Abstract

The use of integral bridge abutments eliminates the need for deck joints and bearings. The absence of joints and bearings significantly reduces construction and maintenance costs, compared to conventional bridge types with joints. A standard design method for integral bridges does not exist. The girders are designed on the safe side, as simple supported girders, that is not taking the restraint from the embankments into account. A short span 22m concrete integral bridge design is being studied for application in future road betterment programs. Integral bridge technology needs still more research for innovation improvement. Satisfactory performance of a full scale execution will increase the integral bridge type selection in future bridge projects.

Abstract

Asbuton is Indonesian natural resource with a large amount of deposit, but has not been effectively utilized. On the other hand Indonesia imports asphalt about 650,000 tonnes per annum. Technology improvement to produce Asbuton with can be effectively used both in mixture and in asphalt content is immediately required. This article describes the properties of Asbut on resulted from extraction technology with has little mineral content ( < 1% ) and also describes properties of bituminous mixtures using bitumen Asbuton and asphalt cement pen grade 60 by Marshall method. The stiffness modulus properties of bituminous mixtures, resistance against deformation or accumulative strain due to repeated loading were examined in various temperatures. The test results show that bitumen of Asbuton extraction and asphalt mixes using bitumen Asbuton, generally has good performance compared to conventional asphalt cement especially for tropical area such as Indonesia.

Abstract

Since three last decades, number of traffic accidents in Indonesia have not yet been showing a significant reduction, although Police reported a decrease trend in number. In year 1971, 23294 occurences have been reported and decreased to 13399 in year 2003. However, Index Fatality is still high, it was 11.9% in year 1971 and increased up to 39.9% in year 1996 and tends to increase if there is no real action to stop the growth. It warned travellers by high probability of their involvement in an accident, five out of 10,000 vehicle ownership, are regressed involved in an accident and four out of ten of victims are of fatals. In order to overcome the problem, an accident reduction program has been setup and to be implemented, started from North Sumatra Corridor (North Sumatra, Riau, West Sumatra, and Aceh provinces) and Bali and to be continue to other provinces. This paper aims to present a conceptual back ground of this traffic accident reduction program, covering organization under related institution to be developed in the region, a coordination model, traffic accident investigation unit, and practical technology needed and applied.

Abstract

Two variations of preconditioning are given for repeat loading test unbound material are1000 cycles and 100 cycles. The change of the confining pressure and total axial stress after each preconditioning, creates drop on the value of the strains increment. The proportion of dropping value for resilient strain is lower for 100 cycles than 1000 cycles preconditioning, from the equally lines. Whereas, the different between permanent strains increment for both preconditioning are not too significant. It shows that the resilient increment strains drop for 100 cycles smaller than 1000 cycles. Increasing the total number of pulses or cycles will influence on the increasing the increment of strains, the proportion of increment tend to become higher by increasing the cycles.

Abstract

Pavement design using mechanistics approach has developed rapidly since a few decades ago. This sort of methods has been a choice because it is very efficient and effective as well as figure out the real condition of pavement system. Using this program, ones can vary type of materials that is possibly used for the pavement system. Currently, many computer programs are available for mechanistic approach which one of them is mePads. This paper tries to detail the effectivity and efficiency of using mePads for pavement design. It is found that this program is very useful for researchers who deal with the stresses and strains in pavement system. Another finding is that the design using mePads is a bit conservative compared to that of AASHTO’93

Abstract

In general, the pavement design methods in Indonesia are adopted from pavement design methods of AASHTO or TRL, such as flexible pavement design with analysis component methods (structural number analysis). The effectiveness of design result depend upon the use of design input, completeness and accuracy of data, that is traffic data, environmental or regional factor and terminal serviceability index (Pt). This paper discusses the effect of incaccurately inputing data, which is used for the design result.Design result showed that uncorrect determination decided of regional factor, terminal serviceability index (Pt) and the use of the equivalent standart axles of Austroad formula have a significant impact on it.
