Abstract

The position of woman and knowledge in Islamic perspective has been an interesting issue in Islamic studies. One of the female Muslim scholars who focus her studies on feminism is Sa'diyya Shaikh. By exploring Gadamer's philosophical hermeneutics, this paper is aimed at explaining the basic concepts of the philosophical hermeneutics of Sa'diyya Shaikh's "Knowledge, Women, and Gender in the Hadith: a Feminist Interpretation" published in 2014. The work is focused on the interpretation responding to the selected texts of the Hadith in "The Book of Knowledge", the collection of the prophetic traditions by Sahih al-Bukhari. It was found out that prejudice influences Shaikh's motivation in interpreting the text. However, as there are neither merely subjective nor objective aspects in the interpretation, Shaikh positions herself in the structures of self-understanding which reveal "the truth" for her within a horizon. Indeed, Shaikh's interpretation is dynamic. Thus, it can still be fixed and changed to invite new perspectives.

Abstract

The image changing of Pati from a religious city to a pub culture city has ensued for fifteen years. Thus, the efforts of restoring the condition will not be easy. Previously, the pubs were used as family pubs. However, nowadays, the number of the pubs has increased. Violence was often used by some religious organizations to solve the problem. Nevertheless, this effort did not give any significant effects. In this article, the religiosity of pub culture is formulized. The result of this study is expected to be one of the concrete solutions for restoring the image of Pati.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the religious development of Muslim children through their opinions about religion as well as their experience. It is intended to explore their understanding of some religious concepts and the factors influencing their understanding. The main participants of this study are six children in one of the religious private modernist schools in Yogyakarta from the first until the sixth grades (their ages are around 7-12 year old). The researcher expects that the children religious concept develops in accordance with the cognitive development theory. Moreover, since all participants are Muslim, it is expected that there is a different nuance from the previous research which particularly discusses the concept of God. If social environment takes an account of children religious concept, the researcher expects to find out which aspect is more dominant: the aspect of family or the aspect of the school. The results showed that the children religious concept grows as something inseparable from the rest of the children development, from concrete to more abstract knowledge, from simple to more complicated view. The social environment, particularly religious instruction at school, plays a central role in the children's religious concept.

Abstract

The increase of people’s prosperity and education creates a change in their view about education and the need towards it. Consequently, their choice of educational institutions becomes more selective. On the other hand, the competition in this field becomes more viable due to the growth of the educational institutions. The management strategy should be evaluated. This paper discusses the interfaces between culture and school, especially those that refer to the branding. The study was carried out on a premise that creating a bond between the school and community is possible by adopting the culture in a formal education environment. This effort is expected to help schools to get a certain position in the community. Therefore, this study attempts to promote a conceptual model of cultural branding in schools and to reveal the reasons why the model becomes an effective marketing strategy in this era. KeywordsBranding, School culture, Positioning, Community bond

Abstract

This article attempts to explain the efforts of Abu Hamid al Ghazali in bringing together two poles; philosophy and taṣawwuf, between reason and revelation, between spiritual and intellectual. This is the widely misunderstood by many researchers; the allegations that al-Ghazali is the estuary of stagnancy of progressive thinking is a hasty and reckless accusation. In this article, the author finds that al Ghazali's philosophical passion has begun since he was very young; much of al Ghazali's work is a testament to this. Then, although shifted to the realm of taṣawwuf, the influence of philosophy is still very subtle in the rhetoric of his writings. The depth of Ghazali's knowledge in Fiqh Shafi'i becomes another proof of the combination of reason and revelation in Ghazali's thoughts coupled with the Ash'ariyya school which he purports as his theological foundation.

Abstract

Soeara Moehammadijah, (later: Suara Muhammadiyah), has continuously become one of the longest living magazines in Indonesia. To date, the beginning of publication of Soeara Moehammadijah was published on 1915 and has progressively scattered information to the present day. Several dissertations have used this magazine for one of its main references. Several books have also examined how Muhammadiyah developed, either from education or da'wah, from this source. However, what is the actual content of this magazine, not many have studied it. This series presents the contents of the Soeara Moehammadijah column 1915 - 1940. This section presents the continuous sections of the rubric 1924 - 1926.
