The Journal of Geographical Sciences and Education (JoGSE) covers the following areas: 1. Physical Geography: Spatial dimension on the earth’s surface, climate, soil, landform, and water; 2. Human Geography: Spatial dimension on economic, urban, social, and cultural issues; 3. Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing, and these applications; 4. Environmental change, environmental education, environmental monitoring, and waste management; 5. Geography Education; 6. Disaster Risk Reduction. Abstract

River watersheds have an important function for water absorption for human life. The Pemudang sub-watershed is a national priority because its condition is increasingly critical due to land degradation. This research aims to carry out spatial modeling of land cover changes in 2031 in the Uangng Sub-watershed which will be compared with the 2011-2031 Regional Spatial Plan scenario. The method used uses the Cellular Automata-Markov Chain method. Based on predictions of land cover in 2031, agricultural areas dominate in the Uangng Sub-watershed covering an area of 14,783.4 ha (37.5%). Agricultural area according to the model in 2031 is estimated to increase by 97.5 ha. The difference between the 2031 model area and the region spatial plan is 5,168.9 ha, which means that the region spatial plan settlements are not expected to be able to accommodate future settlements. The forest area in the 2031 model is 12,351.6 ha, while in the region spatial plan it is 12,300.3 ha with an area difference of 51.2 ha. This shows that controlling the use of space in forests is not in accordance with the policies in the region spatial plan.

Abstract

Sukamakmur District is one of the areas in Bogor Regency where disasters often occur related to critical land conditions. This situation is often associated with changes in land cover as population growth continues. This research aims to identify and map critical land using a geographic information system (GIS) in Sukamakmur District. The method used is tumpeng stacking analysis with classification, scoring and weighting. There are 4 classes of critical land in Sukamakmur District, the largest percentage of low potentially critical land is 14,008 ha (82.32%). Then followed by slightly critical land with an area of 2,777.5 ha (16.32%), critical land with an area of 215.5 ha (1.27%), and very critical land with an area of only 16 ha (0.09%) of total area. This indicates that critical land for protected forests in Sukamakmur District is still relatively low.

Abstract

Environmental ethics is an important issue in the context of sustainability and environmental protection. This research aims to discuss Islamic, Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, and Confucian religious perspectives regarding environmental ethics and its importance in the context of sustainability. This research method uses literature study and analysis of sacred texts and religious teachings according to religious perspective. This research found that each religion has different views, but emphasizes the same important aspect of protecting and caring for the environment as the moral responsibility of religious communities. The concept of stewardship is emphasized considering the role of humans as managers and protectors of the universe. Environmental ethics in this religious perspective has similarities in teaching the importance of protecting and caring for the natural environment. This view can be the basis for individuals and communities to develop awareness and responsibility for environmental sustainability. Understanding and practicing religious-based environmental ethics is very relevant to overcoming the environmental challenges facing humanity in this century.

Abstract

Environmental damage is a problem that is always faced in urban areas including Kendari city, including the physical, social, and biological environment. Areas with crowded settlements are always a concern for the level of environmental damage. This research aims to determine the local knowledge of the community of Kampung Salo in protecting the environment. This type of research is qualitative research using interactive analysis. The data analysis technique uses interactive analysis which consists of four stages of the analysis model, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The research results show that only 21.9% of the community of Kampung Salo understands the importance of protecting the environment. The main factor in the lack of understanding of the Kampung Salo community in protecting the environment is the lack of education and lack of public awareness. Thus, intensive action from the government is necessary to help sensitize the community in protecting the environment.

Abstract

The mendong plant is one of the plants that is widely cultivated by people in Blayu Village, Wajak District. However, the number of farmers cultivating mendong plants is decreasing, so the agricultural land for mendong plants is starting to decrease. This research aims to: 1) analyze changes in land use for mendong crop farming in Blayu Village; and 2) know the factors that cause changes in agricultural land use for mendong crops. This research uses a descriptive survey method by collecting several samples in the form of people through questions. Google Earth was used to analyze changes in the use of agricultural land for mendong crops in Blayu Village from 2010 to 2024. Based on the results of the analysis of changes in agricultural land use for mendong crops in Blayu Village in 2010-2024, an increase in changes in the area of mendong crops was obtained by 26.45 ha or 91.4 %. Meanwhile, the factors causing changes in the use of agricultural land for mendong plants in Blayu Village are economic factors, labor, mendong craftsmen, and the availability of mendong plant drying equipment.
