Abstract

Supervision means overall duties performed by a head teacher which ensures teachers perform their expected roles in the transmission of knowledge and enhance academic performances. Academic performance in examinations has consistently declined in primary schools in Kenya and the world over. The objective of the study was to; assess the relationship between the head teacher‟s supervision of professional development and academic performance in Embu and Muranga counties, Kenya. The study adopted the Role theory championed by Biddle. A descriptive survey research design was used. The Target Population was 14786 and comprised of head teachers and teachers. The researchers purposefully sampled 378 public and private primary schools. Simple random sampling was used to select 256 respondents. Data were collected using questionnaires, interviews, and observation. Reliability was ascertained by a pilot study which generated a Cronbach‟s alpha coefficient of 0.93. Data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics, precisely, correlation computations. The findings of the study informed that the highest percentage of supervision 87.4percentwas the head teachers‟ permission for teachers to attend seminars, workshops, and conferences. The least facilitated activity was the training of teachers by subject panels 60.3 percent. There was a negative correlation between head teachers' supervision and teacher professional development in public and private primary schools, at r=-.069<0 and P=0.602>0.05. The relationship was not statistically significant. The Supervision of teacher's professional development was not strongly linked to academic performance. There should be a balance between the supervision of teacher professional.

Abstract

This research aims to know the impacts between moral behavior, interaction with the community, and the impact of technology on Education which is the achievement index in Flores University especially in the study program of Accountant, management, Development Economics, and Information System. This research used the survey research approach with 95 respondents of the research sample. The method of analyzing data in this research was the correlation of Pearson Product Moment. To test the relation of some variables that used SPSS. The results of this research were: (1) The variable impact of Information systems on education had a positive impact on the achievement variable. (2) The interaction variable with the community did not have any impacts or influences on the achievement variable. (3) The moral behavior variable did not impact the achievement variable. It means that the use of good and right information technology will increase the students learning achievements, meanwhile the interaction with the community, and the moral behavior as the complement to support the students' success in gaining the good achievements in the University of Flores.

Abstract

This study aimed at discovering the effectiveness of auto play media studio 8.0 based chemistry media learning to improve the students’ collaborative character in acid-base material in SMAN 6 Pekanbaru. A Purposive sample was used as a method of study using an analysis of Independent Sample t-Test. The obtained data were the observation results data during learning processes. The results of the study indicated that the use of auto play media studio 8.0 based chemistry media learning was effective and significantly improved the students’ collaborative character, in which the significance value of Independent Sample t Test was 0,000. Based on the average results of collaborative character before and after the use of chemistry media learning based on auto play media studio 8.0 increased by 71%.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has transformed the learning system.  The great impact on the learning system is that millions of schools and universities are now starting to practice online learning massively at all levels of education. Now, the online learning system is also used in Intensive English Class (IEC) at one university in Banjarmasin. Intensive English Class (IEC) is a one-year English program for the students. This study aimed to investigate the use of online learning to enhance English skills through Intensive English Class. This is a qualitative descriptive study. This study invited 339 freshmen students and six Intensive English Class instructors as respondents. The results of this study show that online learning at Intensive English Class could effectively improve students’ English skills. This can be seen from the data that 58.1% students agreed that  the online learning could help them to enhance their English skills.  It was also supported by their knowledge of how to use online learning well. This means that there is a good connection between utilizing  online learning and the development of English skills on Intensive English Class.

Abstract

The alumni of Vocational Schools (VS) have contributed to the increasing number of unemployment recently. At the onset, the main objective of vocational education is to produce ready to work alumni. However,  the more the schools produce alumni, the higher the number of jobless people in this country. To tackle the issue,  the government launch revitalization programs for VS’s across Indonesia. The implementation of the program is intended to cut down the number of unemployment and poverty. To explore the implementation of the program within a vocational context, this study was undertaken to look at the understanding of VS principals about the revitalization programs as well as the ten core strategies of the program. Besides, the study was also conducted to explore the problems faced the principals and their expectations of the revitalization program. A qualitative phenomenology study using in-depth interviews were conducted to garner the data from nine school principals of private and public VS’s in South Kalimantan Province, Indonesia. The findings indicate that the improvement of the competency of certified teachers is essential. Furthermore, the availability of business and industrial based (DUDI) facilities and learning resources, as well as the availability of professional development training through a link and match programs, are also important. On the other hand, the establishment of Management Information System (SIM) based on School Automation System (SAS), industry-based curriculum, teaching factory, tutorial video, local wisdom, and the role of VS as the triggers of the local economy needs more socialization by the government.

Abstract

An engaging learning process will affect learning outcomes and student activeness during the learning process. The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of the combinatory use of Number Head Together and Two Stay Two Stray learning models on the scores of high school students’ mathematical tests and learning activeness. It was an experimental-based study with One Group Pre test Post-test design. The population of this study was all high school students in Kendari, with Cluster Random Sampling as the method to choose the sample. Final test and observation were used as instruments to collect data. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics with the One Sample t-test. Results showed that (1) the combinatory use of both learning models improved learning outcome by increasing students’ average test scores from an average score of 68 (pre-test) to an average of 83 (post-test) with a gain value of 0.71; (2) the learning models had a positive influence on student activeness during the learning process, proven by a score of 3.3 (positive category). It was also evidenced by the results of the t-test showing that the t-count score was greater than the t-table. Therefore, the combinatory use of Number Head Together and Two Stay Two Stray learning models has a significant effect on increasing the learning outcome and learning activeness of high school students in the mathematic class.

Abstract

The ability to write and publish articles in scientific journals is part of the professional competence of the teacher. The problem is that many teachers have not mastered the skills of writing scientific papers. As a result, many teachers find it difficult to advance in rank, especially for promotion after IV/a. This paper describes a community service activity sponsored by Riau University lecturers which aims to help teachers improve their scientific writing skills. Community Service Activities were performed at a SMAIT (Islamic Integrated High School) in Pekanbaru, Riau. This paper further explains the concept of the workshop, the content of the workshop materials, and the effectiveness of the workshop. This workshop lasted for two months with three face-to-face training sessions. The rest was done online via the Google Classroom platform. The material content covers the basic principles of scientific writing, the steps for writing scientific journals, how to cite and make references, including how to automatically quote from reference manager applications such as Mendeley, and how to submit articles through the Online Journal System (OJS). Data from the survey conducted at the end of the community service activity showed that, in general, this activity was well and effectively carried out. The majority of participants (72.7%) stated that their motivation to write increased after attending the training. Their knowledge of writing scientific articles have improved after training. Their ability in writing scientific journals is also relatively better than before following this structured workshop.
