Abstract

Background: The maternal mortality rate in the world based on data from the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2017 was 817 people every day. Based on UNICEF data in 2020, the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) in the world reached 2.5 million deaths before the age of one month. The Ministry of Health in 2020 estimated that in 2024 the MMR in Indonesia would reach 183/100,000 KH and in 2030 it would be 131/100,000 KH. Objective: This study aims to explore in depth the relationship between the consumption of iron tablets and the risk of maternal death. Method: Using a literature review method and searching for articles using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews & Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method with inclusion and exclusion criteria, combining language keywords. The database used to search for articles is PubMed and Web of Science. Results: There are 5 articles that match the topic and can be used for a systematic literature review. Conclusion: Compliance of pregnant women in consuming iron tablets (Fe)  greatly influences the prevention of anemia during pragnency. So there is a relationship between the consumption of iron tabltes and the risk of maternal death.

Abstract

Background: Smoking is a major risk factor for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Indonesia, with a high prevalence of smoking, including in Situbondo Regency. The increase in cases of pneumonia due to exposure to cigarette smoke exacerbates health problems in this area. The Smoke-Free Area (KTR) policy aims to create a smoke-free environment to protect the community, especially children and vulnerable groups. This study aims to analyse the advocacy process in the ratification of the KTR Regional Regulation (Perda) in Situbondo Regency, as well as the challenges and commitments faced by stakeholders.  Methods: A qualitative approach with a case study design was used. Data collection was conducted through unstructured interviews, participatory observation, and analysis of documents related to KTR policy. Participants consisted of stakeholders such as government officials, members of the Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD), and civil society organisations. Results: This study found that despite strong commitment from local government and the community, the main challenges were public misunderstanding of the scope of the KTR policy and its economic impact on tobacco farmers. In addition, active community participation, particularly by the Children's Forum, played an important role in supporting advocacy for this policy. Conclusions: The successful enactment and implementation of the KTR Regional Regulation in Situbondo Regency requires strong cross-sectoral collaboration and effective education strategies to increase public understanding and support for more inclusive tobacco control policies.

Abstract

Background: Natural disasters continue to pose significant challenges globally, particularly in disaster-prone middle-income countries such as Indonesia, where communities are frequently exposed to hydrometeorological and geological hazards. While structural mitigation remains important, non-structural and community-based approaches are increasingly emphasized to enhance contextual relevance and community engagement in disaster risk reduction. This study aimed to develop and assess the feasibility of a community-based non-structural disaster mitigation module integrating local knowledge as an educational resource for disaster-prone communities. Methods: The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using a simplified adaptation of the Borg and Gall model. The development process included a needs assessment through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions, module design and development, expert validation, and a limited field trial with target community users. Data were collected using qualitative methods and structured questionnaires, and analyzed descriptively to examine feasibility, acceptability, and relevance.. Results: The results indicate that the developed module achieved high feasibility scores across content, presentation, language, and integration of local knowledge. User assessments from the limited field trial demonstrated high levels of acceptability and relevance, particularly in relation to clarity, contextual suitability, and usefulness as a learning resource. Revisions based on expert and user feedback were incorporated into the final version of the module.. Conclusions: In conclusion, this study provides early empirical evidence supporting the feasibility and acceptability of a community-based non-structural disaster mitigation module that integrates local knowledge. The module shows potential for use as an educational tool to support community disaster preparedness activities within similar middle-income country contexts. Keywords: Community-based disaster risk reduction;  Non-structural disaster mitigation;   Module development; Local knowledge integration; Research and Development

Abstract

Introduction: The diseases caused by some vectors, such as dengue, malaria, chikungunya, and filariasis are still being an issue. In 2019 the Larva Free Index (LFI) in Indonesia showed a percentage of 79,2% and this number has not reached the target of the ABJ program of > 95%, with 138,127 dengue cases recorded. In order to prevent mosquito larvae, biological control is used with mosquito’s natural enemy. This research aims to identify the differences abilities between the Betta Fish and the golden cichlid as the mosquito larvae of Aedes aegypti control. Methods: This type of research was quasi-experimental with a completely randomized design (CRD). The data collected by observation. Repetition/replication in this study was 18 samples. The data analysis used an Independent T-Test with a confidence level of 95% (α = 0.05). Result and Discussion: Betta fish has ability to prey on 20 larvae within onehour, total amount of larvae eaten in 9 times repetition was 175 larvae (96.4%). The golden cichlid has the capability to prey on 18 larvae within one hour, with the total amount of larvae eaten 9 times repetitions was 146 mosquito larvae (80.6%). Betta fish had a higher predation ability than golden cichlid (p value = 0.000). Conclusion: There was a difference in the ability of Betta fish and golden cichlid to control Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae (p value = 0.000). Betta fish was able to be more effective predators of mosquito larvae than golden cichlid.

Abstract

Background: Anemia among adolescent girls remains a public health problem affecting academic performance, productivity, and future reproductive health. Low levels of knowledge and negative attitudes toward anemia prevention are important risk factors. The use of digital-based educational media, such as the M-Health Anemia Rematri application, is expected to improve the effectiveness of health education. This study aimed to determine the effect of education delivered through the M-Health Anemia Rematri application on knowledge, attitudes, hemoglobin levels, and anemia status among adolescent girls at MA Muslimat NU. Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The sample consisted of 62 adolescent girls selected using simple random sampling based on the inclusion criteria. The intervention involved educational delivery through the M-Health Anemia Rematri application. Data were collected using questionnaires to assess knowledge and attitudes, as well as measurements of hemoglobin levels and anemia status using a digital Hb device. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods. Normality was assessed using the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, while hypothesis testing was conducted using the paired sample t-test, Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and McNemar test. Result: This study was conducted on 62 adolescent girls. The statistical analysis showed that the educational intervention using the M-Health Anemia Rematri application had a significant effect on knowledge (p = 0.001), attitudes (p = 0.001), and hemoglobin levels (p = 0.001). Conclusion: Education through the M-Health Anemia Rematri application is effective in improving knowledge, attitudes, and hemoglobin levels among adolescent girls. This application has the potential to serve as an innovative and accessible educational medium for anemia prevention.
