Abstract

Subculture is one of stages to produce plant through tissue culture. Basically, subculture is to cut, cleave, and replant explant that grows for increasing number of plants. The purpose of this research is to sterilization a part of pant from field which will be used as explant and to make sub-culture on a part of plant to produce in vitro. Generally, the explant sterilization of orchid fruit and Red Betel Vine produces under satisfaction because of up to 90% of explant experiences contamination by fungus, bactery and browing. Sub-culture krisan on callus medya shows that a small number of culture successed to form callus, while other ones experiences contamination. On krisan sub-culture in bud medya is obtained a good result and differ significantly with others under a high level of contamination. All of those are likely caused by unskill in creating a sterile condition in the explant sterilization practices as well as at time in making sub-culture.

Abstract

Parallel technique of legowo was disseminated to SLPTT locations in Riau Province for 9 regencies, i.e., Indragiri Hilir (25 LL), Indragiri Hulu (60 LL), Rokan Hulu (182 LL), Pelalawan (50 LL), Rokan Hilir (25 LL), Kuantan singingi (63 LL), Kampar (140 LL) and Siak (33 LL). However, the research related to affectivity of parallel technique of legowo for supporting the increase of rice production in Riau Province has not been conducted. Therefore, it is needed a research on adoption of parallel technique of legowo. The purpose of this research was to increase knowledge, attitude, and skill of farmers in activity for optimally using inputs by parallel technique of legowo planting. The results showed that production cost per growing season of rice farming for cooperator farmer was higher than non-cooperator, namely Rp. 9,247,711.63/ha and Rp. 8,815,445.83/ha, respectively. The high cost incurred by cooperator farmer was due to the high use of fertilizer.

Abstract

The majority of farmers with small scale enterprises are still facing a capital shortage primarily rice farming. Capital constraints caused farmers must perform farm activities with a limited input. Limited input causing the output and the revenue generated is not optimal. Food security and energy credits are one of the credit which intends to help especially rice farmers. By the low interest rate, this credit is expected to help farmers for improving the use of inputs and increasing the output and revenue. The aims of study are to evaluate the use of credit on production activities and to analyze the increase in rice farming profits before and after the credits. Research methods used in this research were descriptive analysis, multiple regression analysis, and different test (t-test). The results showed that the rice farmers used KKPE for 53% for rice farming which included the purchase of equipment and farm machinery, production inputs and labor wage. An increase in rice farming profits, but not affected by the credit, and from the t-test result that there was no difference profits before and after credit.

Abstract

In order to get the optimum yield, fertilization should be based on plant need of nutrient. The aim of this research was to find out the optimum dosage of oil palm stem compost for tuber yield of five cassava genotypes. The research was conducted at the biology experimental farm of Riau University, Pekanbaru situated at above ± 5 meters elevation during eleven months from July 2013 to May 2014. The research was arranged in the Randomized Block Design with two factors. The first factor was five cassava genotypes namely: Emas cassava (IM1), Lambau cassava (IM2), Menggalo cassava (IM3), Pulut cassava (IM4), Grafting cassava (IM5). The second factor was dosage of oil palm stem compost with three levels namely: 0 kg (P0), 5 kg (P5), 7 kg (P7). The parameters observed were plant height, number of tubers/plant, tuber diameter, tuber length, and tuber weight/plant. The results showed that there was significantly interaction between doses of oil palm stem compost and cassava genotypes on the tuber weight/plant but not significantly on plant height, number of tubers/plant, length and diameter of tuber. The compost with dosage of 5 kg was optimum for Lambau and Pulut cassavas, while the compost with dosage of 7 kg was optimum for Emas, Menggalo, and Grafting cassavas.
