Abstract

Family health is a fundamental component of public health development, as the family represents the smallest social unit shaping individual health behaviors. This study aimed to analyze the family health conditions of the community in Pulau Jambu Village, Kampar District, based on demographic, behavioral, socioeconomic, and environmental factors. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed with a total sample of 153 respondents selected using random sampling, ensuring equal probability for each population member to be included. The results indicated that most respondents were in the productive age group of 19–60 years (68.8%), with farming as the dominant occupation (47.1%). The majority relied on borehole wells as their water source (61.4%); however, 47.1% had septic tank distances ≤10 meters, posing potential risks of water contamination. Regular physical activity was reported by 60.8% of respondents, yet the prevalence of smoking was very high (78.4%). Most respondents had a junior high school education (45.1%), influencing health literacy levels, although 58.2% demonstrated good knowledge of clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS). Health service utilization was relatively high (86.3%), though some residents still practiced traditional treatment. In conclusion, family health conditions are influenced by a combination of behavioral, environmental sanitation, and socioeconomic factors. Strengthening family-based health interventions through PHBS education, smoking control, and environmental sanitation improvement is essential to enhance sustainable community health status.

Abstract

Excessive smartphone use among adolescents, especially students, can develop into smartphone addiction and potentially disrupt learning concentration. At SMP Negeri 11 Jambi City, most students use smartphones for long periods for entertainment and social media until late at night, which leads to drowsiness and reduced focus during lessons. This study employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The population consisted of all seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 11 Jambi City, totaling 352 students, with a sample of 175 respondents selected through stratified proportionate random sampling. Data were collected using the Smartphone Addiction Scale–Short Version (SAS-SV) questionnaire and a learning concentration questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate methods with Kendall’s tau-b test. The results showed that 84% of respondents experienced smartphone addiction, while 61.7% had a good level of learning concentration. Kendall’s tau-b test indicated a significant relationship between smartphone addiction and learning concentration (p-value = 0.000; r = 0.243), showing a weak association. Higher levels of smartphone addiction were linked to decreased learning concentration. Therefore, active involvement from schools and parents is needed to guide adolescents in managing stress and boredom positively.

Abstract

Hospitalization is a condition that requires a child to be admitted to the hospital. This situation causes children to experience anxiety, restlessness, and fear. One of the nursing interventions to reduce anxiety due to hospitalization is play therapy. A form of play therapy appropriate for preschool children is puzzle play therapy. Puzzle play therapy is an activity in which children arrange pieces of pictures or specific shapes to form a complete image. This therapy encourages children to develop patience, stimulates concentration, and provides feelings of comfort and enjoyment, thereby reducing anxiety. The method used in preparing this Final Nursing Scientific Paper was a descriptive case study with the implementation of puzzle play therapy. The respondents consisted of three children experiencing anxiety due to hospitalization. Puzzle play materials and the Facial Image Scale (FIS) were used as measurement tools. The intervention was conducted over three consecutive days, with a duration of 15 minutes per session. The results showed a decrease in anxiety levels after puzzle play therapy: respondent 1 decreased from anxiety scale 5 to scale 1, respondent 2 from scale 4 to scale 1, and respondent 3 from scale 5 to scale 1. It can be concluded that puzzle play therapy is effective in reducing anxiety due to hospitalization in preschool children with dengue hemorrhagic fever. The implementation of puzzle play therapy is expected to become a routine nursing intervention to reduce hospitalization-related anxiety in preschool children with dengue hemorrhagic fever.

Abstract

Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in pregnant women remains a health problem in Indonesia, including in Sleman District. CED can be overcome through the provision of supplementary foods (PMT) based on local foods that are high in energy and protein. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of local PMT on upper arm circumference (UAC) in pregnant women with CED. The study design used an analytical observational approach with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used in this study was total sampling, involving 47 pregnant women with CEM who received local PMT for at least 90 days in 2024 at the Cangkringan and Sleman Community Health Centers. The secondary data in this study were the results of LILA measurements before and after the provision of local PMT. The Wilcoxon Signed Test was used to analyze the difference in LILA. The results showed that the median LILA before PMT administration was 22 cm and after PMT administration was 23.6 cm, with an increase of 1.6 cm. There was a significant difference between LILA before and after local PMT administration (p = 0.000). After local PMT administration, 51.06% of pregnant women had LILA > 23.5 cm. It is hoped that further research can explore the intake of pregnant women with KEK during local PMT administration as additional data to examine the effectiveness of local PMT on LILA in pregnant women with KEK.

Abstract

Law Number 17 of 2023 concerning Health (the 2023 Health Law) serves as a fundamental regulation governing various aspects of health services in Indonesia, including the operations of private hospitals. For private hospitals whose shares are listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), the implementation of the 2023 Health Law has brought significant changes in both legal and operational dimensions. This study aims to examine the legal aspects of implementing the 2023 Health Law on the operations of IDX-listed private hospitals. Employing a normative legal research method with statutory and conceptual approaches, this study analyzes relevant regulations and doctrines. The results indicate that the 2023 Health Law expands the scope of hospitals' legal liability, comprehensively regulates the obligations and rights of both hospitals and patients, and imposes stricter sanctions for violations. Furthermore, the implementation of this regulation impacts the business and financial aspects of listed private hospitals, including expansion opportunities, shifts in cost structures, and stock market responses. However, challenges remain in its application, such as diverse interpretations of certain provisions and hospitals' readiness to comply with the established requirements.

Abstract

Head injury remains a leading cause of mortality, increasing intracranial pressure and requiring craniectomy. Postoperative patients on ventilators are at risk of respiratory distress due to secretion accumulation, which can lead to decreased oxygen saturation. This study aimed to determine the effect of suction on oxygen saturation in post-craniectomy patients on ventilators in the ICU of Dadi Regional General Hospital, South Sulawesi Province. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. Oxygen saturation measurements were taken before and after suctioning and analyzed statistically. The results showed that the average oxygen saturation before suctioning was 94.14% and after suctioning increased to 99.81%. Most respondents experienced an increase in oxygen saturation after the intervention. The results of this statistical test indicate a significant effect between suctioning on increasing oxygen saturation (p = 0.000) with an effect size indicating a large impact. It is hoped that this action will be an effective intervention in increasing oxygen saturation in post-craniectomy patients who are on ventilators in the ICU.

Abstract

Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and long-term disability worldwide. Early detection and prompt first aid during the golden period are essential to improve patient outcomes, yet family knowledge regarding stroke management is often limited. This study aimed to analyze the effect of health education media, specifically audio-visual and leaflet, on family knowledge of early detection and first aid for stroke patients in the working area of Tamamaung Public Health Center, Makassar. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a two-group pre-test post-test approach. A total of 64 respondents were selected using purposive sampling and divided into audio-visual and leaflet groups. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge in both groups after the intervention (p = 0.000), with a significant difference between groups (p = 0.016), where audio-visual media was more effective than leaflets. These findings indicate that both media improve family knowledge, but audio-visual media is more effective and can be recommended as a primary educational tool to improve family preparedness in stroke emergencies.

Abstract

Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a life-threatening acute metabolic complication of diabetes mellitus characterized by hyperglycemia, metabolic acidosis, and ketosis due to absolute or relative insulin deficiency. DKA may present as the initial manifestation of previously undiagnosed diabetes, particularly in young adults. We report a case of a 27-year-old male who presented with decreased consciousness preceded by shortness of breath. The patient had a three-month history of polyuria, polydipsia, polyphagia, and significant weight loss. Physical examination revealed a Glasgow Coma Scale score of 9 and signs of dehydration. Laboratory findings showed severe hyperglycemia (426 mg/dL), elevated HbA1c (8.5%), leukocytosis, and severe metabolic acidosis (pH 6.8; HCO₃⁻ 5.8 mmol/L). The diagnosis of DKA was established based on clinical and laboratory criteria. Management included aggressive fluid resuscitation, continuous intravenous insulin infusion, electrolyte correction, and antibiotic therapy for suspected infection. The patient showed gradual clinical improvement. This case highlights the importance of early recognition, identification of precipitating factors, and prompt management to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with DKA.

Abstract

Ankle sprain is one of the most common musculoskeletal injuries in sports activities and often results in pain, limited range of motion, muscle weakness, and decreased functional ability. Appropriate physiotherapy management is essential to accelerate recovery and restore ankle function. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of combining electrotherapy modalities and exercise therapy in the rehabilitation of bilateral grade II ankle sprain caused by sports injury. The research used a case study approach with physiotherapy interventions conducted through several treatment sessions. The interventions consisted of electrotherapy modalities combined with therapeutic exercises designed to reduce pain, improve joint mobility, and increase muscle strength and functional stability of the ankle. Clinical evaluation was carried out through observation of pain levels, range of motion, and functional ability during the therapy period. The findings indicated a gradual improvement in the patient’s condition, including decreased pain, increased ankle range of motion, improved muscle strength, and better functional performance during daily activities. These results suggest that the integration of electrotherapy and exercise therapy can provide a comprehensive rehabilitation approach for ankle sprain injuries. The combined intervention not only supports pain reduction but also enhances joint stability and functional recovery, enabling patients to return safely to their physical activities and reducing the risk of recurrent injury.

Abstract

The quality of nursing services is not solely determined by nurses’ technical competence in providing clinical care, but is also influenced by their ability to establish therapeutic communication with patients. Therapeutic communication is a professional interaction process aimed at helping patients understand their health conditions, express their feelings, and develop a trusting relationship with nurses. Effective communication between nurses and patients can increase patients’ comfort during hospitalization and may influence their level of satisfaction with the nursing services provided. This study aimed to determine the relationship between nurses’ therapeutic communication and patient satisfaction in the inpatient ward of Grha Permata Ibu Hospital in 2025. This study used an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 182 patients selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using a therapeutic communication questionnaire and the Patient Satisfaction with Nursing Care Quality Questionnaire (PSNCQQ) to assess patient satisfaction with nursing care. Data analysis was conducted using the Spearman Rank correlation test to determine the relationship between the two variables. Most respondents assessed nurses’ therapeutic communication as good (87%). However, the majority of patients reported poor satisfaction levels (79.7%). The results of the Spearman Rank analysis showed a Sig. (2-tailed) value of <0.001 with a correlation coefficient of rs = −0.438, indicating a statistically significant relationship with a moderate correlation strength between nurses’ therapeutic communication and patient satisfaction. There is a significant relationship between nurses’ therapeutic communication and patient satisfaction in the inpatient ward of Grha Permata Ibu Hospital.
