Abstract

Waste management remains a significant challenge in Dusun Balinappang, Desa Bontoramba, Kecamatan Pallangga, Kabupaten Gowa, Makassar City. Low community awareness regarding waste sorting and proper management has led to a decline in environmental health quality. Improper waste management can result in various environmental problems, such as water, soil, and air pollution. To address this issue, a community service activity was conducted with the aim of improving public knowledge and awareness on proper waste management through the 3R approach (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). The method used for this activity involved education through the use of posters. The posters were designed to be visually engaging and simple, making them easy for the community to understand. This visual medium effectively conveyed information about the importance of waste sorting and applying the 3R principles. Additionally, pre-tests and post-tests were used as evaluations to measure the change in participants’ knowledge before and after receiving the education. The pre-test was conducted to assess participants' initial understanding, while the post-test helped determine the extent of their knowledge improvement regarding 3R concepts and waste management practices. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in the community’s understanding of 3R principles and proper waste management techniques. The community began to demonstrate positive behavior changes, such as sorting household waste more carefully and reusing materials that could be recycled. This shift contributed positively to raising environmental awareness and improving the health of the local community. With this simple yet effective education, it is hoped that the program can continue and be expanded to other areas. This initiative will contribute to creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment, which will have a long-term positive impact on the quality of life for the community.

Abstract

School laboratories are learning environments that have high potential hazards, both from exposure to chemicals, the use of complex equipment, and other environmental factors. Unfortunately, the application of occupational safety and health (K3) principles in schools is still often ignored, increasing the risk of accidents and occupational diseases. In response to this issue, the S1 Occupational Safety and Health Study Program of the Batari Toja Bone Institute carried out Community Service (PKM) activities which aimed to increase students' understanding of the importance of K3 culture in the laboratory. This activity was held on August 13, 2025 at SMAN 3 Bone by involving students of class XII.F.3 as the main participants. The method of implementing the activity includes filling out an initial questionnaire to measure the level of initial understanding of students, delivering material through lectures and direct demonstrations, and interactive question and answer sessions to deepen participants' understanding. The material presented included identification of potential hazards in the laboratory, procedures for using personal protective equipment (PPE), recognition of K3 signs, and strategies to prevent the risk of work accidents. The results of the evaluation showed a significant increase in students' understanding of aspects of K3, which was shown through the comparison of questionnaire results before and after the activity. Students become more aware of the importance of using PPE, are able to recognize K3 signs, and understand preventive measures in dealing with potential dangers in the laboratory. This activity is expected to encourage the formation of a K3 culture in the school environment, so as to create a safe, healthy, and productive learning atmosphere. In addition, this program is an educational model that can be replicated in other schools as a preventive effort in managing work risks in the educational environment.

Abstract

Every individual hopes for a better life, but not everyone has the same opportunity to achieve it. Various life challenges, such as economic limitations, lack of access to education, health, and social support, often become barriers for some people. This condition creates social inequality that makes many individuals lose their enthusiasm and motivation in living life. Early childhood dental health is a crucial issue that requires serious attention, considering the high prevalence of dental caries which is influenced by various factors, including inadequate tooth brushing habits and excessive consumption of sweet foods. This Community Service aims to analyze the level of knowledge about dental health, tooth brushing practices in children, and patterns of sweet food consumption on the incidence of dental caries at the Yauma Pilangsari Orphanage and Dhuafa Cirebon. The Community Service method used was an observational analytic with a cross-sectional design, involving 24 early childhood participants. The results of the Community Service revealed that 62.5% of children experienced dental caries, an alarming figure. Of these, 53.1% of children exhibited improper brushing habits, while 54.7% frequently consumed sweet foods. It is important to remember that children's dental health is a shared responsibility between parents, educators, and the community. With a good understanding of the importance of maintaining dental health from an early age, as well as support from various parties, it is hoped that children can grow up with healthy and strong teeth, which will ultimately improve their overall quality of life.
