Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of economic growth, education, and health on poverty in East Java Province during the 2018-2023 period. This study is motivated by the high poverty rate in East Java compared to other provinces in Indonesia, despite having a smaller population. The Human Capital Theory and Amartya Sen's Poverty Theory are used as theoretical foundations. The data used is secondary data from Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS), covering 38 districts/cities in East Java Province. The analytical method used is multiple linear regression with panel data. The results of the study show that economic growth, education, and health have a significant negative effect on the poverty rate. Economic growth measured through GDP, the average length of schooling as an education indicator, and life expectancy as a health indicator, all contribute to the reduction of poverty. These findings indicate the importance of improvements in the economic, education, and health sectors to reduce poverty in East Java. The implications of this study can help the government and other stakeholders formulate effective policies for poverty alleviation in the region.

Abstract

This research examines the impact of socioeconomic conditions on dropout statuses at the high school level in Malang City. The study aims to fill the gap in understanding the factors influencing high school dropout rates by analyzing the relationship between various socioeconomic variables and the likelihood of students dropping out. Using logistic regression and firthlogit models, data from several districts in Malang City were analyzed to identify significant predictors such as parental education level, parental completeness, parental income, child employment status, and recipient status of the Indonesia Smart Program (PIP). The results show that low parental income and child employment status significantly increase the likelihood of students dropping out. In contrast, higher parental education levels, parental completeness, and PIP recipient status tend to lower the dropout risk. This research concludes that targeted policy interventions are needed to mitigate these risks. The implications contribute to educational policy, highlighting the importance of sustained financial and social support for students from low-income families.

Abstract

The success of economic development can be characterized by an increase in economic growth and equitable development. However, in reality, the increase in economic growth is not necessarily followed by equity. This is evidenced by the persistence of inequality in several aspects related to development between regions in Indonesia. One of them is income inequality by calculating the Williamson Index which shows an upward trend from 2018 - 2022. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a more in-depth research related to the causality between economic growth and income inequality, as well as the factors that influence these two aspects in the period 2018 - 2022. This study applies a simultaneous equation model through the use of the Inderect Least square (ILS) method. The results of the analysis show that (1) income inequality and IP-ICT have a significant negative effect on economic growth. (2) TPAK and PMTB significantly affect economic growth in a positive direction. (3) Income inequality is significantly positively affected by economic growth. (4) Total population, TPAK, and IP-ICT have a significant negative effect on income inequality. (5) There is a unidirectional causality from economic growth to income inequality.

Abstract

The internet has become an integral part of life in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Although this province boasts the highest internet penetration rate in the country, its economic growth has not kept pace, and income inequality has increased. This study aims to evaluate the impact of education, health, and internet usage on the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), as well as the effects of GRDP and internet usage on income inequality (Gini Ratio) in Yogyakarta. Using secondary data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) and the National Economics Social Survey (SUSENAS) from 2015-2023, the analysis was conducted using panel regression methods. The Two Stage Least Squares (2SLS) method was employed to understand the influence of the internet on GRDP and income inequality, providing guidance for the government in formulating policies to improve public welfare. The research results show that the Internet, education and health have a significant effect on GRDP even though the education variable has no significant effect. The results of this research also show that GRDP has a significant negative effect on income inequality. However, the internet variable shows positive and significant results on income inequality.

Abstract

As Indonesia's largest economic hub, DKI Jakarta plays a crucial role in national growth, reflected in its high Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) and workforce absorption in sectors such as trade, transportation, and communications. However, Jakarta's appeal as an economic center with high minimum wages leads to intense competition in the labor market. The Open Unemployment Rate (OUR) has fluctuated, highlighting the challenges in creating adequate employment opportunities. Additionally, Jakarta faces the demographic bonus phenomenon, with a growing productive-age population dominated by millennials and Gen Z. This demographic bonus presents opportunities for economic growth, but it requires strategies to enhance the quality of human resources to ensure optimal employment absorption and maximize the region's economic potential
