Abstract

The development of Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) 2 has caused social inequality in Salembaran Jati Village because this development project involves the eviction of agricultural land and the relocation of residents to Kampung Jati Baru, creating new challenges in the social aspect. The purpose of this study is to explore the experiences of residents and the inequality of access to primary needs felt by residents of Salembaran Jati Village due to the construction of PIK 2. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this study refers to the dimensions of sense work and meta criteria of justice in the Good City Form theory by Lynch (1981). The results of the study show that the construction of PIK 2 caused the residents of Salembaran Jati Village to lose their village identity with the loss of agriculture and fishponds as well as their livelihoods as farmers and fishermen, limited access to public facilities, and minimal participation in the development decision-making process. Relocation to Kampung Jati Baru does not meet the basic needs of residents, and it is characterized by poor basic infrastructure and inadequate water quality. In addition, the PIK 2 boundary wall further strengthens the social inequality between PIK 2 residents and residents. This study concludes that the construction of PIK 2, although aimed at creating a modern, environmentally friendly area, still creates significant social inequality. The need for community participation in planning, PIK 2 developers by considering the needs of residents and the central and regional governments that have control over this development.

Abstract

Background: The development of public spaces in cultural heritage areas has an important role in supporting the preservation of historical and cultural values, while improving the quality of life of the community around the cultural heritage. Aims: This study aims to examine the potential for developing public spaces that are in line with efforts to preserve the Muara Jambi Cultural Heritage area. Methods: The method used is qualitative-descriptive with conceptual-contextual orientation. Data collection techniques are carried out through systematic literature studies, document analysis, and triangulation through stakeholder statements. Data are analyzed using thematic analysis to identify relevant key elements. Results: The results of the study indicate that the development of public spaces in the Muara Jambi area can be carried out by integrating elements of cultural education, ecotourism, and sustainable community activities. Conclusion: Increasing accessibility, providing environmentally friendly facilities, and involving local communities are key factors for success. This strategy not only supports the preservation of cultural heritage areas, but also creates a space for social interaction that strengthens local cultural identity. These findings provide practical recommendations for tourism offices, local governments and cultural heritage area managers in designing inclusive and preservation-oriented public spaces.

Abstract

Background: The Community Action Plan (CAP) has been implemented as a participatory approach to improving settlement quality through collaboration between the community and the government. These actions resulted in program plans supported by local administrative units and neighborhood-level authorities. The integration of actors within the community and the implementation of activities required synchronization between both parties. However, challenges in program sustainability and inter-stakeholder coordination remain major obstacles to effective implementation. Abstract

Urbanization has become a driving force behind significant spatial, environmental, and socio-economic transformations in urban areas, including Surakarta, the most densely populated city in Central Java. The rapid increase in population and urban expansion has led to drastic changes in land use and the structure of human settlements. This study aims to analyze the impact of urbanization on the ekistic elements of Surakarta (nature, humans, society, space/shells, and networks) and how these changes manifest spatially over time. A descriptive qualitative approach is employed using literature analysis and the interpretation of Landsat satellite imagery from 2011 and 2022. The findings show a notable decline in agricultural land and green open spaces, accompanied by a significant increase in built-up areas and public facilities. Transportation networks have also expanded to accommodate growing mobility demands. Among the five ekistic elements, nature, space, and networks are the most affected, responding directly to the spatial needs of a growing urban population. Meanwhile, the elements of humans and society are indirectly influenced through changes in infrastructure and the environment. This research highlights the importance of integrating the ekistics framework into urban planning to better understand and manage the complex dynamics of urban growth. The study offers valuable insights into how urbanization shapes city form and function, and provides a foundation for sustainable development strategies in rapidly urbanizing regions

Abstract

Research on sustainable transportation has been growing in recent years to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Urban dynamics pose a challenge in achieving these goals, as they are influenced by various factors such as population growth, urbanization, and urban expansion, which occur globally. This trend is also evident in urban areas across Indonesia, including Bandung Regency. Research on sustainable transportation has been growing in recent years as part of efforts to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Urban dynamics pose a challenge in achieving these goals, as they are influenced by various factors such as population growth, urbanization, and urban expansion, which occur globally. This trend is also evident in urban areas across Indonesia, including Bandung Regency. Bandung Regency plays a strategic role as a regional buffer zone, providing space for industrial activities, housing, and supporting infrastructure to sustain the capital city of West Java Province. To accommodate this growth, the Bandung Regency Government has developed a Detailed Spatial Plan (RDTR), which includes the development of the Soreang Integrated Urban Area. The increasing intensity of urban activities in Bandung Regency necessitates sustainable spatial management and development policies, particularly in transportation infrastructure provision.
