Abstract

Background: Patients with Endotracheal Tube (ETT) and mechanical ventilators often experience secretion buildup in the airway that can lead to airway obstruction, ventilation disorders, as well as changes in hemodynamic parameters. Close suction is one of the nursing interventions used to clean secretions without disconnecting the ventilator so that ventilation and oxygenation are maintained. Objective: To describe the effect of the close suction method on hemodynamics: MAP (Blood Pressure), Pulse, Respiration, and Oxygen Saturation in patients who were fitted with ETT and ventilators in the ICU room. Methods: This study used a descriptive case study design on 5 patients who were fitted with ETT and mechanical ventilators in the ICU of Santosa Bandung Kopo Hospital. Data collection was carried out by measuring hemodynamic parameters before (pretest) and after (posttest) close suction action using bedside monitor. Data were analyzed descriptively by comparing the values before and after the intervention. Results: After close suction was given, there was an increase in the mean MAP value from 87.8 mmHg to 98.8 mmHg, HR from 96.2 times/min to 101.0 times/minute, RR from 19.6 times/min to 20.0 times/minute, and SpO₂ from 99.8% to 100%. These changes show that the close suction action is able to maintain the patient's hemodynamic stability and oxygenation during the procedure. Conclusion: The close suction method has an effect on hemodynamics: MAP (Blood Pressure), Pulse, Respiration, and Oxygen Saturation in patients who are fitted with ETT and mechanical ventilators. This action can be used as a nursing intervention to help maintain the physiological stability and oxygenation of critical patients in the ICU room.

Abstract

College students are often busy completing their assignments. They frequently experience sleep problems that can distort their studies. One of the factors that affects sleep quality is sleep hygiene. Poor sleep hygiene can worsen sleep quality. This study aims to determine the correlation between sleep hygiene and sleep quality among students of the Diploma III Nursing Program at Universitas Abulyatama. This study employs a quantitative correlational-descriptive design applying a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 556 students, while the sample was 85 students selected using proportional random sampling. The Sleep Hygiene Index (SHI), with a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.66, measured sleep hygiene. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), with a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.83 of sleep quality. The study took place at Universitas Abulyatama from June 4th to July 3rd, 2025. Bivariate analysis using the chi-square test indicates a significant correlation between sleep hygiene and sleep quality, with a p-value of 0.000 (p ≤ 0.05). The findings reveal that a total of 69.4% of students had good sleep hygiene, and 41.2% had good sleep quality. The results prove that proper sleep hygiene leads to improved sleep quality. Therefore, students should enhance their knowledge on sleep hygiene, as poor sleep hygiene can lead to poor sleep quality.

Abstract

The implementation of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) begins at an early age, particularly among school children, who learn extensively from their surrounding environment through the School Health Program (UKS). Although the family is the primary unit in shaping PHBS habits, parents’ busy schedules often lead children to interact more with teachers and peers at school. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the UKS program on students’ PHBS at SD Lambaro Angan, Darussalam District, Aceh Besar Regency in 2024. This research employed a cross-sectional design with a population of 321 students and a sample of 76 respondents. Data collection was conducted on March 4, 2024. The results indicate that the UKS program has a significant effect on students’ PHBS, including habits such as washing hands with running water and soap, purchasing healthy snacks at the school canteen, disposing of waste properly, participating in physical exercise, not smoking at school, eliminating mosquito larvae, and using school sanitation facilities (p < 0.05). However, no significant effect was found on activities such as weighing body weight and measuring height. In conclusion, the UKS program is effective in improving students’ PHBS. These findings are expected to provide input for schools to optimize the implementation of UKS and enhance PHBS promotion so that students can apply clean and healthy living behaviors in their daily lives.

Abstract

Stroke often causes hemiparesis, which impairs hand motor skills and independence in daily activities. Mirror therapy is a rehabilitation intervention that stimulates motor function through visual feedback, while patient motivation plays a crucial role in exercise adherence. This study aims to analyze the effect of mirror therapy and patient motivation on hand motor skills in patients with hemiparesis. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest approach in 30 hemiparesis patients undergoing rehabilitation at the Ciherang Community Health Center. Mirror therapy intervention was administered for 20–30 minutes, three times per week for four weeks. Hand motor skills were measured using Manual Muscle Testing on a scale of 0–5, while patient motivation was assessed using a questionnaire. The results showed a significant increase in hand motor skills after mirror therapy (p < 0.05) and higher patient motivation was associated with greater motor score improvement (p < 0.05). Mirror therapy and patient motivation have been shown to have a positive effect on hand motor skills in hemiparesis patients, so this combined intervention can be considered as part of a stroke rehabilitation program.

Abstract

Neonatal hyperbilirubinemia may progress to acute bilirubin encephalopathy and permanent neurological injury when risk factors are not recognized promptly. This study examined the relationships of gestational age, delivery type, neonatal infection, and early breastfeeding initiation with hyperbilirubinemia severity among neonates treated in a neonatal intensive care unit. A retrospective analytic study used complete medical records of 179 neonates with hyperbilirubinemia admitted to the NICU of Grha Permata Ibu Hospital from July 2024 to June 2025. Total sampling was applied. Hyperbilirubinemia severity, gestational age, delivery type, infection status, and early breastfeeding initiation were extracted using a structured observation sheet. Data were analyzed using frequency distributions, chi-square tests, and Cramer’s V at a 5% significance level. Most neonates had grade 3 hyperbilirubinemia (42.5%), were born at term (84.4%), delivered by cesarean section (91.1%), had no documented infection (63.7%), and did not receive early breastfeeding initiation (53.1%). Severity was significantly associated with gestational age (p = .007; V = .236), infection (p < .001; V = .307), and early breastfeeding initiation (p = .002; V = .259), but not with delivery type (p = .233; V = .128). Risk-oriented neonatal nursing should prioritize preterm infants, early infection identification, and timely breastfeeding support while maintaining bilirubin surveillance based on postnatal age and clinical risk.
