Abstract

Yielding variety is one of the important component technologies to increase production. Selection of varieties is suitable with a very supportive environment agro-ecosystem rice farming success. This research aims to determine the proper performance of growth and production of new superior varieties of lowland rice. The experiment was conducted at the farmers’ rice field Sikabau, Pulau Punjung, Dharmasraya Regency, from June to October 2012, using a randomized block design (RBD) with five replications. Treatment used three new varieties of lowland rice, i.e., Logawa, Tukad Unda, Mekongga and the high-yielding varieties of lowland rice of IR 66 which has evolved a long enough as a comparison. The seedlings was planted 3-5 seedlings/hill with spacing of 25 x 25 cm. Fertilizers applied is 300 kg Ponska, 100 kg urea and 30 kg KCl/ha. Data were collected consisted of plant height, maximum number of tiller/hill, number of productive tiller/hill, yield components and yield. The results showed that three new varieties of lowland rice, namely Logawa, Mekongga and Tukad Unda had good growth and yield. The new varieties which had a very good response were Logawa (5.8 t/ha), Mekongga (5.6 t/ha) and Tukad Unda (5.5 t/ha).

Abstract

Maize is the most important food commodity containing carbohydrate at the second rank after rice. Organic agriculture is natural farming which is able to suppress the use of organic material giving negative effect on environment. This research aims to examine the response of giving type and dosage of bokasi on growth and yield of Sweet Corn. The completely randomized design was used with 4 x 4 factors. The treatment used four bokasi type namely: weed bokasi (J1), maize bokasi (J2), coconut waste bokasi (J3), and manure bokasi (J4). While, Bokasi dosage consisted of 10 grams per plant (D1), 20 grams per plant (D2), 30 grams per plant (D3), and 40 grams per plant (D4). The parameters observed were cob length, cob diameter, and cob weight per con. The results showed that the best response of giving type and dosage of bokasi was found on weed bokasi under dosage 10 grams per plant with cob length of 13.70 cm, cob diameter of 4.10 cm and cob weight of 95 grams per cob.

Abstract

Testing germination in principle is to test a number of seeds and determine the percentage of seeds that can grow or be able to germinate normally at the specified time period. This test aimed to learn how to test a variety of seeds and germination of seeds of a particular lot by using a paper substrate, assessing different types of seeds that germinated species and classify them, determine the viability of a seed lot with benchmark germination. Tests on rice seed germination showed that seeds still qualify for graduation certification under the provisions established by the Directorate General of Food Crops for germination percentage above 80%. In addition, the percentage growth rate (KCT) is also quite high which indicates that the seed is still vigor. Benih corn and soybean seed were tested did not meet the graduation requirement of certification of seeds but the percentage growth rate (KCT) each classified as still having medium and high vigor. Germination in spinach showed that seeds still qualify for graduation certification. Evaluation of two maize seed lots showed normal germination percentage significantly. Quality tested physiological soybean seed has declined, by looking at the percentage of normal seedling is quite low and the percentage of dead seeds are quite high.
