Abstract

The Community Service Program (PkM) highlighted the limited understanding of the impact of daily habits—such as improper waste disposal—underscoring the need for educational media that is simple, appealing, and easily accessible. This program aimed to: (1) improve environmental literacy through visual educational media, (2) encourage environmentally friendly behavior among students and school members, and (3) develop educational signboards as an innovative model of environmental learning media. The implementation included site surveys, administrative preparation, media production, socialization activities, communal clean-up, installation of educational signboards, and final report preparation. The results showed that the signboards effectively increased students’ understanding of the harmful effects of non-degradable waste and the importance of proper environmental management. Supporting activities such as the Learning House (RuBel), communal work, and administrative assistance also contributed positively to the school environment. Overall, the program successfully achieved its objectives and provided a tangible contribution to improving environmental literacy and eco-friendly behavior. It is hoped that this PkM initiative can be sustained and serve as a model for environmental education in other schools.

Abstract

The PkM activities conducted by the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education in Kuta Jurung Village aim to address real issues faced by the community, particularly in the areas of literacy, environmental cleanliness, physical health, and the utilization of digital learning media. This program was designed with several core activities, including tutoring for students, communal clean-up efforts (gotong royong), the implementation of posyandu (integrated health services) as a form of public health education, and training in the use of digital media. The methods used involved direct observation, followed by preparation, implementation, and reporting stages. The program was carried out at the village office and student post from January to February 2025. The results showed an increase in student learning motivation and academic performance through tutoring. Gotong-royong helped create a cleaner environment and strengthened community social ties. The posyandu played a vital role in raising awareness of maternal and child health, as well as in supporting malnutrition prevention and child growth monitoring. The production and distribution of homemade dish soap (Sunlight), along with hygiene education, raised awareness of the importance of household sanitation.  The success of this program is expected to serve as a model for similar initiatives in other regions.

Abstract

The digitalization of reporting systems is essential for ensuring transparency in rural governance; however, data validity remains a persistent challenge in manual reporting practices. This community service program aimed to transform the Babinsa reporting system in Bandar Dolok Village from conventional documentation into a forensic discourse–based digital reporting system. The program employed a Community-Based Action Research (CBAR) approach over three months, resulting in the implementation of the Bandar Dolok Smart-Monitoring application equipped with metadata encryption, geotagging, and automated timestamps. The implementation significantly improved data integrity, with spatial accuracy increasing by 95% and narrative objectivity improving by 91%. Reporting practices shifted from subjective descriptions to verifiable digital evidence with audit value. Beyond accelerating information flow, the system enhances transparency and accountability in village development monitoring. The program concludes that forensic-based digitalization can establish a transparent, accountable, and tamper-resistant development monitoring system.

Abstract

Abstract

Waste is divided into two types: organic and non-organic waste. Organic waste is biodegradable and comes from living organisms, such as food scraps, dry leaves, and vegetables. Meanwhile, non-organic waste is difficult to decompose and originates from non-biological materials such as plastic, glass, metal, and paper. The socialization activity on the segregation of organic and non-organic waste was carried out at SDN Impres 034796 Silalahi I Village, Silahisabungan District, Dairi Regency, as a form of community service. This activity aimed to improve students’ knowledge and awareness of the importance of waste segregation to maintain environmental sustainability. The methods used included material presentation, interactive question-and-answer sessions, and watching educational videos about organic and non-organic waste. The results showed that before the socialization, students were not able to distinguish between organic and non-organic waste and still disposed of waste in a single bin. After receiving the material and practical demonstration, students demonstrated improved understanding, as reflected in their ability to identify biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. Students enthusiasm and active participation during the activity became indicators of the program’s success.
