Abstract

In its long journey, archeology as a science has long since left artifact-oriented studies (including features and ecofacts) oriented. The three of them are no longer seen as individual data that must be studied individually, but are seen as part of the overall archaeological data in a certain spatial scale. This does not mean that artifacts, features, ecofacts, no longer need to be studied individually, but this study is the beginning of the totality of archaeological research. Furthermore, it is developed, by taking into account the matrix, location and context, it is also necessary to pay attention to environmental and spatial conditions at a certain scale: from micro to regional, or more broadly.

Abstract

In line with the development of Indonesian archaeological research, the direction of research that was initially focused only on site studies, needs to be expanded towards regional or regional-scale studies. Area-scale studies in addition to being able to reconstruct past lives, can also reveal cultural changes. Thus the results of area-scale research can reveal two archaeological paradigms

Abstract

During his involvement in the preparation of the 1992 Boko Regional Tourism Development Foundation Plan and the 1994/1995 Ratu Boko Area Development Feasibility Study, the author has collected and analyzed various historical-archaeological data on the Ratu Boko site. In this short paper, it is impossible to describe everything that is described in the two activity reports. Therefore, what will be presented is limited to a summary of the results of the analysis and its interpretation.

Abstract

The term Zonal patterns used in this paper refers to the notion of patterns shown by the distribution of sites from a spatial aspect. In this sense, the term zonal patterns is also used in the same sense as the term spatial patterns. By distribution, site locations in space show certain patterns, which are assumed to be related to a subsistence strategy. This means that the choice of the location of a site is related to efforts to minimize the use of energy and time in exploiting and distributing sources of subsistence. Because these sites represent human activities, the location where they exist can provide an overview of the natural environment and its technology. In some cases, the location of sites also reflects site types.

Abstract

Although archaeological studies study the human past based on the objects left behind, in its implementation, archaeological studies are not sufficient to only orientate toward artifacts. Human artifacts from the past cannot be separated from the spatial context, both on a micro and macro scale.

Abstract

This paper is written to provide material for reflections on the prehistoric periodization system in Indonesia. Some of the main questions that become material for reflection are: whether the basis used to create the periodization system is in accordance with the objectives to be achieved; whether the periodization system is able to provide alternative solutions to various prehistoric phenomena in Indonesia; whether the periodization system can identify the process of cultural change; and finally, whether the current periodization system is still relevant with the rapid development of archaeological methods and theories. These kinds of questions are urgent for further study

Abstract

It should be acknowledged that the validity and reliability of the archaeological remains on the surface of the Trowulan Site as systematic survey research data is still in doubt, because the taphonomic process that has taken place in the last few decades, mainly due to wild and negative human activity at this site, has been going on intensively in a relatively long period of time. However, such research should still be held at the Trowulan Site to meet the standard of spatial research procedures (spatial archeology). The results of this study will establish empirically the level of confidence of the surface data, and possibly those under the soil of the Trowulan Site.

Abstract

The geographic characteristic that the author is primarily concerned with is about changes in the landscape and, accordingly, about the movement of the human population (migration) in this area from time to time, which the author limits to the period of the 'colonisatie' program organized by the Dutch East Indies government in Early 20th century AD The definition of Lampung region in the context of its breadth, the author limits it in this paper, is identical to the definition of the administrative area of the Province of DT. I Lampung. However, the author does not intend to focus specifically on aspects relating to administrative subjects of this area.

Abstract

The role of geology in the study of archeology is very important, where it can describe problems related to the state of the natural environment, the acquisition of raw material sources, rock elements as a constituent of an ancient building and other ancient environments. Based on the foregoing, this paper will describe in addition to the geological conditions, as well as the extent to which the use and location of rock extraction as raw material for archaeological data in the Kingdoms of Gowa and Tallo.
