Abstract

The Ujong Blang Beach tourism area in Lhokseumawe City is highly vulnerable to various coastal hazards, including coastal erosion, tidal flooding, storm surges, extreme weather, and potential tsunamis. However, the preparedness capacity of the local community, tourism stakeholders, and visitors has not adequately kept pace with these risks. The low level of disaster literacy, the absence of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for emergency response, limited evacuation routes, inadequate disaster mitigation information, and the suboptimal implementation of a community-based Early Warning System (EWS) constitute the primary challenges that require integrated intervention. This community service program aims to enhance the disaster preparedness capacity of the tourism community through the Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRR) approach, which positions local communities as the primary actors in disaster risk reduction efforts. The program is implemented through disaster education, mitigation training, evacuation drills, the development of evacuation routes, the establishment of community disaster response volunteers, and the strengthening of a simple community-based early warning system tailored to local social conditions. A participatory approach is adopted by involving village authorities, Tourism Awareness Groups (Pokdarwis), micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), community leaders, and other relevant stakeholders to establish sustainable coordination and preparedness mechanisms. The expected outcomes include improved knowledge, skills, and awareness of disaster preparedness among community members, the availability of disaster mitigation facilities and evacuation routes, the establishment of an effective risk communication mechanism, and increased visitor awareness of safety measures. The implementation of CBDRR and a community-based EWS is expected to transform Ujong Blang into a safe, resilient, adaptive, and sustainable coastal tourism destination while strengthening collaboration among higher education institutions, government agencies, and local communities in supporting disaster risk reduction.

Abstract

Increasing competition among private schools requires effective marketing communication to strengthen institutional brand awareness. This community service program aimed to assist SMA Perjuangan Terpadu Depok in developing marketing communication based on FAST values (Siddiq, Amanah, Fathanah, and Tabligh) through the production of a Sharia advertising video. A participatory mentoring approach was implemented through four stages: needs assessment, communication strategy development, advertising production, and evaluation. The program resulted in a FAST based marketing communication mentoring model that integrated professional advertising practices with Islamic values. In addition to producing a Sharia advertising video, the program enhanced the school's understanding of communication planning, creative brief development, media planning, and digital promotion. Participants expressed positive responses and intended to use the video as a branding medium. The mentoring model offers a practical reference for Islamic educational institutions in developing ethical and sustainable marketing communication.

Abstract

The rapid development of water tourism at Menye Beach Pier, Lake Lut Tawar, Takengon, has not been fully matched by optimal public communication and safety protocols. This community service program, conducted by the Department of Communication Science at Universitas Malikussaleh on June 26, 2026, aimed to strengthen the water tourism communication capacity of local tourism awareness groups (Pokdarwis) and pier operators. Employing a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, the program progressed through four stages: diagnosis, planning, action, and evaluation. Interventions focused on hospitality communication training, safety briefing simulations, the installation of intuitive visual safety signage, and the development of local culture-based storytelling narratives. The results demonstrated a significant enhancement in operators' interpersonal skills, particularly in convincingly delivering safety protocols to visitors. Furthermore, the newly installed visual media improved safety awareness, while cultural storytelling added value to the tourist experience. The program concluded with the handover of a Standard Operating Guideline for pier communication to ensure long-term sustainability. This initiative successfully fostered a safer, more hospitable, and professional water tourism environment in Central Aceh.

Abstract

According to Statistics Indonesia (BPS), women constituted 50.3% of the total population of Lhokseumawe City in 2025. Despite this demographic majority, their participation in political decision-making remains limited. This situation is attributed to entrenched patriarchal norms, inadequate leadership capacity, limited access to political education, and restricted opportunities to participate in political and governmental institutions. Although Indonesian electoral regulations require political parties to nominate at least 30% women as legislative candidates, the 2024 local legislative election resulted in only 7 of the 25 seats (28%) in the Lhokseumawe Regional House of Representatives (DPRK) being occupied by women, indicating that substantive political representation has yet to reach the expected level. Women's representation in strategic positions within the local government is also limited, with only one female head of a regional government agency serving in 2026. This community empowerment program aimed to strengthen women's political literacy, leadership capacity, advocacy skills, and participation in local political decision-making. The program employed participatory approaches, including Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), political education workshops, leadership mentoring, and policy decision-making simulations. The findings indicate significant improvements in participants' political knowledge, communication and advocacy skills, understanding of public policy formulation, and confidence in engaging in political decision-making forums. The program demonstrates that participatory capacity-building effectively enhances women's political participation and leadership. Sustained mentoring and cross-sector collaboration among local government, universities, political parties, women's organisations, and civil society are recommended to promote more inclusive and gender-responsive political governance in Lhokseumawe City.

Abstract

Community Service activities for Cesy Lia banana chip MSMEs are carried out through the Development of an Innovative Banana Slicing Machine. Cesy banana chip MSMEs have high economic potential due to abundant raw materials, relatively simple production technology, and stable market demand. However, the "Celsy Lia" Household Industry faces problems in the production aspect, especially in the process of slicing raw bananas which is still done manually using a simple machine that is less efficient. This condition has an impact on low production capacity, inconsistency of slice thickness, high labor costs, and decreased product quality. Partner problems in the management aspect, there are no operational standards for better business sustainability and financial management that is not well organized so that partners cannot clearly know the shortcomings and advantages of the business, so that they can create strategies to increase revenue. The service team provides solutions in the form of Appropriate Technology Tools in the form of innovative banana slice machines in order to increase revenue and provide an understanding of structured management management for business sustainability.

Abstract

This Community Service Program (CSP) aims to strengthen pre-service teachers’ competence in implementing local wisdom-based learning at Madrasah. The program responds to the gap between pre-service teachers’ knowledge of Acehnese local wisdom and their ability to transform cultural values into contextual and meaningful learning experiences. A participatory and experiential learning approach was employed through five stages: needs assessment, competency strengthening, instructional design, microteaching, and supervised classroom practice, followed by reflection and mentoring. Program activities focused on strengthening local wisdom literacy, pedagogical content knowledge, instructional design, teaching practice, and reflective competence. Participants were trained to identify educational values embedded in local wisdom, including Hadih Maja, meuseuraya, respect for parents and teachers, and traditions of deliberation, and integrate these values into learning objectives, materials, activities, methods, and assessment. Program effectiveness was evaluated through pre-test and post-test comparisons, teaching-performance observation, assessment of instructional products, and participant reflection. The expected outcomes include improved pedagogical competence, practical instructional skills, and the production of contextual learning materials. The program also promotes a sustainable model through a local wisdom-based learning resource bank and community of practice. The program seeks to develop culturally responsive pre-service teachers capable of transforming local wisdom into authentic and meaningful learning experiences.

Abstract

Majelis Sholawat Nariyah 4444 Nurul Jalil in Jambesari Village, Bondowoso Regency, plays a strategic role in strengthening socio-religious values and collecting community social funds. However, the management of these social funds is still carried out in a simple, manual, and unstructured manner, making it susceptible to commingling funds and lacking transparency. This community service activity aims to enhance the management's understanding and skills in managing social funds transparently, accountably, and sustainably based on ta’awuniyah values while supporting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The execution method utilized a community empowerment approach consisting of problem identification, formulation of the Ta'awuniyah Module, social fund management training, practical assistance in financial recording, and evaluation. The results showed an increase in the management's capacity to understand the importance of segregating three types of funds (member savings, assembly cash, and community social funds) and implementing SOPs for fund collection and distribution. Furthermore, the creation of the Ta'awuniyah Module along with simple cash book formats and fund position reports serves as a practical instrument to boost pilgrims' trust. Strengthening social fund governance acts as a foundational step toward encouraging the assembly's economic independence and pioneering the establishment of a cooperative-based Islamic Financial Institution/BMT in the future.
