Abstract

Television news is one of the television programs that almost owned by all the private television stations and the government. Through the news of television show, the viewers can find a variety of important and interesting information inside and outside the country, then get more information of government, economic, criminal, disaster, etc. This study aims to find out the audience’s satisfaction in watching CNN Indonesia Good Morning news program on Trans TV. The sample used 100 people by using Slovin techniques, in which only Surabaya citizen who had watched Indonesian CNN news programs at least 3 times. Furthermore, the audience satisfaction is measured by using Gratification Sought (GS) and Gratification Obtained (GO) approaches. The result shows that the audience gained the satisfaction from fulfilling the information motives with a significant gap value in watching the Good Morning CNN Indonesia news program on Trans TV. However, the audience did not get satisfaction from fulfilling the personal identity motives with insignificant gap values. Moreover, the audience gained the satisfaction from fulfilling of the integration and social interaction motives with a significant gap value, and then the audience also obtained the satisfaction from fulfilling the entertainment motives with insignificant gap values. In general, the audience gets the fulfilment of satisfaction from the information motives, the integration and social interaction motives. It means that the information, integration, and social interaction contents presented by Good Morning CNN Indonesia news is sufficient to meet the needs of the audience. The results of this study can be used as a good input for the manager of Good Morning CNN Indonesia news program on Trans TV to maintain the information content, the social integration and interaction content, and also to strengthen the news content of the personal identity and entertainment.

Abstract

In Indonesia, television is considered more dominant than other mass media, such as radio, newspapers and magazines. Television as a source of news has gained enormous trust from the public (90%). Television also has programs or also known as "broadcasts" which are defined as messages or series of messages presented in various forms. So, the definition of a program is everything that is displayed by a broadcasting station to meet the needs of its audience. The Chef's Table program is a cooking show program hosted by a chef and aired on NET TV. This program demonstrates how to cook with a different concept from other cooking programs and visuals that spoil the eyes of the audience while educating. Researchers want to know whether there is an effect of watching the Chef's table program on knowledge of cooking creations in adolescents in RW 13 RT 01 Manukan Kulon, Surabaya. This research is a quantitative study using the theory of uses and gratification related to the influence of the Chef's Table program on NET TV on knowledge of cooking creations in adolescents in RW 13 RT 01 Manukan Kulon, Surabaya. From the results of the study, the data prove that the Chef's Table program has a strong effect on increasing knowledge of cooking creations for the majority of respondents whose frequency and duration of viewing are classified as high.

Abstract

In life, humans are often brought together in a container or organization, either formal or non-formal. In a sports club institution that has many students, an effective way is needed for a coach in the process of developing children's talents by communicating well. To find out how the patterns and processes of communication between coaches and students in the process of developing the potential of basketball student athletes at DBL Academy, researchers conducted descriptive qualitative research, using Bandura's social learning theory which has a starting point that humans learn through observation and Devito's theory of interpersonal communication patterns. The researcher concluded that DBL Academy offers a series of programs that are not only focused on basketball but also on teaching and training life values to be reflected in the realization of developing student athlete potential. In addition, the researcher concluded that DBL Academy uses interpersonal communication patterns, including intimate communication carried out with people who already have emotional closeness, social conversations that are not so deep but are fun for the perpetrator, interrogation which is communication that demands information from the interlocutor, and interviews. Like communication patterns that are implemented in all educational institutions.

Abstract

Realizing that not everyone can tell stories well and engagingly, a researcher is interested in investigating the communication patterns of storytellers in creating audience responses in the "Kumpul Dongeng Surabaya" community. The goal is to understand the methods or communication patterns storytellers use to deliver their stories.Using a qualitative descriptive method, the researcher employs the S-O-R (Stimulus-Organism-Response) theory, which aims to determine: 1. Stimulus, 2. Organism, and 3. Response through observations, data collection, and interviews with four informants (storytellers and audience members) from the "Kumpul Dongeng Surabaya" community in order to obtain accurate data. To ensure that their stories captivate the audience and prevent them from losing interest, storytellers must skillfully design themes that cater to the audience's needs. Additionally, storytellers utilize vocal intonation and nonverbal cues, as well as visual aids such as puppets, wayang (traditional Javanese shadow puppets), illustrations, clowns, and sound effects. Furthermore, in the storytelling group, the message (stimulus) conveyed to evoke the storyteller's response should also be delivered using a structured scheme.

Abstract

Racism in the United States continues to be an enduring issue from generation to generation. Various forms of racial discrimination have remained ingrained in the social life of American citizens. The formation of stereotypes, negative prejudices, and the division of society based on skin color, between white and black individuals, have been triggering factors for the emergence of racism. White Americans still hold a position of high supremacy over black Americans. Film is a mass audio-visual medium believed to have the potential to influence its audience and depict or reconstruct realities of a phenomenon or issue, which is then presented in the form of a movie. The film "Green Book" is an adaptation of a true story that took place in the 1960s, a time when racism against black individuals by white individuals was prevalent. The purpose of this research is to describe the representation of racism in the film "Green Book." The method used in this research is Roland Barthes' semiotics, which focuses on the discovery of signifiers and signifieds in the object of study, namely the film "Green Book." It is formulated into three levels: denotative meaning, connotative meaning and myths, as well as the theory of racism. The results of this research show that the film "Green Book" depicts various instances of racism against black individuals in the United States. The portrayal of racism includes insults, marginalization, discrimination in physical and social status.

Abstract

The Regent of Sidoarjo, Muhdlor Ali, of course, so that the reputation of Sidoarjo Regency is seen as good by the community, it requires the role of public relations. Public relations has a role, among others, as a bridge or liaison between internal and external parties. This study aims to determine the public relations strategy of the Government of Sidoarjo Regency in improving reputation in the community. The theory used is communication strategy, public communication, public relations, and reputation. According to Rogers as quoted by Hafied Cangara, communication strategy can be interpreted as a plan that is built with the aim of changing human behavior in large numbers through the transfer of new ideas. Public communication can be interpreted as exchanging information or messages with several people who are inside or outside an organization, either directly or indirectly. The method used in this research is a quasi-qualitative research method, namely an approach that is not purely qualitative or not yet qualitative in essence because in its form this approach is still influenced by the habits of a quantitative approach. Data collection techniques and research methods in this study are divided into two, namely regarding interviews, and data from documentation. While the validity of the data is done through triangulation of sources. The results of this study show that the Sidoarjo Regency Government Public Relations communication strategy is through external, internal, vertical, horizontal and diagonal communication. The activities carried out by the Public Relations of the Sidoarjo Regency Government through the utilization and use of media to disseminate information to the public, the quality of human resources, and the formation of a reputation were not optimal. In order to realize the Public Relations objective of the Sidoarjo Regency Government in improving reputation in the community, it requires active use of both mass and social media, improving the quality of human resources, and coordination between agencies.

Abstract

Threats to a company's existence can arise from a reputation crisis induced by various factors. If not handled carefully, such a reputation crisis can lead to a loss of trust from customers, investors, and employees, which, in turn, can have a detrimental impact on the overall company's performance. For example, Carasun, a cosmetics company, faced a reputation crisis due to allegations of using "buzzers" to tarnish the reputation of its competitor, Skingame. The research on Carasun's crisis aims to identify the triggering factors of the reputation crisis, evaluate the negative impacts experienced by Carasun, and analyze the company's crisis management efforts. This research uses a qualitative research method with a case study approach, and the findings indicate that Carasun's reputation crisis was triggered by the improper use of "buzzers" and negative posts on social media. The impacts of this crisis included a decrease in consumer trust, disruptions in business partner relationships, and threats to the company's sustainability. To address this crisis, Carasun has implemented crisis management strategies, including adaptive strategies and utilizing social media as a crisis communication tool. Recommendations for cosmetics companies facing reputation crises involving "buzzers" include increasing awareness of early crisis signs, improving the ability to identify crisis signs through technology and data analysis, and strengthening internal coordination and communication by prioritizing ethical values and integrity.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Instagram account @analog surabaya on interest in photography using analogue cameras on followers. The theory used is the theory of uses and gratification. This theory explains the nature of audiences who are active in consuming media so that they can be selective in sorting out media messages that aim to meet audience needs. The method used in this research is quantitative method. By using a questionnaire in drawing data conclusions. The sampling technique in this study used simple random sampling. Based on the research that has been done, the researcher draws the conclusion that there is an influence of the Instagram account @analog surabaya on interest in photography using analogue cameras on followers. The correlation coefficient is 0.713 with a tendency of influence of 22.7%. The needs of the audience in this study are literacy needs about photography, especially analogue cameras, which are influenced by the @analog Surabaya Instagram account by 22.7%.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the level of media literacy and public response to health information provided by the Instagram account @sehatsurabayaku during the period May to June 2023. Media literacy is a crucial aspect in understanding, assessing and interpreting health information circulating on social media. This study uses the content analysis method to identify the type, source, and accuracy of health information published by the Instagram account @sehatsurabayaku. In addition, a survey was conducted to collect data on people's understanding and perception of health information received from these accounts. Survey respondents were randomly selected from followers of the Instagram account @sehatsurabayaku who were active during the study period. The results of this study are expected to provide an understanding of the extent to which people's media literacy processes health information from certain social media, especially the Instagram account @sehatsurabayaku. The findings of this study can provide insight for stakeholders in the health and social media fields in developing a more effective and responsible communication strategy

Abstract

Reseacrh aims to find findings from the forms of discrimination experienced by female journalists by media companies in Surabaya. The research subjects consisted of four media in Surabaya, namely Suara Surabaya, Ngopibareng.id, Jawa Pos, and Jawa Pos Televisi. This study aims to determine the discrimination committed by editors in the media Suara Surabaya, Ngopibareng.id, Jawa Pos, and Jawa Pos Televisi (JTV) against their female journalists. In addition to knowing the perspective of the editor-in-chief on gender in the world of work and the media industry. Through explorative qualitative research methods, researchers seek data from various sources. The results of this study indicate that there are still many media in Surabaya that have not fully fulfilled the rights of female journalists. At the Jawa Pos Office there are lactation room facilities as well as a refrigerator to store breast milk (ASI). Meanwhile in Suara Surabaya, the communication pattern formed by the chief editor towards female journalists is different from that of male journalists. Other findings also concern the workload experienced by female journalists from Ngopibareng.id and Jawa Pos Televisi (JTV). Based on research showing that the media in Surabaya, only one that has a good perspective on gender, namely Jawa Pos. Meanwhile, the editors-in-chief of Suara Surabaya, Ngopibareng.id and Jawa Pos Televisi (JTV) still don't have a good perspective on gender.
