Abstract

Java Island, Indonesia’s economic hub, faces challenges from a demographic shift toward an aging society, marked by a growing elderly population. This trend raises demand for healthcare services and pressures local government finances, especially in managing health decentralization funds. This study analyzes the impact of aging on fund realization in six provinces during 2015–2024 using panel data. Results show the elderly population has a positive and significant effect, while life expectancy and total population have significant negative effects. The old-age dependency ratio is not significant. Overall, all variables influence fund realization, emphasizing the need for adaptive health policies.

Abstract

The Phenomenon of income inequality in the cities/districts of the former Kedu Residency remains an important issue, as evidenced by the increase in the Gini ratio in several areas such as Magelang city and Temanggung District during the 2020-2024 period, despite the continued increase in the Human Development Index (HDI). This study aims to analyze the effect of the Human Development Index (HDI) and poverty rate on income inequality in the cities/districts of the former Kedu Residency during the period 2020-2024. The method used is panel data regression with the Common Effect Model (CEM) approach and overcoming the problem of heteroscedasticity using Robust Least Squares. The results show that the HDI has a positive and significant effect on income inequality. Meanwhile, the poverty rate has negative and significant effect at a significance level of 0.10 on income inequality. These findings indicate that improvements in human development have not been accompanied by income equality in the cities/districts of the former Kedu Residency. Therefore, poverty reduction efforts should focus on programs that can increase community income, such as economic empowerment, improving job skills, access to capital, and strengthening MSMEs. The government also needs to ensure that improvements in access to education, health services, and living standards are able to reach the lower-middle class.

Abstract

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) plays a strategic role in supporting Indonesia’s economic growth, although its realization tends to fluctuate due to various economic and non-economic factors. This study aims to examine the effects of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), political stability, and the tax ratio on FDI in Indonesia. A quantitative approach is employed using the Error Correction Model (ECM) method, with annual data from 1998 to 2023. The results indicate a long-run relationship among the variables, where the tax ratio and political stability have a positive and significant impact on FDI. In the short run, only political stability shows a positive effect on FDI. These findings highlight the importance of maintaining political stability and implementing supportive fiscal policies to sustainably attract foreign investment.
