Abstract

American English and British English are the famous English varieties in the world, although there are lots of varieties in English, but AmE and BrE are the most famous, they have lots of differences each other and sometimes those differences make the new learner confused. This research examines about Grammar and Vocabulary differences between American and British English. The researcher uses Qualitative Approach in this research because the researcher explains the results of research in words form, while Library Research is type of research that researcher used, because the sources of this research are several books, articles and others. The findings of this research indicated that are many differences between American English and British English including in the aspects and grammar and vocabulary. The differences are not a big deal for native speakers, but they may confuse non-native speakers of English.

Abstract

The aim of this research is: (1) to know the implementation of the technique of making an English news video to improve students’ Speaking skill, (2) to know the ability of the students non English in improving speaking skill. The research was conducted at students majoring Islamic Communications and Broadcasting of IAIN Surakarta. The researcher used qualitative research method to find out the improvement of the students’ speaking skill. The researcher collected the data through observation, interview, and documentation. The researcher obtained the data during teaching and learning processes. Based on the research that has been done, it can be concluded that: (1) the implementation of making an English News Video gives advantages for students’ in improving speaking skill, especially on communications and broadcasting field; (2) the non-English students got a lot of communications and broadcasting vocabulary, become more active and fearless in making mistake when showing their ideas after doing this research.

Abstract

This research is about the acquisition of Arabic as a second language of high school students at Darul Ulum Islamic Boarding School Jombang East Java. The type of research in this research is the Qualitative Research, because the result obtained is in the form of description data in the form of a word, phrase, sentence, etc. Qualitative research is a research method that does not need to design research hypotheses, nor do researchers use numbers in interpretation to produce. The results of this research are: Factors that support their success in the Arabic language acquisition is divided into two: internal factors and external factors. Internal factors are factors related to mental and psychiatric students at Darul Ulum Islamic Boarding School Jombang. While external factors relating to full support from madrasah leaders and teachers with the formation of the Language Club (LC), implementation of language programs), the diversity of methods in teaching Arabic, organizing activities and programs in language.

Abstract

This study aimed at developing an appropriate electronic learning media named E-Writing to improve students’ writing skill of English Education Department. This media will be the solution of students’ difficulties in writing activities especially as a guidence for writing task and activities. That is why this research is going to develop a media which based on the needs of analysis to make the learning process of writing skill become effective. This research is developed based on the Design and Development (D&D) model. The data obtained from the experts’ evaluation result. All data are both analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively using mean score and alpha Cronbach formula. The result of this study suggested that E-Writing can be such a beneficial media for students’ writing development.

Abstract

The purpose of this research are: (1) knowledge of the process of developing thematic learning materials in the Arabic language for students of the elementary school teacher education department of the Islamic Institute of Religion Attanwir Bojonegoro, and (2) knowledge of the merit and effectiveness of using the thematic learning materials in the Arabic language for students of the elementary school teacher education department of the Islamic Institute of Religion Attanwir Bojonegoro. The researcher uses this research method of Research and Development with the method of education design for - ADDIE (Analysis, design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). Data collection method for this research is: observation, interview, questionnaire, test, and documentary. The method of data analysis is qualitative descriptive analysis with modified degree symbol. The results of the research are: (1) the process of developing thematic learning materials in the Arabic language is used in the method of “ADDIE”, meaning: Analysis, Design, Development, Application, and Evaluation. Its result is the thematic learning materials in the Arabic language that is written on paper B-5 and consists of 185 pages that are divided into three chapters, which are: 1) Arabic language in primary school, 2) Arabic language at the university, and 3) texts on education and Islam, and Arabic language. This learning materials uses the "18" Arabic Typsetting font. This learning materials is written for candidate of elementary school teachers. (2) The result of the material expert's verification experience gets the value 63 at the "very good" level, and the design expert gets the value 83 at the "very good" level. The student evaluation result is rated 2432 at the "very good" level. As for the result of the effective trial, it indicates that the promotion from the modified result in the pretest that attained the value 69.4% at the "acceptable" level, was upgraded to the value 77.1% at the "good" level. Therefore, the use of thematic learning materials in the Arabic language for students of the elementary school teacher education department of the Islamic Institute of Religion Attanwir Bojonegoro is "deserving" and "effective" in learning.

Abstract

This study analyzes illocutionary act in political debate that was conducted by general election commision on March, 30 2019. This debate was about ideology, government, security and defense, and international relationship. In this research, Searle’s theory was used who classified five types of illocutionary act; representative, directive, commisive, expressive, and declarative. This research used descriptive qualitative. The main focus of this study is to get deep understanding and interpretation how the politicians argue each other using illocutionary act. The results of this study suggested that both of the candidates of president did not use all of the illocutionary act types proposed by Searle. The three illocutionary acts used by both of the candidates are, representative, directive, commissive. Meanwhile, another type of illocutionary acts used by one of the candidates is declarative, while another one used expressive.

Abstract

Learning the speaking skill needs practice and a correct example from the teacher. Then, the Islamic Higher Institute Dar al-Qur’an Payakumbuh using the native speaker to teach the speaking skill at that institute. This research aims to find out the implementation of the process of learning the speaking skill with a native speaker, its advantages and disadvantages. The research method used in this research is the descriptive method with qualitative approach analysis. The results of this research are: The first: The process of teaching and learning the speaking skill with the native speaker at the Islamic Higher Institute Dar Al-Qur’an Payakumbuh is implemented to the beginner level. The second: The advantages of learning the speaking skill with the native speaker, including: The students found the example of correct pronunciation from vocabulary and speaking with correct accent, intonation,vocabulary, phrases and styles of the famous Arabic language and used by Arabs. Also, by learning the speaking skill with native speaker, the students found exciting, enthusiastic, and encouraged to upgrade their ability to speak, and the third: disadvantages of learning the speaking skill with the native speaker, which is especially for beginners in the Arabic language, they are difficult to understand the explanation from the teacher because of his speed in speaking, and lack of their Arabic vocabularies, and lack of their comprehension in grammar and morphology.
