Abstract

The Effect of Hydroponic Height and Vertical Planting Media on the Growth of Chris Green (Lactuca sativa L.). This study was carried out at the Dokagu UIR Housing Block B No. 2, located in Air Dingin Village, Bukit Raya District, Pekanbaru City, from August to September 2022. A Split Plot Design (RPT) was employed for the experimental setup, with the height of the gutter (A) as the main plot and various types of planting media (B) functioning as subplots. The treatment combinations included four different levels of lettuce types and four levels of height positioning, resulting in 16 treatment combinations, each replicated three times, summing up to a total of 48 experimental units. The parameters measured were plant height, leaf count, wet weight, dry weight, and root volume. If the calculated F value exceeds the F table value, a further Honestly Significant Difference (HSD) test at the 5% significance level will be conducted. The findings revealed that the interaction between hydroponic height and planting media significantly affected all observed parameters, with the exception of plant dry weight. The most effective treatment combination was found to be a hydroponic height of 80 cm and cocopeat as the planting medium (A3B4). Moreover, hydroponic height had a significant effect on all measured parameters, with 80 cm (A3) yielding the best results. Additionally, the choice of planting medium significantly influenced all observed parameters, with cocopeat (B4) proving to be the best treatment.

Abstract

This research determines the response of purple eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) to the application of triple superphosphate (TSP) and Azolla Liquid Organic Fertilizer (POC). The study was carried out at the Experimental farm of the Faculty of Agriculture at Riau Islamic University, Pekanbaru. The experimental design was a factorial randomized arrangement featuring two main components: Azolla POC applied in four volumes (0, 200, 400, dan 600 ml per polybag)) and TSP fertilizer administered in four quantities (0, 2,5, 5, dan 7,5 g per tanaman). This design resulted in 16 treatment combinations, each replicated three times, totaling 48 experimental units. The study included 192 polybag plants, with four plants assigned to each unit and two of those sampled for analysis. The parameters measured included plant height, age at flowering, age at harvest, number of fruits per plant, weight of individual fruits, total fruit weight per plant, and number of remaining fruits on each plant. After conducting statistical analyses, the data were evaluated using the BNJ test at a 5% significance level. The results of the research on the combination of Azolla POC and TSP were significant on the observed parameters. Specifically, plant height, age at flowering, age at harvest, number of fruits per plant, weight of individual fruits, total fruit weight per plant, and number of remaining fruits on each plant; the best treatment was a combination of Azolla POC 600 ml polybag and TSP 7.5 g/plant. The main effect of Azolla POC was significant on all parameters; the best treatment was Azolla POC 600 ml polybag. The main impact of TSP was substantial on all observed parameters; the best treatment was a TSP application of 7.5 g per plant

Abstract

This study aims to examine the combined effects of quail manure and NPK 16:16:16 fertilizer on the growth of oil palm seedlings (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) in Red Yellow Podzolic soil during the pre-nursery stage. The research was conducted from February to May 2023 at the Experimental Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, Riau Islamic University in Pekanbaru City. The experimental design utilized a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors. The first factor involved quail manure at four levels: 0, 200, 400, and 600 g per plant. The second factor consisted of four levels of NPK 16:16:16 dosage: 0, 15, 30, and 45 g per plant. Each treatment was replicated three times. The observed parameters included plant height, number of leaf midribs, stem diameter, wet weight, leaf length, and root length. Statistical analysis was performed, followed by the Honestly Significant Difference Test (BNJ) at a 5% significance level. The interaction between treatments significantly enhanced stem diameter (21.10 mm), plant wet weight (34.88 g), and root length (26.72 cm) with the combination of 600 g/plant quail manure and 45 g/plant of NPK 16:16:16 fertilizer. Quail manure had a significant main effect on all parameters, with the optimal treatment being 600 g/plant. Similarly, NPK 16:16:16 also had a significant main effect on all observed parameters, with the best treatment being 45 g/plant.

Abstract

This study investigates the combined effects of Eco-Enzyme and Rice Husk Biochar on the growth of Clove Plant Seedlings (Syzygium aromaticum L.) in red and yellow podsolic media. Conducted at the experimental farm of the Faculty of Agriculture at the Islamic University of Riau, the research spanned four months, from January to April 2024. The study employed a Factorial Complete Random Design (RAL) with two factors: the application of Eco-Enzyme (factor Z) at five levels—0 ml, 10 ml/l water, 20 ml/l water, 30 ml/l water, and 40 ml/l water—and Rice Husk Biochar (factor B) at four levels—0 g, 100 g/polybag, 200 g/polybag, and 300 g/polybag. The parameters observed included plant height, leaf count, chlorophyll content, stomatal number, stem base diameter, longest root length, root volume, crown fresh weight, and root-to-crown ratio. The results indicated that the interaction between Eco-Enzyme and Rice Husk Biochar significantly influenced plant height, leaf count, chlorophyll levels, stomatal numbers, stem base diameter, root length, crown fresh weight, and the root-to-crown ratio. The best treatment was identified as an Eco-Enzyme concentration of 40 ml/l water combined with 300 g of rice husk biochar per polybag (Z4B3). Eco-Enzyme had a significant main effect on all parameters, with the optimal treatment being 40 ml/l water. Similarly, Rice Husk Biochar also had a significant main effect on all observed parameters, with the best treatment being 300 g/polybag.

Abstract

Riau is home to a wealth of genetic resources distributed across various regions, including local banana varieties found in Indragiri Hulu. A study titled "Morphological Characteristics of Four Types of Bananas (Mussa spp)" was conducted from September to November 2023 to explore the morphological traits and shelf life of these local bananas. The study involved designing research parameters, collecting data through field identifications and observations, and analyzing the data using the STAR and DMRT applications at a 5% significance level. Kinship relationships were assessed using the MVSP 32 application with the UPGMA method, analyzed through NTSys-pc 2.1 software, with results presented in a dendrogram format. The study observed nine qualitative and eight quantitative morphological characteristics. The dendrogram revealed that the four local banana varieties from Indragiri Hulu could be grouped into two main clusters. The first group includes Banten, Kepok, and Lilin bananas, displaying a 50% similarity based on traits such as fruit shape, cross-section, and skin color before and after ripening. The second group consists of a single variety: Kepok bananas. Notably, Kepok and Banten bananas exhibited closer similarities based on characteristics such as fruit weight per fruit, the number of fruits per bunch, and fruit length. Overall, these four banana types exhibit diversity in traits related to the number of fruits per bunch and the thickness of the fruit skin.
