Abstract

The quality of the next generation significantly relies on the growth and development of children, particularly in the crucial first three years of life when brain cell growth and neural network formation occur. Monitoring toddler growth and development is crucial for early detection of any developmental issues. This descriptive research with a cross-sectional approach aims to investigate the relationship between maternal knowledge, attitudes, and toddler growth and development in Hutapuli Village, Siabu District, Mandailing Natal Regency in 2023. The study population comprises mothers with toddlers in the village, with a total sample size of 33 participants selected using total sampling technique. Data collection involved primary and secondary sources, and data analysis utilized the chi-square test with a significance level of p<0.05. The findings indicate a significant relationship between maternal knowledge and attitudes and toddler growth and development (p = 0.003, p < 0.05). The study emphasizes the importance of mothers enhancing their knowledge and adopting positive attitudes towards supporting the optimal growth and development of toddlers. It is essential for mothers to actively engage in the growth and development process to ensure the overall well-being of their children and the future generation.

This study aims to investigate the correlation between LBW and the incidence of neonatal asphyxia at Permata Madina General Hospital, located in Panyabungan District, Mandailing Natal Regency in 2023. Employing an analytical survey method with a cross-sectional approach, the study population comprised 48 patients at the hospital. Samples were selected using a total sampling technique. Data analysis involved univariate and bivariate analyses, including frequency distribution and the Chi-Square test. Results revealed that 20 respondents (41.7%) had low birth weight babies, with the majority of cases of neonatal asphyxia occurring in this group (15 respondents, 31.3%). Statistical analysis indicated a significant relationship between LBW and neonatal asphyxia at Permata Madina General Hospital in 2023, with a p-value of 0.002 (p<0.05). The findings suggest that babies with low birth weight are at greater risk of experiencing asphyxia compared to those with normal birth weight. The study emphasizes the importance of enhancing the quality of healthcare services in hospitals to facilitate early detection and treatment of LBW infants, thereby reducing the incidence of neonatal asphyxia among this vulnerable population.

Abstract

Similar to the intricate flow of a river creating diverse habitats, this study delves into understanding the correlation between parity, maternal age, and the prevalence of anemia among third-trimester pregnant women attending the Novi Lintas Timur Midwife Clinic in Panyabungan District, Mandailing Natal Regency, in 2022. With a cohort of 150 pregnant women as the focal point, this research highlights how the dynamic currents shaped by parity significantly influence the likelihood of experiencing anemia during the final stage of pregnancy. Conversely, the presence of maternal age factors seems to have a negligible impact on this journey. These findings are like a compass for midwives and health researchers to navigate the challenging waters of pregnancy. By understanding the dynamics of parity, they can find more effective intervention strategies in minimizing the risk of anemia in pregnant women. As a reflection of natural harmony, the involvement of health practitioners in monitoring and providing appropriate care to pregnant women with high parity becomes increasingly important to create a healthy and strong flow of life.

Abstract

During pregnancy, the nutritional needs of expectant mothers increase significantly to support both their own health and the development of the fetus. In situations where maternal food intake is limited, the fetus continues to draw from the mother's nutritional resources, potentially leading to maternal malnutrition and imbalanced food consumption. Such conditions can result in adverse outcomes such as premature birth or even fetal demise, as well as prolonged labor during childbirth. Hence, comprehensive maternal health assessments before delivery are crucial. This study aims to investigate the relationship between maternal weight gain during pregnancy, maternal upper arm circumference (MUAC), and newborn weight at the Atikah Sipolu-Polu Midwife Clinic in the Panyabungan District, Mandailing Natal Regency, in 2023. A descriptive research design with a cross-sectional approach was employed. The study population consisted of mothers who delivered at the Atikah Sipolu-Polu midwife clinic, with a total sample size of 45 individuals selected through total sampling. Data were collected using both primary and secondary sources. The analysis utilized the chi-square test with a significance level set at p<0.05. The results indicate a significant relationship between MUAC size, maternal weight gain during pregnancy, and newborn weight, with a calculated p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05). This study underscores the importance of enhancing nutritional patterns, particularly during pregnancy. It emphasizes the necessity for pregnant women to consume a balanced diet comprising vegetables, fruits, meats, vitamins, and other essential nutrients to ensure optimal maternal and fetal health outcomes.
