soft. On abdominal examination, increased bowel sounds were noted. Vital signs were normal except for the patient’s febrile temperature. Laboratory tests revealed a Tubex blood test result of scale 4 and a positive dengue IgG serology result.

Abstract

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a daily disease seen in rheumatology clinics. It predominantly involves the appendicular skeleton. The axial skeleton is mostly spared except for the cervical spine where instability can occur and can be carefully assessed with cervical spine radiographs in flexion and extension. Radiographs may show erosion at the C1-C2 level with destruction of the transverse ligament that can result in atlantoaxial subluxation. Diagnosis is based on clinical, laboratory, and radiographic findings. Conventional radiography has been the mainstay for diagnosis of joint damage and subsequent follow-up. Radiography can provide only indirect information on synovial inflammation, however, and the technique is insensitive to early bone damage. Hand radiographs are frequently ordered as the first imaging modality in the assessment of patients presenting with peripheral arthritis. They can provide invaluable information about the bones, joints, mineralization, soft tissues and the distribution of abnormalities. Given the wide spectrum of rheumatic diseases, it might be challenging to make the diagnosis solely based on the clinical findings and imaging plays an important role in narrowing the differential diagnosis. Having the knowledge of the common radiographic manifestations of inflammatory arthritis is of paramount importance for clinicians and radiologists to diagnose the underlying disease in early stages of disease in order to start treatment. The purpose of the article is to review the key radiographic findings of common rheumatic diseases in the hands.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the changes occurring in the epidermal cells of Rhoeo discolor before and after plasmolysis and to analyze the factors influencing the occurrence of plasmolysis. Observations were conducted by applying water and NaCl solution to the leaf epidermal cells. The results showed that cells treated with water became swollen, with tightly arranged purple-colored cells, whereas cells treated with NaCl solution underwent plasmolysis, characterized by cell shrinkage due to the loss of turgor pressure. This condition occurred because the hypertonic environment caused water to move out of the cells. In addition, this study analyzed the relationship between the transpiration rate and the number of stomata through observations of the lower leaf epidermis. The analysis revealed a relationship between the transpiration rate and the number of stomata in Rhoeo discolor, which was influenced by environmental conditions such as dry, shaded, and humid environments. Therefore, Rhoeo discolor exhibits physiological and anatomical adaptations to its environment, making it potentially useful as a learning resource and as an ornamental plant that can be cultivated under various environmental conditions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the structure and function of red onion (Allium cepa) epidermal cells in Cell Biology learning. The method used in this observation is microscopic on thin slices of red onion epidermal cells stained with Methylene Blue dye to increase contrast and clarify the structure of Allium cepa cells in red onions. Furthermore, this observation was carried out to identify the morphological characteristics and functions of Allium cepa cells. The results of the observation show that red onion epidermal cells have a polygonal shape with clear and regular cell walls. The visible cell structure includes transparent cytoplasm, a nucleus (cell nucleus) located in the center. In addition, stomata are seen in several epidermal cells, which function as gas exchange channels, important for the process of photosynthesis and respiration. The conclusion of this study is that understanding the structure and function of red onion (Allium cepa) epidermal cells is very relevant in Cell Biology learning, because these cells are good examples to illustrate the basic principles that apply in plant cells. This study also provides insight into the interaction between cells and the external environment, as well as the importance of the role of cells in supporting plant life.

Abstract

Stomata are microscopic pores located on the surface of leaves that play a significant role in plant physiological processes, particularly photosynthesis and transpiration. These structures regulate the exchange of gases between plants and the surrounding environment, thereby supporting plant growth and survival. This study aims to analyze the role of stomata in the gas exchange process of Rhoeo discolor using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. The review process involved identifying, selecting, evaluating, and synthesizing various scientific articles related to stomatal structure, function, and physiological mechanisms in plants. Relevant literature was collected from scientific journals discussing stomata and plant physiological activities. The findings of the review indicate that stomata in Rhoeo discolor function as the primary regulators of carbon dioxide (CO₂) uptake and oxygen (O₂) release during photosynthesis. In addition, stomata are responsible for controlling water vapor loss through the transpiration process, which is essential for maintaining water balance within the plant. The opening and closing mechanisms of stomata are influenced by several internal and external factors, including light intensity, temperature, water availability, humidity, and atmospheric CO₂ concentration. These factors affect guard cell activity, which determines stomatal movement. Furthermore, stomata contribute to maintaining physiological stability and optimizing metabolic processes in plants. Based on the reviewed literature, it can be concluded that stomata play a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency of gas exchange and supporting the overall physiological performance of Rhoeo discolor plants.

Abstract

Cyanobacteria are photosynthetic prokaryotes commonly found in rice paddy ecosystems. They play a crucial role in the nitrogen cycle and help maintain the balance of agricultural ecosystems. This study aims to analyze the cell structure of cyanobacteria found in rice field water in Karanganyar Regency based on microscopic observations without using any staining treatments. Water samples were taken from a rice field in Karanganyar Regency during the active planting season. The observation was carried out using a light microscope with the wet mount method, without staining, to keep the cells in their natural condition. The observed parameters include the shape of the cells, the size of the cells, the arrangement of filaments or colonies, and other morphological characteristics that can be seen directly under a microscope. The observation results show that there are differences in the cell structure of cyanobacteria in the rice field water samples, reflecting the variety of cell shapes in that aquatic environment. This research aims to provide an initial overview of the structural characteristics of cyanobacteria cells in the rice field ecosystem of Karanganyar Regency. This will serve as a foundational reference for further studies in agricultural microbiology.
