Abstract

Food waste behavior is closely related to individual consumerist attitudes, which in an Islamic context can be categorized as tabzir. This study aims to identify the factors influencing food waste behavior among Muslim consumers in Surabaya. The study uses the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) model and two contextual factors, namely religiosity and food consumption culture, to explain food waste behavior. Data were analyzed using PLS-SEM (Partial Least Square - Structural Equation Modelling) with the assistance of SmartPLS 4 software. The results indicate that all TPB variables significantly influence the intention to reduce food waste, with attitude being the most significant predictor of the intention to reduce food waste. Furthermore, the variables of intention, perceived behavioral control (PBC), religiosity, and food consumption culture also have a significant influence on food waste behavior. High levels of religiosity can inhibit individuals from engaging in food waste, while an unwise food consumption culture will encourage food waste. This study concludes that to prevent food waste behavior, it is necessary to integrate Islamic consumption principles with sustainable consumption culture among Muslims.

Abstract

Generation Z and Millennials represent a dominant segment of the population with significant potential to drive the growth of the Islamic banking market in Indonesia. This group also demonstrates a strong demand for Sharia-compliant financial products. However, limited research has been conducted to examine the determinants of public interest in mudharabah savings at Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI), particularly in Malang City. This study aims to analyze the influence of three variables religiosity, income, and Islamic financial literacy on the interest of Generation Z and Millennials in saving through mudharabah at Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI). A quantitative approach was employed using a survey method involving respondents residing in Malang City. Data analysis was conducted using Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) with the SmartPLS 4 application. The results indicate that religiosity and Islamic financial literacy have a positive and significant influence on saving interest. In contrast, income does not have a significant impact on the interest of Generation Z and Millennials in saving at BSI. These findings are expected to serve as a valuable reference for Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI), the government, and academics in designing strategies to enhance youth participation in mudharabah savings products.

Abstract

Although the Islamic financial sector continues to grow in Indonesia, the level of islamic financial inclusion remains relatively low. According to the SNLK 2024 report, the index of islamic financial inclusion stands at only 12,88%, indicating a gap between service availability and public utilization. This study aims to analyze the influence of Islamic Financial Literacy, trust, and financial self-efficacy on islamic financial inclusion in Indonesia. Using a quantitative approach and the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method based on Partial Least Squares (PLS), the study involved 217 respondents who are users of islamic financial services. The results show that all three independent variables have a positive and significant influence on islamic financial inclusion. Financial self-efficacy is the most dominant factor influencing public participation in islamic financial service, followed by trust and financial literacy. These findings contribute to the development of strategies to improve financial inclusion based on individual empowerment and public trust in islamic institutions. The study recommends that islamic financial institutions and the government strengthen practical financial literacy programs and expand access to service grounded in sharia principles.

The purpose of this study is to analyze and describe the economic empowerment process carried out by Daarul Ukhuwwah Putra Islamic Boarding School through independent business, supporting and inhibiting factors in the economic empowerment of pesantren through independent business, and the impact of independent business on improving the welfare of pesantren, students, and the surrounding community. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with a case study approach. The results of this study indicate that Daarul Ukhuwwah Putra Islamic Boarding School in Malang implements economic empowerment through independent business ventures by establishing business units such as maksof, building shops, and canteens, which involve santri in the management and provision of practice-based entrepreneurship. Supporting factors for economic empowerment include the support of the pesantren leadership, the availability of potential human resources, and cooperation with the surrounding community. However, there are obstacles such as low understanding of business management, less than optimal dependence on technology, and lack of discipline in applying SOPs. This independent business has a positive impact, with profits used for the construction of pesantren facilities, as well as providing entrepreneurial experience and skills for santri. The impact is also felt by the surrounding community who are involved in providing goods and services, which increases their economic income. Overall, this empowerment not only improves the welfare of pesantren and santri, but also strengthens social networks and improves the quality of life of the surrounding community.
