Abstract

This paper aims to describe the concept of justice in Islam interpreted by Ali Asghar Engineer by using Gadamers philosophical hermeneutics. Gadamers philosophical hermeneutics is ontological rather than methodological and it has been very influential in interpretation world. Engineers work in interpreting the concept of justice in Islam, in the notion of Gadamers philosophical hermeneutics, is affected by his horizon and fusion of horizons. His prejudices into the world lead him to bring about the idea of liberation by doing liberative interpretation. It is hoped that his liberative interpretation will influence Muslims way of thinking and gradually can challenge the structures of modern oppressions so that people will live in justice and peace. Since all Engineers efforts to interpret Quran and hadiths in liberative spirit are initiated by his question into the world, it means that he shows his ability to see what is questionable which is the real power of hermeneutical consciousness. This paper attempts to present the basic concepts of Gadamers philosophical hermeneutics then use them to analyze the interpretation on justice made by Engineer based on his liberative idea.

Abstract

Like all great religions of the world, Christianity is a religion steeped in revelation. It tries to convince its followers that it was through the process of revelation that God made Himself known both in the Old and New Testaments, climaxing in the saving action of Jesus Christ. Although this is the starting point of Christian revelation, it would surprise many to know that it was only in the last five centuries that Christians started debating the issue and nature of revelation. In the present article, we shall critically examine how Catholic Christians started perceiving the notion of revelation from the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) as enshrined in the Constitution Dei Verbum of the Council and the issues that keep Catholics engaged with regard to it with particular focus upon the relation between Scripture and Tradition and the ensuing tensions.

Religion and ideology are two interesting terms to be discussed and researched. Both of the terms were able to give an ideal purpose of life which is desirable by every human being. Both of religion and ideology were able to give comprehensive description about the “ideal-things” which is intended by the human being to look for the happiness of life. Both of religion and ideology have properly arranged the way to achieve the “ideal-condition” even needed serious struggle to realize it. Moreover, both of religion and ideology have also given inner satisfaction and strength to their followers. Religion and ideology can be illustrated as ‘both side of coin’ which is interrelated. Ideology can be as religion because of its power which is able to make available of the “ideal way” (solution) for its followers. As well as ideology, religion is not just spiritual way, but also able to make available “ideal description” and straighten up the dimension of life, socially, politically, and also culturally.

Abstract

Muslim terrorist group is a contrast issue, they are the one who openly opposes the U.S. Oppression, but on another side, they are blamed for being a terrorist. The story started with oppression on Muslim countries everywhere: Afghanistan was invaded by USSR army, then 1991, Iraq also was attacked as a response call from the US to Kuwaiti aid request, then in 2001, Afghanistan was invaded and occupied by the U.S., then the raid over Taliban and all its organization in Pakistan and Afghanistan, the military operation in Iraq, 2003, and daily killing upon Palestinian since 1967 with no ending etc. So, the counter upon oppression rises, but unfortunately those who struggled to defend Muslim territories against U.S. invasion are called as a terrorist. Once upon a time in 2000, Bali was the most destined of tourism but unexpectedly, a big tragedy happened in Indonesia with the bomb explosion in Bali Island and killed 202 people, most of the victims were foreign tourists. The result of investigations pointed to Jemaah Islamiyah as an actor of that incident. The national and International news media posted that Jamaah Islamiyah did a terror on the basis of jihad against America and its allies who invaded a Muslim country, but unfortunately, the victims were civilians who have nonsense affiliated with politics.
