Abstract

Abstract

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic disease requiring long-term management. Glycemic control can be influenced by medication adherence, self-care behaviors, family support, and psychological conditions. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between medication adherence, dietary habits, physical activity, family support, and psychological factors and the glycemic control status of T2DM patients at Hospital X. Methods: An observational analytic quantitative study with a case-control design was conducted from May to July 2026. A total of 84 T2DM patients participated, comprising 42 patients with controlled diabetes and 42 with uncontrolled diabetes. Cases were recruited using total sampling, and controls were selected at a 1:1 ratio. Data were collected using questionnaires and medical records. Medication adherence, dietary habits, and physical activity were assessed using the Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities (SDSCA); family support was assessed using the Hensarling Diabetes Family Support Scale (HDFSS); and psychological factors were assessed using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21). Glycemic control status was determined based on HbA1c levels. Relationships were analyzed using Fisher’s Exact Test. Results: Significant associations were found between glycemic control status and medication adherence (p<0.001), dietary habits (p=0.001), physical activity (p<0.001), family support (p=0.009), and psychological factors (p<0.001). In the controlled group, all 42 respondents demonstrated good medication adherence, good dietary habits, good physical activity levels, good family support, and normal psychological conditions. Conversely, all respondents falling into categories of poor adherence, poor diet, inactivity, insufficient support, or psychological distress belonged to the uncontrolled T2DM group. Conclusion: Medication adherence, dietary habits, physical activity, family support, and psychological factors are significantly associated with glycemic control in T2DM patients. Nursing care needs to integrate assessments of treatment adherence, self-care behaviors, family support, and psychological conditions. Conclusion: Medication adherence, dietary patterns, physical activity, family support, and psychological factors are significantly associated with glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Nursing care needs to integrate assessments of treatment adherence, self-care behaviors, family support, and psychological conditions.

Abstract

Introduction: Pain after sectio caesarea can interfere with maternal comfort and recovery. This case study describes nursing care combining finger-grasping relaxation and lavender aromatherapy to reduce pain in mothers after sectio caesarea at RSUP dr. Soeradji Tirtonegoro Klaten. Methods: A descriptive case study with a pre–post assessment involved two participants selected through purposive sampling. Finger-grasping relaxation and lavender aromatherapy were administered over two consecutive days. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after each session. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation and analyzed descriptively. Results: On the first day, the NRS score decreased from 5 to 4 in the first participant and from 5 to 3 in the second participant. On the second day, both participants experienced a decrease from 3 to 2. These changes were accompanied by improved vital signs, reduced grimacing, greater comfort, and improved mobility. Conclusion: The combination of finger-grasping relaxation and lavender aromatherapy was associated with reduced pain in both cases and may be considered as an adjunct to postoperative nursing pain management.
