Abstract

Wana Alus in Pencu Hamlet, Terong Village, Dlingo District, Bantul, is a forest area steeped in mystical narratives and religious practices that live on in the community's collective memory. Its popularity has surged again after its local stories were featured in the film *Kemah Terlarang*, which positioned the forest as both a mysterious space and a symbol of spirituality. This research begins with the central problem of the conflict of meaning between belief in supernatural entities and more rational religious understanding, and how this influences the community's treatment of Wana Alus as a sacred space. The purpose of this study is to explain the construction of religious meaning attached to Wana Alus, analyze the perspective of religious philosophy on this local sacred space, and evaluate the relevance of spiritual values emerging from local community narratives. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, employing literature review, narrative analysis, and secondary data collection in the form of documentation of folktales, local historical records, and in-person interviews collected from credible sources. The analysis employed religious phenomenology and sacred space hermeneutics to understand the structure of the community's experience of Wana Alus. The results indicate that this forest is not only perceived as a place of horror, but also as an ethical, spiritual, and ecological space that regulates social behavior, morality, and respect for nature. The discussion emphasized that Wana Alus is a concrete example of how myth, religiosity, and philosophy about transcendent space intersect in rural community culture.

Abstract

This study explores Delta State, Nigeria, postgraduates’ knowledge of and engagement with AI-based tools for language learning. This study sought to identify the levels of awareness and different facets of engagement, and the correlation of the two variables amongst the Population of 1000 postgraduates, 870 respondents were selected through stratified random sampling. Participants’ data were obtained through questionnaires, which were later analysed through thematic and descriptive analysis. The results of the study showed a mix of different levels of awareness of tools, with a notable knowledge of, and a lack of awareness of, functionalities like predictive analysis and automated grading. The results of the study indicated that AI-based tools for test preparation, translation, recommendations, and general skill improvement were used in moderate-to-high frequencies. The analysis demonstrated a greater level of awareness of AI-based tools and adoption. The study recommendations include integration of AI-based tools for additional training offered to students, and that curricula designed for Nigerian students be developed. The main conclusion of the study was that awareness is the main influencer. The research offers a postgraduate African context empirical contribution; specifically, the study shows how the components of technology acceptance, awareness, and perceived usefulness are interrelated. Limitations include self-reporting biases and the small geographic scope. Ascertaining the true effect of AI on students' language skills and overall academic achievement lends to future investigations the need for experimental and longitudinal designs.

Abstract

The study investigates how key elements of the knowledge economy, human capital, innovation systems, ICT infrastructure, and institutional frameworks shape the performance of selected Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Drawing on theoretical insights from Endogenous Growth Theory, Schumpeterian Innovation Theory, and Institutional Theory, the research adopts a quantitative design using data obtained from 218 respondents across academia, public-sector agencies, and private organisations. A combination of exploratory and bivariate analyses, with multiple correlations, was applied to investigate these connections. The results reveal that human capital is the most influential determinant of SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). At the same time, ICT infrastructure is the strongest driver of SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). Institutional fitness significantly contributes to SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) and also moderates the effect of innovation systems on SDG outcomes. Reliability indices (mean Cronbach’s α = 0.87) and sampling adequacy tests (KMO = 0.81) confirm a robust measurement structure. The study concludes that strengthening the pillars of the knowledge economy facilitates broad-based progress toward multiple SDGs simultaneously. Consequently, policymakers should prioritise investments in education, digital technology, innovation ecosystems, and governance reforms to foster inclusive, knowledge-driven, sustainable development.
